Has anyone ever driven down to Disney??

We have driven down all of our trips but one..We love to drive and we are driving around 16 hours from Middle of Indiana..

My kids are teenagers now but our traveling style hasn't changed much except the kids now help pack the car & have more of an opinion. They have traveled since they were infants so they still do that well. We have always had a DVD player in the car. We now have the kind that has 2 screens & fits on the back of the head rests. We can use the speakers or headphones. We also have 2 of the portable DVD players so if they don't agree on a movie, they have a choice. We take travel games, Ipods ,plus PSP's & Game Boys with lots of games. We take a "snack bag" which is a large tote bag with snacks that are easy to eat on the road & don't melt. I also pack a cooler with bottles of water & lots of drinks with caffeine. We take ear plugs, pillows & blankets so the passengers can sleep in quiet if they want. The movies seem to helkp the driver stay awake too. The kids love the drive, but of course they don't have to actually drive but it has become part of the vacation.

We drive from Columbia, SC. There is literally no way to shorten the trip by fling for us. Our local airport does not have any strait shots and if we fly out of Charlotte which has a strait shot it takes an hour to get to Charlotte. Add in the time to get to the airport, wait for security and then flight time, wait for baggage etc. It takes us less time to get there by driving.

We have driven every year since 2002..it is cheaper even renting a car for 10 days. We drive from Long Island and stay in Jacksonville for the night and wake up to a 2 hr ride to the world...

I live in MD. I have never drove and will never do it. But my motto is anything over 4 hours and I fly.

I did do the Auto Train for my May trip since I was there for so long. I really liked that. One Tylenol PM at 9 and sleepy time for me. I give kudos to those brave driving souls. I would be driving by myself but I still would not do it.

We will be driving down in may from ohio we will be driving down with 3 kids 1,3,5 It's all my hubby's idea

What time would you arrive at Disney? We were thinking 3pm rather than 3am and drive straight though (3 of us sharing drive time).

We have driven straight through, I think it took us 18 hours. The only problem we had was that even though we slept in the car, it was a restful sleep so ~7:00 pm the night we arrived, dh & I definitely started to poop out.

Now we go until exit 1 on the Georgia/Florida line, it's called Kingslands. The next day we leave early and we only have about an additional 3 hours.

If you are in the New Yorki City area look into the AutoTrain.

You would leave home in the morning and have to arrive at Lorton, VA (two exits South of the Capital Beltway) by not much later than 2:30 pm (they accept arrivals up to 3:00 only). By 9:30 the next morning (and 855 miles later) you and your car are at Sanford, FL, about an hour's drive to WDW.

Same timetable on the way home.

nd you can pack your car to the gills; just be aware that anything in the car cannot be retrieved from the time you drop off the car until it is off the train.

We have always driven or taken the auto train from the DC area - I love the auto train (have roundtrip reservations for this coming January) but the cost if you get a room is not very competitive - however, for my daughter and I to get down to FL in the middle of winter I'm much happier on the train - basically get on and don't worry about car problems or weather. If we drive (15 hours) we usually stop on the way down in Santee, SC.
