Friends of ours want to go to Cancun in Sept for their 20th anniversary. We want to go with them, but I can't find any info except the travel guides. We need real advice!!! Which All Inclusive resort? And where can I find some discounts? Right now all we are being offered is rack rate, there must be better out there, right? Thanks so much!:)

Sorry Disneycrazymom, I don't have any info for you, but thought I'd bump this back up to page one, in case there are some Cancun experts out there today. :)

I've never been to Cancun, either. But have you tried internet searches? Try Fodors, Expedia, Travelocity, etc. The fodors site has comments and ratings. Good luck.

I suggest renting a timeshare villa at The Royal Sands or any of its sister resorts. It is the top timeshare resort in the world, period. You'll be impressed.;)

I have been to Cancun, but it was about 6 or 7 years ago. We went through Apple vacations. There are alot of great deals out there right now though the fall.

Look for charters from Chicago or Dallas or Houston and
fly or drive to your departure city. September is a really slow
month and unless everything already happened-there should
be good deals out there. Look at the Riviera maya for good
all inclusives...Bahia Principe near Tulum(upgrade to oceanview),
Oasis Akumal is very small on a great beach and has good
food. Call a travel agent...look in Sunday's paper-a Chicago
paper would be good. Plan on paying all up front since
it's so close to travel time. You MUST have government issued
birth certificate and govt issued photo ID(drivers license)
or a valid passport. Cancun itself is very touristy, that's why
I suggested the area south of it. But-many love Cancun so
look at one of the Palace Resorts if it's an all inclusive you're
wanting. Palace Resorts are in general-very nice and all
over the Yucatan.
I've been to the Yucatan area several times-Cancun twice and
south 3X. We love it!!!

Thank-you all very much! The StL paper had some specials and I have the Fun Jet book. Now I'm off to those web sites. My friend likes the looks of the Gala Resort Playacar. Anyone been there? If I understand the map it is outside of Cancun. Thanks again!:)

We went there 7 years ago on our honeymoon.

At that time, the best deals were offered through tour companies. We booked a package through a travel agent with a tour company called MagnaTours. The package included our accommodations at an all-inclusive (The Omni), airfare and airport transfers. It was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than purchasing the airfare and hotel separately.

The Omni was absolutely fabulous, but geared toward honeymooners and adult couples. Might be great for you, but not a family/child-type atmosphere, so a re-visit isn't likely for DH and me anytime soon.

I have heard wonderful things about the "Palaces."

Check it out. Each Palace is geared toward a different type of traveler: family, honeymooners, singles, seniors, etc. Choose the one that best suits your group. I've heard the food and accommodations at these places are to-die-for.

DCmom, call a local travel agent. Tell them that's where you're interested in going and ask them to check on tour package pricing.

You can research it yourself in the meantime and choose the option that's the best deal.
