Has anyone cracked the Stay/Play/Dine code?

Assuming that the s/p/d discount is coming for winter specials again, I would love to start running some numbers for Jan 2016. We used the s/p/d deal for our first trip in 2013, but I cannot find my notes for the life of me. The following year, in 2014, we lucked out and got a FD'ing PIN code, so that was easy to figure. I didn't see any FD'ing PIN codes go out for 2015, so I am going to assume that FD'ing for winter is not going to happen again (but hey, we can wish, right?).

Has anyone cracked the code? I have read several different theories, like child pricing for tickets and dining plan, plus a small % off room. Does this seem to be the most accurate?

I don't have any info for you but am wondering the same so I'll be following!

When we went in January, it came out pretty close to full price room and tickets and 45% off the dining plan, if I remember correctly.

ETA: or it could have been 55% off and 45% of the actual cost paid.

Hoping for a little Pixie Dust for January 2016 discounts! I really hope that it will be better than S/P/D!!!

As others have said, pretty difficult to pin down the exact savings as it can depend on the resort and number of people in your party. If it helps, we did SPD January of this year at POR. Family of 5 (1 child deemed adult for the DDP) and we booked for 9 nights. SPD got us the room, tix (no hopper) and DDP. Total cost was about $4,400. If I were to have paid rack rate and full DDP plus tickets, it would have been about $5700, so we saved between $1200-1300 over rack rate prices. About a 22% savings. In other years, everything else being equal, when we've gotten the free DDP I usually estimate that value at around $1800 for our family (again 3 deemed adult, 2 kids). So SPD while definitely better than nothing, wasn't (for us) as good a value as outright free dining. We were better off by about $600 with free dining than we were with SPD.

My thread from last year (which I know was already posted above) pinpoints how it works.
http://www.disboards.com/threads/stay-play-dine-calculation.3339097/

Last year the discount was:
55% off of the cost of the dining plan (for adults and kids alike) QS @ value; Regular @ Moderate and Deluxe
NO discount on tickets
A small discount on the resort which varied by resorts, by weekday vs. weekend, and by the travel dates.
If you upgraded the dining plan you paid the full price difference to upgrade i.e. the difference between QS and Regular (the 55% discount only applied to the dining plan portion included in your package)

If a new stay play dine comes out I plan to research it once again to get to the bottom of how it works.

Now when you say 55 % off of dining....Would that include a discount off of an upgrade to deluxe dining or just standard dining, if we are staying in a moderate?
TIA

That would have been really nice - unfortunately it didn't work that way.

If I remember correctly it was 55% off the QS dining plan at Values and 55% off the regular dining plan for Moderate and Deluxe. I'll edit my earlier post to reflect that so it doesn't confuse anybody else.

I figured, just wishful thinking. Seems like it is only fair that if I am paying more for an upgraded product that I should see a little more of a discount. Similar to the Room Only Discount....Deluxe Hotels give a higher percentage off than a moderate.

Thanks for the responses! I just hope that they have a new winter discount that is easier to figure on paper. And not to mention, compared to FD'ing, the SPD is a bit of a letdown as far as an overall discount. But, hey, it's better than nothing, right? LOL

BREAKING NEWS (for all of you discount nerds out there!)

I believe I have cracked the code on the SPD Discount for Moderate Resorts - here it is!

TICKETS: No Discount (no surprise there);
ROOM: $1.00 Off Rack Rate per night (no that isn't a joke!);
DINING: Adult #1 = 55% OFF Dining Plan; Person 2-5 = 45% OFF Dining Plan (regardless of adult or child).

There is no price break when changing or upgrading Tickets or when changing or upgrading the dining plan. See here for more details...http://www.disboards.com/threads/2016-stay-play-dine-calculation-thread.3451389/

If I can get motivated I'll look at how it works at values and deluxe too!

VALUE RESORTS

TICKETS: No Discount (no surprise there);
ROOM: $1.75 Off Rack Rate per night (no that isn't a joke!); (with the hotel tax this actually comes to $1.97 per night off at POP and $1.98 off per night at All Stars)
DINING: 40% OFF Everybody.

LAST BREAKING NEWS (for all of you discount nerds out there!)

Deluxe Resorts work the same as Moderates - see below! Thread with the details is here: http://www.disboards.com/threads/2016-stay-play-dine-calculation-thread.3451389/

MODERATE & DELUXE RESORTS

TICKETS: No Discount (no surprise there);
ROOM: $1.00 Off Rack Rate per night (no that isn't a joke!); (with the hotel tax this actually comes to $1.13 per night off)
DINING: Adult #1 = 55% OFF Dining Plan; Person 2-5 = 45% OFF Dining Plan (regardless of adult or child).

That is that folks - SPD has been cracked once again! For everybody except solo travelers this years SPD is most certainly lower than last years. More people should consider the room only discount (especially if your eating habits don't jive with the dining plan and you think you would spend less!).

Using the above calculation put me within $.05 of what I got. Staying at AOA.

Thank you for all your hard work. I ended up booking a split stay room only at Pop and AoA Cars suite.

Yes, thank you so much for cracking the code!! :worship: Sadly, with the dismal discounts, we are priced out this year, but it's still nice to know what the actual discount is! I know it's selfish of me to say so, but I am hoping that there are more people like us who cancel their trips or simply don't go, so maybe next year the discount will be better. :genie:
