I am just curious here... after searching the web, I've found some places that specialize in hotel liquidations (I found the place that got the Port Orleans French Quarter stuff & also the Swan stuff) Anyways, has anyone EVER been to a hotel liquidation & was it worth it???

I'm waiting for a price to ship the POFQ armoire to my house!

Never heard of it, but I'd totally be interested in the website if you're willing to share! :teeth: Sounds fascinating!

Oooo, me, too. Do you have to pick it up in FL? Good excuse for a trip.

Here's the link for the swan furniture in Connecticut

Here's the link for the Port Orleans Armoire, they also have the mirrors, bed frame & end tables as well...

They also had the curtains!

I'm really curious if this is worth looking into further! The place in Florida will ship the stuff to you wherever you live... (at cost of course)

I've never done one on-line but have been to one in person and they are great in my opinion. I got a TV for $25 - it was great when I was just starting out in an apartment for the first time. I also got a great chair for that first apartment. I don't think I would do it now as I like furniture that's not been beaten on - I know full well how I treat furniture in a hotel room. But I will check out the link as I am a tireless bargain shopper.

Thanks Castlegazer! How did you ever hear about the sale? It seems to me, that SOME furniture is less beaten up than other types of furniture... I'm interested in an entertainment armoire, which I imagine isn't beaten as badly as say a nightstand! I don't know... I'd REALLY love to go to a local sale! There's one at the Regent on Wall Street in NYC this weekend, they REALLY want top dollar for the armoires though (bummer)...

I just checked out the web pages and you just can't shake a stick at the bargains here - a wall mirror for $15!. It seems to me, though, that they may charge you an arm and a leg to ship an armoir but it is beautiful - and invokes the resort you love.

Sorry, posted while you were posting.

I was working as a leasing agent in the commercial retail area of the hotel complex so I got an inside scoop on the available items. I think they post them as you found in the newspaper. Do a search for a liquidator near you too - that might work. I know a lot of liquidators in my line of work but none that have sales open to the public except at the stores/businesses they are liquidating and in those instances they post it in the newspaper or on street corners.

Oh - and one more thing - IKEA is coming to Stoughton!

Hi Castlegazer!

I thought the same thing about the mirror, for fifteen dollars, how could you even possibly go wrong!! About the armoire, I figured that even if it double the cost to 350.00, it was still a heck of a bargain, even if by some chance you had to re-finish it... I wish I lived closer though!! The deals just cannot be beat... I wonder if I should call back about my shipping quote?

Oh, is Ikea good? I've never heard of it!

If you're looking for good cheap furniture it can't be beat. I can't quite describe the type of furniture they have other than they are best suited for loft type furnishings, but you will get the idea fromtheir web site. They are a different type of retailer, and they are a sensation whereever they locate here in the states. The closest one to us is in New Jersey - I think there is one opening in New Haven or close to their this year. They have a lot of entertainment systems. Check them out at www.ikea.com. I think you make a good point about shipping, though. My entertainment armoire cost a few thousand dollars.

I, too, have requested an estimate on shipping costs (to the Midwest). I also asked how they determine which specific piece of furniture to ship to each person, as I imagine they're in varying condition.

I took advantage of a hotel liquidation here after the Olympics back in 1996. We got a 27" floor console Color TV for $100. I'm watching it right now!

Hi Doug123, you might want to prepare yourself, my shipping estimate is somewhere around 250.00!!! That brings the price of the armoire to 425.00, I think it might still be worth it though...

The bummer, is that it will cost 22.00 to ship each mirror, so the mirror's are 37.00 each... I'm not sure if I'm going to go with those... they are large however 38" tall, I guess that's not all that much for shipping, but since I don't know where I'll put them, I'm not sure if I want to do it!!

Hmmm....

Robinrs, how did you hear about the hotel liquidation that you went to? I really want to know if there are any coming to boston! There's one at the Regent on Wall Street in NYC this weekend... I'd love to hit that one up, but am too cheap to pay what they're asking for the furniture!!

I've gotten things from hotel liquidations as well.. but for local places.

I remember getting a desk, and a chair when I was younger.

As for IKEA, I love it there. Therre is a new store about 45 minutes from my house. So whenever I am in the Philly area, I usually try to stop over there.

I found out via a hotel worker who was making a killing just delivering the TVs. He only charged $25 per TV, which wasn't bad. My sister, aunt, cousin and I got one.

I think I found the Marriott Grande Vista furniture on another hotel liquidation website. It says Orlando Marriott Suite hotel, and I know they have been remodeling. The warehouse is on the way to my sister's house, so I will have to check it out. Looks like a fun place.

Momof2inPA, can you give the link for the warehouse??? Also, report back what you find, this sounds like fun :)

Wow! I just called about the armoire and they have 150 of them. I am going to try to arrange shipping and may end up with it! Woohoo. I was actually looking for one of these for the past week. I am tried of my old, very old, dresser and not having enough space for my stuff. Thanks a bunch.
