Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

I really like these. I believe I know what to do to use the temporary tattoos now from all of the posts and responses to my questions. Base coat, dry, tattoos and another base coat.

Now I am going to ask a question that you all might think is really silly. How do you put on the tattoos without covering the holes in the band? Do you cover them and then somehow poke something through to open them? I have been wondering this for a while, but have felt silly for asking!

Thank you! I had fun putting this together.

I don’t think your question is silly at all. I actually wondered the same thing. The tattoos are very thin, almost web like. When you lay it on it barely covers the hole. You could use anything that would fit in the hole and just work it around to clear the space.

Pics of the band done for DH - the NE sports fan. Far from perfect but he liked it. :)

Did you have any issues using the bands at disney? Did they scan ok? I mean after you used the polish and tattoos to decorate them.

We just got back and had 2 sets of bands that I decorated. One set had 3 or so coats of nail polish (was changing it to white) and temp tattoos topped with a base coat and the readers had no issues. The other band I had I had glued rhinestone type pieces and one was right over the reader. Again - no problems at all. In fact I think the readers almost worked better than when I was last there and just had plain bands.

I just placed the temp tattoo over the holes and they molded themselves over. I did have to clear the holes from some of the nail polish but the tattoos were no problem.

Where is everyone buying tattoos? I remember about 5 years ago, I could buy all sorts for $1 at Dollar Tree. Tried there and they don't have them anymore. Is there someone to go inexpensively?

I bought one package at Party City for .99 and a second package at the grocery store for 2.99

Received our new bands for our up coming trip in March. Was able to decorate both DH & DD's MB. Love the way my DD's band came out.

How did these bands get white? It's not an available color. Did white used to be an option or is there a white base coat that works well for tattoos? The poster said they just used a clear base coat...

Well I have finally finished both set of MBs for our upcoming trip in May n our AP holders ones. The red was a bit harder because of the dark color n DD wanted a specific character.

I yet again used temporary tattoos with base coat polish.

These are all of the MBs I've decorated for our past and future trips since MB testing started last year. Idk but I'm sure these won't be the last ones I'll get to decorate.

Tinkerbell, was there a specific base coat you used? We raided Party City and Target today for tattoos (found a bunch) but I couldn't find a clear base. Only clear top coats and cloudy base coats.

Well, finally made some bands tonight. The first one is a pink band with Ariel and Frozen tattoos. This is what dd wanted. I still need to coat it with clear polish. The second band was a pink band that I painted with a beige type color polish and then added Frozen tattoos to make an all Frozen band (this is my band). Need to finish it with a clear coat too.

Hi. The band is grey n what makes it look white are the dark tattoos n lighting in which I took the picture. No I used a reg base coat.

Has anyone thought about and/or tried painting their band with Acrylic paint and then sealing that with acrylic sealer? I am in art school and Acrylic is much more flexible than nail polish and it doesn't really crack. I saw someone on Etsy selling custom painted bands this way and I just wanted to see if anyone else had tried it?

My base coat that I used also as a top coat has a bit of a purplish tint in the bottle but when you are applying in such a thin layer it doesn't show the tint on the band.

For a couple of the bands I used a combo base/top coat because the base coat was pulling up color from the other nail polish - both red and purple polish - didn't notice it with any other colors. We didn't notice any difference in how it performed although we weren't exactly rough with the bands. On all of them, no matter if I only used a base coat or if I used the base/top coat, if we opened the bands up too far we caused tiny fracture lines on the ends of the bands but the polish stayed on and it wasn't visible unless you were really inspecting.

I did find IASW stickers today at Michaels... Check it out! They were cute too.. and $3.99 a sheet

I'm already planning my band. I really want to do something that's themed for IASW. Unfortunately, even with the 50th anniversary of the ride, it's been impossible to find stickers, tattoos, etc on the subject. Since I'm not a very good artist, I've thought about trying to find some clipart or some pics online and trying to make my own temp tattoos.
I've found easy instructions on how to make my own temp tattoos and rub-ons. I'm thinking that the rub-ons would be better as they seem to be more opaque instead of see thru.

But I think that no matter what I do, I'm going to use a clear polish over the top to protect what I've done.

Thanks. I'll have to go and check it out. I did look online and they don't don't have them there. But maybe my local store will.

After a few tries I finally got my band the way I want it. At first I put the tattoos on the band when it was its original pink color but the tattoos didnt stand out as much as I wanted. Then I tried to paint the band a pale pink but that didnt work well since I used the pink that came with a french manicure set which meant the pink was too sheer. Finally I used the white nail polish that came with the manicure kit. I got the tattoo kit at WalMart (they had a few different sets).
