So an older lady from an older generation said the N word 30 years ago? And this means she loses her job? Her life is in shambles? I remember as a kid in the 70/80s hearing the N word on television comedy shows and movies and knowing it was a bad word but never thinking it was a life destroying type of bad word...back then. Now we know this word is seriously offensive almost an extreme when you see what's going on with Paula Dean. Has anyone else had enough and just think this whole thing should go away?

She also lost her relationship with Wal-mart and them carrying her products.

I know of a few rappers whose labels should drop them if this is the case.

I know what she said was bad. But I also know that I don't want something that I said 30 years ago to cost me my life.

I think it was more the whole plantation wedding thing in 2005, not the n-word 30 years ago that has her business partners upset. I read the court doc and her brother sounds like scum. That part didn't help her any.

I agree that the main issue at present is NOT what happened 30 years ago. The main issue is the more recent events that lead directly to the lawsuit. I'm sure it will all go away in time- the general public doesn't usually have a very long attention span (SQUIRREL).

However, she will be taking an enormous financial hit for the forseeable future. Reputation in shreds. Kicked off the Food Network. Looks like the Shopping Network is saying bye bye as well. I'm sure her cookbook and merchandise sales will go in the dumper.

Does she deserve this, on top of probably losing the lawsuit?? Opinion appears to be divided. And I find it troubling that it is.

How much longer are we going to dwell on her for? Aren't there bigger fish to fry?

Yes.

:lmao:

And she did more than just say the N word 30 years ago. She tried to do a show on a Sambo Burger that the producers wisely made her rename the Beau Burger, and she planned a plantation wedding complete with black servants. She has shown time and time and time again that she's completely tone deaf on the issue. It's not just one thing. It's the baggage piling up. The Food Network was right to decline to renew her contract. And her tirade lately consisting of someone saw what I had built and wanted it and I is what I is and I'm not changing attitude is just all the more convincing that letting her go was the right choice.

Yeah, that part was the worst. What a horrifying idea.

IMO, it isn't that she used the word at some point in her past but that she has no remorse now for doing so. It's an offensive word and always has been.

So true. I think it has gone far enough. Not that she didn't deserve some of this. She deserves to be called out on this bad behavior.

I think everyone who has been clicking like on all these "I support Paula" Facebook pages ought to take a look at the complete deposition, the complaint, the interview from 2010 where she talked about not being able to see a black man standing in front of a black board, and her autobiography where she admitted to having an affair with a married man for 10 years. I couldn't "support" someone like that.

Why didn't Matt ask her about some of those instead of the use of the N word years ago?

Are you talking about the SNL piece with Chevy and Richard Pryor? That was a commentary on how terrible it is to use slurs. They were not just using the word for laughs. I can't think of another example of the use on TV and I watched a lot of TV in the 70s and 80s.

I have a he'll of a lot more to worry about than what a old woman says and really don't care, I'm sick of it. Worry about getting are soldiers home from these crappy wars we are still fighting. Bring home our hero's and stop worrying about an old woman who said the n word.

But really, people, is this public enemy #1? All of you who find her reprehensible have never, ever said anything inappropriate? Never laughed at a questionable joke or social media post? Is she perfect? Nope. Neither are any of us. Could we withstand the scrutiny she currently is undergoing? What will make her judge and jury happy? Pushing her to suicide?

OP, to answer your question, yes, yes, yes. I am really sick of hearing about it.

An old woman:confused3:rotfl2:? For crying out loud, she's only 66. That's a long way from old.

There were a few shows where they said that word. Good times and the Jeffersons are just two of the many shows that used that word back in the day.

As for Paula Dean, I only picked up on the Cliffs notes version from segments on ET etc. she was on TV today bawling her eyes out and it all just seems like too much.

It's closer to being old than it is to being young IMHO

Ridiculous. Tell me anyone over the age of 50 who hasn't said the n word.
Really?

Let the poor woman alone.
