Has anyone been DVC for years and NOT owned direct contracts?

Lots of people here on the DIS own only resale contracts!!! You will find plenty of company amonst owners who have decided that the number of options to stay with your resale points is plenty!!!

We love RIV and its our top resort...stay every trip as part of our split stay or solely when we don't split stay...so other then resale RIV, any future purchases will be direct.

But, lots of great reasons to go resale!!

I have owned since 2010 and only resale. Now lots of my contracts are grandfathered in with the benefits
Ive been meaning to ask but how were resale prices back in the day? Were they a lot closer to direct prices since there really was no difference at that point other than a slower closing and potentially loaded/stripped contracts?

I think one of the smartest things you can do is start with resale and resale only. If you choose later to add direct (as many, many do) then amazing but you get like 75% if the good with resale and only really miss like 25% of the direct action, so to speak.

I’m sure some regretted not going direct when it was cheaper but it’s not like that exists now lol

We started with 3 resale contracts, but bought a 50 point contract in 2017 when you could be considered a full DVC-Y member with that few points.

I understand the large majority of the costs of DVC fall into the yearly dues, but I struggle pulling the trigger on direct due to the large price difference between it and resale. Anyone own resale only and feel good with their decision?
We started with resale only. 3 different resorts with 4 contracts. We did end up buying direct but that was specifically for future proofing and to get us access to the Sorcerer Pass. After that we have purchased more resale! It’s not a bad thing to just have resale, if you don’t need/want blue card benefits stick with resale!

I'm resale only; only been a member for a year or so. I don't feel like we miss out other than the cheap passes. I actually would love to go direct just for those but I haven't been able to get the math to work for me, especially since my kids' school implemented new rules about absences and now we have to travel during school vacations if we want to bring the kids. I foresee the larger amount of points being more useful to us than the annual passes now. If I went direct, I'd sell some of my Bay Lake points and end up with about 50 fewer points. I only have so much cash I want tied up in DVC.

I have mostly resale and enough direct points to bank borrow and go to check out new hotels. I have some direct perks but not all. It's enough for me!

I did not even make it through ROFR on my first contract (BW resale) before I went direct due the 2022 summer discounts…
I added on via resale prior to my first contract closure. I was very anti-direct. Now I'm pro-direct for the correct price, which I may never find that meets my requirements. lol.
