Has anyone ever vacationed in Mrytle Beach, S.C.?

DONT go to Ocean Dunes. The room was a dump. Stuff broken, wallpaper coming off the wall. Ad was very deceptive. Very expensive for the room we got. Have had a good experience at The Boardwalk tho.

We have vacationed in Myrtle beach every year for the last 7 years. We have stayed at the Crown Reef every year, but it seems to be going downhill a little more every time we go back. The pool is always clean and beautiful, but there are always at least one or two hot tubs that are broken or dirty. The last two times we were there only one elevator worked in each building. (There are 3 towers, each with two elevators and over 10 floors so you know we waited a long time for the elevators!) The rooms are usually pretty clean but worn looking. The Treasure Chest restaurant on the Lobby floor is an excellent value for families. I think for about $2.00 each you get eggs, bacon or sausage and toast and grits at breakfast. At lunch for the same price you get 2 hot dogs or 2 grilled cheese (or one of each) a drink and a small ice cream. Coffee is $.05 in the free travel mug you receive when you check in. They also have a great kids program where the kids can make crafts, play games, or hunt for seashells with the college age program directors. Some activities have a small fee. Myrtle Beach is our favorite place to go as a family and we sure will miss going this year.

If your are looking for a great restaurant go to Murrell's Inlet and eat at Flo's Place. It is one of those little hole in the wall places, but if you love seafood it is the best place to eat. The kids will get Mardi Gras beads and can have chocolate gators for dessert.

Enjoy!

Our family has stayed at several places at Myrtle Beach I agree with Compass Cove or Crown Reef with Crown Reef being our favorite, very nice lazy river, we all received complimentary coffee mugs and Damons a really great restaurant is right next to it, we enjoyed the outdoor dining there, as it was pretty crowded to eat indoors. Good Luck!!:D

We have been going to MB for about 15 years. We stay on an Island called Sunset Beach. It is actually located in North Carolina and is about 25 minutes from Barefoot Landing area.

It is an awesome place to stay. We usually rent a 4 bedroom condo & take othe family members or friends with us. The beach is not crowded & is very clean.

Here is a website in case anyone is interested:

We go to Cherry Grove (Far North part of Mytle Beach) several times a year. My aunt has a condo there. I would look into a rental agency & look for a condo. It's easy to spend $100+ for a hotel room in that area, however you could rent a 2 br condo for $90-150. Spending a week @ Myrtle Beach can get expensive if you go out to eat every meal.

There is lots to do there as far as shopping (outlets), golf, rides (nothing comparible to WDW though), there is Alligator Adventure, Broadway @ the Beach and Barefoot Landing (shopping & dining) kinda on the lines of Downtown Disney (without all the Disney merchandise).

There is a little hole in the wall hamburger place on HWY 17 called Hamburger Joe's - we love it. All four of us can eat under $25 incl. tip & Long Island Iced Tea for dh. This is near Barefoot Landing, if you go, don't confuse it with Joe's Bar & Grill right next door - average is about $20-25 per person there. Everybody around here knows about Hamburger Joe's & we ALWAYS see people from home when we go.

There is lots to do in Myrtle Beach, you will NEVER be bored there.

Great thread. We're going to Myrtle Beach in 2005. Are there any really good Irish Pubs in the area? Thanks to everyone for the help.
