Has anyone had bad experience renting points?

We are DVC owners, but would like to rent some additional points. We have never done this before. Has anyone had a bad experience renting points....either rentor or rentee? If so, can you share details of what happened.

I rented points five or six times and had a great experience with each person I rented to. My only issue was with the people who would ask you to check on availability then you would never hear from them again. Not even a "thanks but no thanks". It would tie up your points for a day or so as you were waiting for someone to get back to you. Eventually I learned to simply say first come first served, regardless of what order someone would inquire.

I had a great experience so far renting points, and also receiving transferred points. I've been fortunate.

I think that it's a far easier transaction if you have regular points (that haven't been banked or borrowed or transfered in) that can be transfered to another DVC member's account. It's done with one ph. call and a follow up fax/email to member services authorizing a transfer. Plus, there is usually a payment required within a set amount of time for payment. If you have a paypal account, it's done right away, if not, a cashier's check or money order is a great option with certified delivery.

My only problem had to do with someone who couldn't make a trip due to bed rest. I was willing to find another family who could take the exact same trip with same days and resort booked. I also offered a 90% refund since it ended up working out a week before the arrival date!! That is definitely an exception. In the future, I wouldn't be able to do that. I just wanted to be helpful and generous. Anyway, I need more points...I just find more reasons to take trips to WDW.

Since adding on Magical Express, that has been a little bit of an issue since I have had to follow-up on luggage tags being sent etc...If you do end up renting points, please make sure the renter is aware of DVC rules. It's helpful to both them and other DVC members.

Cinderpals - If I am understanding the transfer correctly, we want to rent someone else's points. So they transfer the number of points that we are renting to our account? And we pay them directly through paypal? Do we pay before or after the points are transferred?
 
I've met some super nice people renting/transferring points. The only problems I've encountered have not been with members but trying to coordinate banked or borrowed points and different use years.
 
Oh! I just meant if you were to become DVC members and you wanted/needed to rent points out, that you may want to transfer them to another DVC member.

It's nice if you can have points transfered into your account from another DVC member. Then you have control over your reservation, if you need to make changes to the dates, you're free to change them like you would your other regular points.

I paid for any transfered points into my account after I confirmed that the transfer took place through member services.
