Has Anyone Ever Bought A Puppy From An Online Breeder?

Costs a whopping $5.00 to register your litter :lmao:

And you can get a nice little paper with your dog's "registered" name... all for $20!

Their list of "accepted" breeds reads like the internet jokes that went around a few years ago of wacky names when you put two breeds together. Now they are trying to make it legitimate.

I want a ****-A-Mo. :rotfl2:

Oops - you can't even put it on the DIS :lmao:

Cocker Spaniel x American Eskimo

Hybrid association??? :lmao: Hybrid is just a nice way of saying mutt.

Oh, but the Hybrid Association, and those scamming people for big bucks for mutts claim that purposefully breeding a mutt is a hybrid and much better than just a mutt.

Because there is Hybrid Vigor. :lmao:

They are genetically better than the purebred. Sounds like a good excuse to get them out of doing those expensive health clearances that reputable breeders do. Just say F1 Hybrid vigor. :rotfl:

What exactly is the F1??

Figured out the F1. It is "first generation."

From the Rollingmeadowspuppies.com website:

A hybrid puppy has two purebred parents of different breeds. This intentional mix of breeds allows us to have the predictability of the purebred, while maintaining the genetic diversity of a mixed breed dog. A hybrid puppy's characteristics will fall within the range of the two breeds his parents are from. All of our puppies are first generation (F1) crosses. The F1 hybrid is the healthiest cross possible due to “hybrid vigor” or genetic diversity. We carefully select each purebred parent for the characteristics that would result in puppies with the most desirable pet qualities. The hybrids are bred just to be a perfect pet for you

Perhaps a lesson in basic genetics would be helpful :rotfl2:

OK, is anyone checking out the ads on the top of this thread? :rotfl:

in addition to this i have read that Lancaster County PA is the biggest puppy mill county in the country.........and most people do not live where the dogs are, the mill is often down the road from where they live and what these people do is take a few dogs from the mill to their house so you don't see the actual conditions. you see their house & they claim to be a backyard breeder. you can find this info out by googling the peoples names & if 2 addresses come up, in the same town or near the place of residence, you can bet they are operating as a mill...i did this & found someone from NY state to be doing this exact thing!

We raise train and show horses and horses and dog's seem to go hoof and paw, and over the year's showing throughout the NE and Pa all the way out to Ill. We have seen a LOT of Amish folks at the show's selling puppies. Esp. sickly pup's. :sad2: We leave next week for Ohio for a BIG horse show that run's for a month. It is called the American Quarter Horse Congress they have an area on the show grounds that is called Puppy Alley where a great majority are Amish folk's from Lancaster and other state's too. with ton's of puppies of all diff. breed's a lot of mixed breed's most that look very sickly and to me (jmo) it scream's PUPPYMILL. Also am I in no way affiliated to PETA!!! Peta would hate me if they knew me we raise and show horses and we raise our own beef to them I am satan!! I would just like to see people be careful when purcashing a pup even if the breeder is a sweetheart on the phone and the nicest person doesnt mean they are an ethical breeder. They are going to be nice because they are trying to sell you something. We sell some of our horses and if you wanted to buy one I put people through the ringer and I never sell sight unseen (I realize it's a horse big diff. from a dog) But all of my horses are bred by me with great consideration my heart and soul goes into every foal and I want to see the people that are buying them. I also have a signed agreement with all purchaser's that if they want to sell I have first option to buy back. If I cant then I ALWAY'S help the owner find a purchaser.

Do you know why most of these online breeders only give a 1 year "health guarantee"? It's because many genetic disorders (like hip dysplasia) don't show up until the dog is older...after that the dog is yours and the "breeder" is no longer responsible. A GOOD breeder is willing to take one of their dogs back no matter how old it is!

But you know what I find really really sad?

There has been an incredible amount of information and help posted here for the OP and others. But it doesn't matter...as a few of them said themselves "I don't care, I got a good dog, and I'd do it again".

That's great...but what did that dog's parents and brothers and sisters have to go through? How many of them do you think are still alive today? (I'll bet the number is MUCH MUCH lower than you think.)

Too many folks are ready to spend thousands of dollars for "hybrid" puppies while thousands and thousands of purebred dogs and wonderful "mutts" are put to sleep in shelters every day. But they don't want to answer too many questions...

It just breaks my heart... :sad2:

I dont get why someone would pay big bugs for a "hybrid" or "designer" dog. :confused3

They are mutts. And while mutts are wonderful animals & in a lot of pet cases, just as good as a pure breed, I could never see spending the money some of these "breeders" are asking for a mutt.

My pure breed dogs did not cost as much as some of these "hybrid designer" dogs.

Not every dog has to be a champion. Not every dog has to cost thousands of dollars.

Most breeders will charge a difference between a show quality pup & a pet quality pup. Like I said earlier, both of my breeders did. I had no interest in showing, so I did not need breeding rights. So we bought the pet only rights.

Since my dogs are pets, I dont care about the AKC registration, but both of my breeders gave me the paperwork once the dogs were spayed/neutred. Ok, my Dane does not have her paperwork yet, but she is not spayed yet since she is only 9 weeks old. But when she is 6 months old, she will be.

There are lots of great places to get pups from. There is NOTHING wrong with finding a breeder online. But do your research & make sure they are actually a BREEDER, not broker or puppy mill.

Know what you are getting. Getting a dog from a puppy mill or backyard breeder is not only BAD for the dogs involved, it continues the cycle. More and more abused animals. More and more females breed to death. More and more animals living in horrible conditions. And more and more people buying these dogs.

Plus getting a dog from these places, you are spending big bucks & know NOTHING of the health of the animals or their lines.

You are spending SO much money on these animals. Why would you not want to make sure you are getting the most healthy pet you can?

All the parents of our purchased dogs, have parents that have health records. I know their hips, I know how their eyes, etc etc.

You can buy that cute pup in the window of the pet store, or the picture you see online. Sure they are cute & loveable. But what are the chances when the dog turns 3, they wont need massive hip surgery or other health problems? These things add up & cost money.

Ok, ok, any dog can have health problems. But the chances of serious health problems from a puppy mill dog vastly out number the chances of a good bred animal.

And I wonder how many people actually read what they are signing with a PuppyMill. Did you read Rollingmeadows guarantee and contract?

If there is ever a lawsuit regarding the puppy, the BUYER pays all the breeder's legal fees.

So, to exercise the right to your guarantee, you have to pay for your own vet work, your own autopsy, and then if the breeder refuses and you end up taking them to court - YOU have to pay their legal fees. :rolleyes1

Who in their right mind would ever try to exercise the guarantee? Nobody. So, the puppymill gets to say they have a 1 year guarantee, when they know that it is absolutely worthless.

9. The purchaser agrees to pay for seller’s legal fees should the purchaser not fulfill contractual obligations. Purchaser agrees to let seller determine venue. Should any litigation arise regarding the puppy for any reason the purchaser is obligated to pay the seller’s legal fees.

Never have I EVER seen a contract like that! That is insane!

Why would anyone agree to that? Go find a real breeder!
