Has anyone here been upgraded on DCL?

Not that I have ever heard of. I haven't heard of the upgrading with cash either, though.

I have seen people get upgraded that paid with points. Upgrades do not happen often regardless of how you paid. Never book a room with the hope of getting an upgrade, you will be disappointed.

We were upgraded a few years ago from an inside stateroom to an outside deluxe stateroom when cruising entirely on points. It was a nice surprise. We did arrive at the check in terminal very early- not b/c we were trying to upgrade but simply because our flight got in so early. When we cruised a year and a half ago with points and cash, we were not upgraded. This time we did have two separate rooms under our reservation since we had a larger party. I think it's just a matter of the luck of the draw.

Cruising on cash in 2000, on the Magic, we got a pretty significant upgrade, from an oceanview cabin(don't recall what category) to a veranda cabin. The cabin number was noted on our original ressies - several months out - and when I checked it with the deck plans, I saw we were in luck. I sure didn't bring it to anyone's attention!

We were upgraded in 2002 from a Navigator's balcony to a full balcony (sorry, don't remember categories). It was a nice surprise - especially since we were celebrating our 25th anniversary.

We were on cash, not points. In fact, we joined DVC at the end of that trip ;-)

My hairdresser was upgraded last May, from a balcony cabin to a suite (cash reserv). She thinks she got it because they are a family of 5. I say she was just DARN lucky!

We used points on our last cruise and were upgraded from a Cat. 6 to a cat 4. It was only the 2 of us, but we really enjoyed the extra space. We had booked our trip way back in April and we didnt cruise until Feb.
They called me on Wed and the cruise left on Sat.

Not to say this is for you, but I would honestly have been a bit disappointed by that. We book the Nav's because we like them more then the regular ones, not because they charge less for them. They are more...cozy, especially if something especially romantic is involved.

Yes, MarkRG, I see your point ;-) Sadly, it was too cold during our trip to enjoy any balcony!!! We would go outside, look at the water, shiver, and get back in ;-) That's the downside to traveling off season.

Plus, who can get too romantic when their trying to ignore all the rolling around - from the sea, not anything more interesting ;-)

Last October 2003, we paid cash for a "secret Porthole room", so we paid Cat 10, and we were upgraded to a balcony - I believe it was a Category 6. Hate to say it but the balcony was wasted on us. Spent a total of 10 minutes on it. Too busy. I booked the cruise about 15 months out.
