Harry Potter Complete Book Spoiler Thread

Hmmm, there's bound to be lots of wizards & witches at that wedding. The Weasleys are close to most of the OotP. Could this be a vulnerable time? Maybe when & where Voldemort chooses to attack & "the War" begins...

The war has already begun.

well, and also, remember that Harry thinks that Bill is a really cool guy, so he'd want to be at his wedding. Plus, he's practically a member of the Wealey family. and there's no way that Mrs. Weasley would let him skip the big day. I also loved the way JK finished the book by Harry thinking of the wedding and thinking that there would be one more happy day to spend with his friends before having to face Voldemort.

its going to be a long 2+ years until the seventh book! I wish it were here now! :earsgirl:

Yes, I definately see what you're saying because Harry also sees Bill as family of sorts. He sees all the Weasley's that way...except for Percy of course. I just meant that if it comes down to it, going after Voldemort would be a bigger priority than going to the wedding. But I'm sure it's a moot point since he is most likely attending. He made that pretty clear at the end of the book :) I just enjoy being argumentative ;)

OOO I'd forgotten about the pensieve. I bet that could be a big help to Harry.

Which raises a question- who is Dumbledore's heir?

Or where is DD's will and who's in it? Because he doesn't have to leave everything to the same person. Also, how many of his possessions are personal and how many are school property?

Doesn't Dumbledore have a brother? Aside from specific bequests it would stand to reason that he would inherit the bulk of his estate.

I was trying to stay unspoilered for this book but once I heard that a major character was going to be killed off my mind immediately went to Dumbledore.

If the series is setting up for a big showdown between Harry and Voldemort in the end you can't have a repeat of the ending of the last book where Dumbledore apparates in to save the day. It just makes sense to remove that possibility from the narrative. Dumbledore will still be in his portrait which will allow him to play a limited role - but this means he can't play an active role.

I suspect Harry (or his scar) is one of the horcruxes. Supposedly creating one is dangerous and difficult. So Lily's last minute interference caused the process to disrupt in a way that killed Voldemort as he was casting the spell.

If the prophecy states that one will survive and his Voldemort's is contained in both of them then he guarantees his survival no matter the outcome. Harry's blood was needed to bring him back at the end of GoF. I suspect this horcrux thing is why only Harry's could be used.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the initials was Regulus Black. I'll bet the locket is somewhere in the house. Kreacher probably knows where it is.

I'm not sure a DE attack at Bill and Fleur's wedding would be productive. If we go with Dumbledore's reasonings on how powerful love is, wouldn't a wedding be pretty protected?

And yes, Aberforth Dumbledore is the only relative that we have heard of, but JKR has said that there is a reason we haven't heard about spouses and families of Hogwarts teachers yet. That may come into play in Book 7 with Fawkes and such. We know Fawkes is personal property, but I think the rest that we know about is school propery...except maybe the pensieve. Anybody remember the descriptions of the headmaster's office before DD took over?

Supposedly Dumbledore was one of the few that ever stayed at Hogwarts over the holidays (per things JKR has said that are posted on mugglenet). So does he have any surviving family? Is Aberforth still alive? Could he have chosen Harry as his heir? He seemed to be getting closer and closer to Harry in this book, as though Harry was the person he cared most about.
I'd have to assume the pensieve would be a personal possession. I seem to remember in OOTP, Dumbledore saying something about how Harry could go on destroying his belongings if he felt the need to because he had too much stuff, after Sirius had died. So some of the stuff in that office must have been his. Probably not the furniture or the paintings, but some of the little things. And if the pensieve wasn't his personal possession than where is Dippet's pensieve? Or at least the thoughts that would have been in the pensieve?

I don't think DD would bequeath Fawkes like property. They were more like partners than master & pet. Even Harry says he thinks Fawkes is gone for good.

I just had a really frightening thought :earseek: What happens if JKR dies before she finishes book 7! I know that is really morbid but....it just popped into my head. :guilty: :sad2:

I was just thinking that it would be neat if Harry came upon some hidden memories from Lily and James in Book 7.

One of the biggest conflicts I have is Snape. I really do want Snape to be good. That's what bothered me the most when I finished the book and had no one to discuss it with. It seems a lot of people here also believe that Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him to keep Malfoy from having to do it (and perhaps other reasons, as well). I hope that is the case.

I can't believe you said that out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God forbid.

I just saw an interview on the net somewhere, an interviewer actually asked JKR this, in the form of "who knows the story in case anything happens to you?" The answer was "no one", she hasn't even told her husband. So yes, we'd be out of luck if she gets hit by a bus!

Mrskreamer, I must admit, I've thought the same thing.

Okay, I'm on vacation and have stolen away to a little coffee shop to read the DISboards. I have been dying to see everyone's thoughts, but can't possibly read every post in this thread. So, I'm going to throw my two cents worth in and then head back to the condo.

I was just speechless after finishing the book. Okay that's not true...because I kept saying, "I can't believe she killed him off" It actually made me angry. It also made me angry that Snape seemed to have really turned back to the dark side.

However, on the way down to Gulf Shores, we were playing the old Harry Potter movies for the boys, and in one scene Dumbledore is explaining why Fawkes burst into flames to Harry. His words went something like...

"A phoenix is a bird that bursts into flames when it's time to die has come and is then reborn from the ashes."

I immediately thought of what happened to Dumbledore at his funeral...He burst into flame...unless I read that totally wrong. Could that mean that he will somehow be reborn?

I also thought of how Dumbledore looked at Severus and said "Severus, please..." Nowhere in the previous books does Dumbledore ever beg anyone for anything. I think he may have been asking Snape to kill him so that Malfory wouldn't have to.

I will continue to think these things until book 7 simply b/c I don't want to think that Dumbledore is gone forever and that Snape is really on Voldemort's side. I refuse to think that Rowling would portray Dumbledore as wise through the whole set of books and then have him be fooled by someone like Snape at the end.

Oh, and somewhere in this thread, someone said that they didn't feel closure at the end of the book, but I remember Rowling saying something about how books 6 and 7 were almost like two parts of the same book, so basically I think what we read was the first half of the last book.

Anyway, those are my thoughts, silly as they may be.

It was this interview where I read that she really has nothing written of the last book. She stated that she wants to spend time with her baby and will start working on the book soon.

Hi everyone.. I haven't read through the entire thread yet, as I just this moment, finished the book!

Have you guys discussed anything about who R.A.B. is?

I have a theory..

It's Regulus Black (Sirus's brother, mentioned in Book 5).

Does any one else have any other theories on this?

I just wanted to say that I felt the exact same thing. I finished the book early Sunday and was pretty angry and upset for the rest of the day.

After reading what everyone else has been saying I hope you all are right. I would love for Snape to redeem himself in the end and not be working for the Dark Lord.

Now we all just have to wait.

Yeah, that's been thrown out there. The only issue is, Regulus seems to have backed out of the DEs. Granted, we don't know for sure why he backed out, but the question is... was Regulus bra3ve enough, smart enough, etc. to figure out the Horcrux thing, find it, get through the defenses?

Ewww. The publishing company would hire a ghost writer to complete the series, which would be soooo second-rate.

Anyone ever read any of the Laura Ingalls Wilder "extended family" biographies? Several writers were hired to research and write about her mother's childhood, her grandmother's childhood, and her daughter's childhood. They are not memorable books, and they sell only because of their "Little House" connection.
