I am just a crazy sugar/carb eater. And while I don't need to lose weight, my diet is terrible and only drags me down. Has anyone cut out sugar completely (no processed sugars, only fruit)?? I really don't think I can (or want to) give up carbs...but I can limit them.

What are the pros to this? Thanks!

I have definitely limited processed sugar in my diet. It's hard to escape it completely - there's sugar in the most bizarre places, like ketchup!

Dropping processed sugar has definitely helped me in terms of weight. Once you've been away from it for a week or two (that first week can be TOUGH!!) you don't usually miss it.

If you've got more questions, feel free to post them here, PM me or come on over to the WISH board. WISH stands for We're Inspired to Stay Healthy and there are lots of people there who limit processed sugar.

Good luck!!

I am currently on the South Beach Diet ending week 1, which is no sugar at all--not even fruit. While I really miss fruit (that will begin again next week), I have to admit I really do feel much better......more energy, less sluggish, etc.

Years ago I went to a holistic doctor with chronic sinus infections. One of the prerequisites for treatment was to eliminate sugar from my diet (except for fruit, natural sugar) and I couldn't believe how much weight I lost just from doing that.

Limiting carbs is also a very good idea. I really can feel a difference.

Your post brings up a funny story. In college (ages ago) one of my friends read a book called "Sugar Blues" about the dangers of refined sugar. He challenged us to go without refined sugar for a month. Only one friend, KR, took him up on it, so the two of them suffered through a sugarless month. After the month was over, KR confessed that he had been sneaking Twinkies in his room!

I gave up sugar and carbs and lost 55 pounds in 7 months....I have more energy, sleep better and look great!! (If I do say so myself!!)

I was tired and achy on day 3, but after that, it was smooth sailing!!
