Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

A great tip I read is to cover the mickey area with tape like washi or masking tape, then trace around mickey. Then you can remove just mickey or surrounding area to paint. As for cracked smear or fade, you will need to seal whatever you use with a clear finish. I did a Jack band with acrylic Sharpies and those may work out well for you. Just remember to peel tape after applying finish before it dries but not when it's too wet.
Thank you for the suggestions!!!! Unfortunately, that's all way beyond me. Definitely more time and effort than I want to invest. I just would like to trace the Mickey head with a black pen or marker, and be done. :rotfl: If that's not possible, I'll just leave them alone. :thumbsup2

Quick question for those of you who have used swavorski crystals - I've used nail polish as the color and base coat to seal, but I do have some cracking when I close the band. I haven't adhered any crystals yet because I'm afraid they may fall off at some point now d/t the cracking. Should I go ahead and not worry or start over? Any suggestions to avoid the cracking if I start over?

My last one was very simple because I am just not good at art, no matter how much I want to be. :D

I took a green band, used nail art stickers for the black "stripes", black fine point sharpie for the outline of mickey heads, black nail polish for the edge part that is normally dark gray, and covered all with clear nail polish. This is from Feb 2014 so it's been like 20 months and 10 long days of use in the parks, including 2 complete drenching rainfests. Only part that looks bad is the small mickey head outline messed up. Those grooves weren't as deep and no matter how long I let the sharpie dry, when I covered it with the clear polish it smeared. If I was doing it again, I'd leave the clear polish off that part and just take my sharpie with me and re-outline it in the evenings as necessary. I would also use a clear base coat and not a clear top coat as I did.

I might try something a bit trickier this time, found the cutest mickey head crystal stickers and also a sleeping beauty nail art kit! Choices choices!

Hmm...this may seem like a shot in the dark, but is there any chance any locals, or folks with a little extra time on their vacation could order a custom Purple Magic Band for me at Magic Kingdom?

We're not going to December, but I'd love to have a Purple one all ready to go by the time my trip comes around!

I wouldn't need anything on it, except the color Purple, really.

Any kind DIS friends, please send me a PM and we can figure out the exact details. Thanks!

I have three out of four of my bands done. The first is rather simple with a clear base coat then red sparkle nail polish over a red band and then some sticker details and clear base coat on top.

I really wanted glow in the dark but I just wasn't real happy last year with all of the glow paints and polishes I tried. I got the plain glow skins from magicyourband and put them on a grey band with a clear base coat and then a coat of white nail polish. I then applied my stickers and rhinestones and finally a clear base coat. These glow really bright, look much nicer in person as my camera really was not happy focusing in the dark. You can see a lot of detail of the stickers when it's glowing. This years took a fraction of the time to do as I did all of my testing last year and knew what worked and what didn't.

Gorgeous!

Help! I've painted my magic bands with acrylic paint and now I don't know what to seal them with?! I've bought a matte finish top coat(which ppl have said tends to crack), a clear nail polish, but now I'm thinking maybe an acrylic sealant would be best? Here is a pic of my sons:

Minnie band 2015.jpg My 4th and last band! Started as a yellow band. I removed the outer part then added a clear base coat, light blue nail polish coat, clear sparkle nail polish coat, nail tape, Minnie sticker, flower rub ons and another clear base for top coat. I found Wet N Wild Polishes crack less than other brands of nail polish I have tried. After taking photos I see a few tiny touch up spots it needs, but otherwise done unless I add a few rhinestones somewhere.

I found nail polish to be fine. It only cracks after lots of use. I have an old band I decorated and wore and twisted and just abused it. It's just starting to crack now. You could use an acrylic sealant but not sure how smooth it would be. I did my mailbox with acrylic paint and sealant and it's fine on a mailbox but I'm not sure how smooth it would look on a band. Do you have anything you could practice on?

I've tried acrylic sealer, base coat an top coat. The top coat cracked, but only the one that was touted as 'super hard finish' was really noticeable. The combo base coat/top coat wasn't bad and the base coat as a top coat only cracked after a lot of use, and even then, it was just a little around the holes on the band.

So far the acrylic sealer is working really well. It is very flexible, even after several coats. I bought acrylic paints and sealer that were meant for leather, so I don't know if that makes a difference, since other people have had good results with whatever they found at walmart or Micheal's. I just ordered the one for leather when I got my paints because I could get matte and satin and it was convenient.
