A lesson that should be learned here is deny. deny. deny. Forget the truth people don't want to here it. She would have been much better off had she just lied and said she never used the n word. Again, such a hypocritical world we live in!
I know that it had something to do with Orange/Protestant; Green/Catholic. Now I am just speculating because my Dad never gave reasons, but I think it had a lot to do with the persecution in Ireland of the Irish Catholics by the English. It was definitely a statement back when I was a kid, and one my Dad did not like.
True story...my first husband was Polish and French. His sister was.....let's say vocal......about her disdain if my Irish heritage and the fact that my children were taught to embrace their Irish background. She would loudly wear her Orange, not caring that she was disrespecting people. Well, year and years and many anti Irish comments later, she married an card carrying ( I kid you not, he has a card) Irish fellow, and has more shamrocks floating around than I do
My personal smile was when they played bagpipes at the wedding![]()
Nancyg56 said:This is true. I took a diversity class and found that most Americans do not know a thing about this disgraceful time in our history. The majority of the class also had no idea about the treatment of Japanese Americans during WWII. AS I said earlier, if one takes the time to study our history, perhaps how we tolerate certain words, phrases, and jokes might be different.
I agree that the main issue at present is NOT what happened 30 years ago. The main issue is the more recent events that lead directly to the lawsuit. I'm sure it will all go away in time- the general public doesn't usually have a very long attention span (SQUIRREL).
However, she will be taking an enormous financial hit for the forseeable future. Reputation in shreds. Kicked off the Food Network. Looks like the Shopping Network is saying bye bye as well. I'm sure her cookbook and merchandise sales will go in the dumper.
Does she deserve this, on top of probably losing the lawsuit?? Opinion appears to be divided. And I find it troubling that it is.
Why hasn't this woman come forward?Article about the trial and testimony - won't be reported in the mainstream media since it doesn't further their witch hunt.

Her cookbook sales have skyrocketed since this trouble started. Just read that the presales for her new cookbook coming out in October are through the roof in support of her.
This was already posted. And all the article does is highlight select passages from the testimonies, which have been fully available through the 'mainstream media' all week.
She definitely has a lot of supporters, if FB and the DIS are any indication, it makes sense that they'd show that support by buying her items. I kind of anticipate there to be a BIG boom for PD-branded items for a short while, but eventually this mess will die down and when she's no longer a public figure, I'm sure even her most ardent fans will move on.
Her supporters will be behind her for awhile. She's had quite the following for 10 years+. I don't expect her fans to just run from her completely.
I understand your point, but when a public figure is no longer public or giving their fans new content to invest themselves in, they eventually lose interest.
Very true.
Well, obviously it's hard to keep up the outrage at the abuse of poor Paula if the people at whom you want to be angry have moved on and are no longer thinking and talking about the issue that you want to be angry about everybody thinking and talking about! How is that not logical?
I always find it amazing how people who swear by free markets and unfettered capitalism are upset when it doesn't work out the way they want it to...
I'm sorry, that is patently false. The "n" word was certainly a slur in the 1960s and 1970s, it was just apparently acceptable to use racial slurs where you grew up.
I see. So the only discrimination that can happen is against black people. The hell with all others. Got it.![]()
Haha, see, that is funny. I just think people need to be able to laugh at stereotypes about their race, religion, nationality, ect and not take them so personal or themselves so seriously.
Im a Dago Polack myself and can laugh at stuff like the Jersey Shore. I dont care if someone makes a dumb Pollack joke. I dont care if Dave Chappelle does a satirical bit on white people. I dont care when men are portrayed as dumb oafs in television shows. I grew up Catholic and Im all for any Catholic joke you have. I just dont take entertainment or comedy or satire so seriously. I have not once, in my entire life, heard a joke or some word and got offended. Not ever.
There is a big difference between something done in humor or satire and something done out of hate. If more people would just laugh at the caricatures of themselves and the people who are living representatives of those caricatures theyd spend much less time angry. It has to be exhausting trying to find a way for everything to be offensive.
Just my opinion of course.

And there ya go. YOu hit it, SPOT ON.
