Has anyone had something go missing since daily room checks began?

We had bee issues over a five day period so different people were in our room. Eventually we were moved across the hall and only realized today as we were packing to leave that my daughter’s new Levi’s were missing. We were comped but unfortunately, could not replace the same ones we bought in Canada at the Levi store in a Disney Springs. Apparently they are a very hot item in Orlando and resold. Lesson learned. Next time we will lock things in our suitcase. They were a birthday gift and her first pair of Levi’s. Never had anything go missing before.

I think it would help people give you any info or similar experiences if you mentioned where you stayed.

Disney did give us the replacement value which was awesome as they were new, but my daughter was sad that the kind she had wasn’t available there. Interesting that the clerk in the store wasn’t surprised they were targeted. Who would have thought. This certainly was an strange trip however and a comedy of errors and other things. My daughter wore them out as we are catching the DME soon for the airport. We had just sat down on the bus from Disney Springs when she realized the clerk had forgotten to remove the security tag. Weird it hadn’t set the alarm off. The driver was very accommodating and went back around to let us off. It was a mad dash back to the store and then the bus. Sad to leave but a very weird trip. The first time we have ever really had any issues. I must say though that Disney did try hard to help and that made things less terrible than they might have been.

This sounds a little far-fetched. Not saying it didn't happen, but it just seems odd. Are you trying to say that mousekeeping stole the jeans? They just weren't left in the room were they? It's real easy to push the covers around and forget something, especially if they moved you in a hurry.

Things do go missing in hotels. My wife left her leather jacket in the closet at Cedar Point on closing weekend...so no one was in the room after us. We left in the morning and called in the afternoon and they said it was not in the room.
No compensation.
I know that was Cedar Point and not Disney but staff is staff regardless of where.

Why does everyone think that there needs to be compensation? If it's proven it was stolen by the staff, yes, compensation should be given, also you shouldn't know anything because it becomes a police matter at that point (or it should be). Forgetting it in the room isn't something worth compensating.

Do dishonest people exist in prime tourist areas? You bet they do and that'll never change.

There was a thread some time ago about things that guests FOUND in their rooms in the dressers and such. Some of the stuff was kinda odd and gross, to the point that it would make you WANT to keep your clothes in your suitcase and not put them in the dressers.

I never asked for compensation, but it did suck that a housekeeper stole it. We were the last guests for the season and it was a $200+ item.
It comes down to honesty and good customer service. I’ve heard of plenty of hotels shipping forgotton items back to customers. I mean we are all human and make mistakes.

Our clothes always stay in our suitcases and we’ve never had anything go missing during a stay anywhere, but we also don’t leave anything valuable in the room.

Did the CP resort tell you that it was the housekeeper staff that stole your wifes jacket? Because if they did not then you can't just presume that it was.
Do you know how easy it is especially at places like that for someone to be waiting for you to open the door and leave and then can walk right in before the door shuts again?

My OCD is real when I leave hotel rooms. Always wait for the door to close and always turn/pull on the handle to make sure it’s locked.

In the end it was our mistake for missing it during our sweep of the room before check out. It was a new Michael Koors? brand jacket. You could probably turn that real quick on eBay.

You guys are a tough crowd. I’m not looking for sympathy but it is what it is. It didn’t grow legs someone took it, or they never even looked.

I always reserve judgement on the stories about when children/teens items turning up missing and the assumption that the item must have been stolen. IME the kids/teens have a tendency to become distracted and misplace even valuable to them items.
OP previously reported that she was moved due to bees being on her balcony and that the room was being taken out of service for awhile to eradicate the bees.
OP received compensation for that inconvenience and posted wondering whether she should have gotten more.
Everyone misplaces/forgets/loses things, especially kids/teenagers and adults after a couple of alcoholic drinks and people in strange places for vacations and people not following their normal routine because they are on vacation.
Frankly it’s more likely that someone has misplaced or forgotten to pack something than an employee of Disney stole it. Does employee theft happen? Sure, but I’d bet a quick visit to lost and found at WDW would reveal just how many items people carelessly leave/misplace.
I’m surprised the missing Levi’s can’t be replaced via Amazon or eBay - I thought they had it all.

While it's possible housekeeping stole them, I think it's more likely that a passerby slipped into the room while housekeeping had the door open.

We have no clue what happened. Actually the clerk at the Levis store told us they are in demand in Orlando and often resold but I am not saying this is what happened. My daughter only brought a single pair of jeans and a small suitcase. They never left the room after the first day. We did change rooms late at night and while we were careful to check around, they may have been left. However no one has been in the room since and staff we went all through the room today and they were not in the lost and found or with housekeeping. It was a studio so not many places for things to go and they were new and simply disappeared. End of story. And first time for us. We didn’t have housekeeping, only trash takeout each day. My daughter is 13 and with me at all times. These were her first expensive jeans and a birthday gift. There are different types. Anyway, she wore them from Canada and then wore shorts the rest of the trip. They were not misplaced which makes this just weird. Disney made it all good but we will lock some things up in the future. I do believe most people are honest.

It's great to have the mindset that most people are honest. However, everyday on vacation, our luggage is locked. We get out what we need and lock it up before we exit for the day. I like to think that there's more good people than bad ones, but, I don't put things to chance. We all know your room is "locked" when you leave, but there's obviously a good amount of time that your room can be "unlocked" and anyone could go in or out.

OP, if Levi's theft and resale was that big of a market in Orlando, I'm sure there would've been something here about it.

I'm honestly surprised at the items people do take on vacation that are worth such a high sentimental or monetary value. Yes, some people need to be "on call" for work 24/7, so I understand having to carry a laptop or company cell phone for those instances. Outside of that however, why would anyone take things precious to them and trust that once you leave your room, it'll be there when you return?

I agree and we lock everything up most of the time. I seriously doubt that most things are pre-planned and as I said we have no clue where they went. We have stayed at AKL many times and never had a single issue. I don’t think it is a big problem. Disney did replace them and apologized for the room issues etc we had. It was such a bizarre week with so many things going on, I wouldn’t accuse anyone of anything. Just find it strange that this is the first dvc trip where staff did come in every day however.

Which resort had the bee issue? AKV?

What are these “daily checks” you speak of? I was under the impression they were supposed to take the trash daily, but that hasn’t happened in my room, other than trash and towel day.
