has anyone tried an "afternoon break" in a resort lobby???

Who does it harm? No one. But is that how we measure what we should and shouldn't do? Would people think it is ok for me to cut my toe nails in the lobby? Do calisthenics? Being able to do something does not equal something that you should do.

EXACTLY!

We've found the best place to take a break is on one of the beaches. Just throw a couple lightweight towels, a lightweight blanket, whatever in your back pack or stroller & go chill out on the beach for an hour or two!

Just had a thought - we've never done this but if you're not visiting during a time of year(summer lol) when it's sweltering, why not just go & relax in your car? Pack some snacks & drinks in a cooler for lunch, take a little nap - why not???

You should actually do calisthenics and clip your toe nails simulatenously. Do a side bender to the right, clip your right toe nail. Then back over to the left and clip. Put on a little show for all the free loaders in the lobby, lol.

We resort hop & break at other resorts all the time. We've monorailed around the the Grand/Poly/Contemporary and sat in the lobby chairs & couches for awhile. Usually midafternoon and it's not. Never slept. It's rather lovely for a nice break.

We love visiting resorts. Last fall, I was at the Contemporary for a conference and my wife joined me. We spent an entire day before the conference just visiting resorts. We were trying to figure out where we wanted to stay this year. We ended up visiting all these in one day:

  1. Art of Animation (LOVED the theming, great food court)
  2. All Star Movies (felt old and dated)
  3. Caribbean Beach Resort (way too spread out)
  4. Coronado Springs (way too spread out)
  5. Port Orleans French Quarter (LOVED it but doesn't hold our family of 5 easily. :( )
  6. Swan (Very nice)
  7. Dolphin (Very nice)
  8. Boardwalk (Love the location)

We had already visited all the other Disney resorts, these were the new ones we wanted to get a feel for.

Never were we frowned upon for being there, and we could have stayed at any of them as long as we liked.

Sorry, :offtopic:

So, as a fellow family-of-fiver, where did you decide to stay? My kids finally all count as "full people" (no one small enough for a crib, air mattress or squeezing more in bed). We used to travel with an extra adult and get 2 rooms for 6 people, but starting from scratch on considering where we'll be comfortable with 5.

Spent a couple hours in the AK Jambo lobby one day. There is a little room over by the DVC kiosk that has artifacts and do-dads to look at. They also have comfy chairs/sofas and you can smell the food cooking from down below.

While I don't think anyone laying on a couch is ok, I can't see the difference between sitting in a chair and looking at your iPhone, and sitting in the same chair with your eyes closed. You're taking up the same amount of space.

For me the sticking point is that if I am awake, I am conscious of (and hopefully considerate toward) other people in my immediate vicinity. If someone *needs* that chair, I can hop up. I know I'm not snoring, I know my legs haven't sprawled out in a way that could impede others. I know some poor housekeeper isn't trying to clean up and having to work around my bag. That would be my reason as an adult for not snoozing in a lobby.

Port Orleans Riverside Alligator Bayou rooms. They hold five legitimately with the "pseudo murphy" bed that folds down from the wall. The other two beds are queens.

This will be our third time staying in those rooms. We LOVE POR, but I was trying to make this trip a little different. That's why we visited all those resorts last fall. POFQ looked like it was going to be an awesome option because my MIL and FIL planned to go with, and one of our kids could go in their room. I actually had POFQ booked with a bounceback free dining offer for this September. They backed out though, and the best by far financially for our family of five is Port Orleans Riverside (with free dining offer too). With a moderate resort you get the free regular dining plan (not the free QS plan at a value resort, which you then need to pay to upgrade to the regular dining plan), and we all fit on one room so that saves a lot.

I couldn't justify the cost increase to get two rooms anywhere else.

On my first trip to WDW back in the stone age, we did a bit of a tour of the monorail resort lobbies. Sat for a little bit, but that was it. Now, we are DVC members and stay mostly at BLT, sometimes BCV and recently BWV; stayed at VWL a while back. If we need a break we go back to our resort.

I don't see an issue with people taking a break at any of these resorts. If EVERYONE started doing it I could imagine it could become a problem, but I haven't noticed any issue with this in our 10+ years of WDW trips.

FWIW, I don't think ANYONE should be napping on a couch or changing in any hotel lobby -- whether they're staying at the resort or just taking a break. Pretty sure planned naps are not the reason hotels have those chairs/sofas there. Yikes. But that's just me...

Walking all the way to the front of the MK and taking the monorail is a time killer. My favorite place to take a long relaxing break is in the rocking chairs on Tom Sawyer Island. You can enjoy time in a nice shady spot and relax and refresh. Tom Sawyer Island is very quiet and it is fun to watch liberty square.

This reminds me exactly of the homeless people who invade my city's downtown library in the winter. They make the plan to go there and sleep during the day. Are they asked to leave? No. It is a public space.

They're homeless. Where would you like them to go?

Hi o sage DISers!

Wondering if anyone has tried an "afternoon break" in one of the monorail resorts (or WL) lobbies during a looong day at MK?

We are off-site and it's not practical for us to leave the bubble and try to get back.

Trying for RD (me, DH, DD8.5) but would also like to catch the evening shows. Is catching a drink/snack/snooze on one of those comfy-looking couches do-able or frowned upon? Thanks for the input!
We usually aren't tired till dinner time. And then if we're at the MK we go over to the Poly -- sometimes we do table service there at Ohana or Kona. Or just go to the snack bar. We relax in their lobby and then move and sit out by the pool or beach. After that we go back and hit the MK for the evening. // If I need a very short power nap in park, I take a quick snooze on the Carousel of Progress.

Hall of Presidents is an excellent spot as well.

I honestly can't imagine anyone wanting to take an afternoon nap in most of the hotel lobby's at DW. We just spent four nights at the BC, and that lobby was hopping all the time. It was the opposite of relaxing.

I wouldn't have a problem with grabbing a drink from the bar or gift shop and sitting on a couch or chair in the lobby to relax for a minute. But I certainly wouldn't lay down on the couch or floor or camp out there for longer than 30 minutes.

An alternative idea if it's not too hot might be to find a quiet pool and relax on the loungers. You wouldn't be permitted to go in the pool, of course, but I don't see the harm in sitting in the chairs, especially if you buy a drink or snack there.

disney does encourage guests to explore other resorts. shop, eat, etc. after all, it might entice you to stay there next trip!
and often there is space on the beaches.

but I have to take issue with any guests using the loungers by any pool at the deluxe resorts when they aren't staying there. it isn't just use of the actual pool.. loungers can be hard to come by.

Maybe during the day?? We're talking dinner time, and chairs are available all over - not hard to come by at all - everyone seems to still be at the parks or moved on after being outside. There are tons of outside tables and chairs outside on the extensive grounds of the POLY.
