Harry Potter Complete Book Spoiler Thread

When I heard the last line of the last chapter will be "scar", I immediately thought of the movie Casa Blanca, and the song "As Time Goes By" modified slightly... You must remember this, a Kiss is just a kiss... A Scar is just a SCAR."

Dh said almost the exact same thing.

Just adding this to my list of threads. Haven't finished reading yet. I read the book when it first came out and finished it in the first week. HATED the ending, not at all happy about this book! But, that being said, I think the HBP isn't as bad as we were left to believe!

Sorry, only on page 5 so far, but had to ask this. Am I the only one that thinks Dumbledore might actually NOT be dead??

Is it possible that Dumbledore isn't quite as dead as we think he is ?

Oh, well had I read just ONE more post, I would have seen that I am in fact not alone in my thinking that Dumbledore's "death" is being staged.

MM, At first I WANTED TO BELIEVE DD isn't dead, I still halfway think he could come back and that the potion somehow was a "Put a Stopper on Death" potion... But I was recalling the way Fawkes reacted. I am strongly leaning to DD being only in paintings... and there was a quip that he didn't mind what hapened to him as long as they didn't take him off of the Chocolate Frog Cards... I think DD will be around, at least as a painting who can talk to HP.....

:jumping2:

Sorry, but while I'm sure there was more to his death than we know right now, I do believe Dumbledore is truly dead. However, it won't be as final as Sirius' death, as we have DD's portrait - which will play a role in HP7, IMO.

I beleive he is dead also - being the picture was on the wall with the other headmasters but I do agree he will play like an "Oby-Wan" type of role to Harry where he can hear him talk to him or something. We just have to wait two years to see - thats a long time!

Haven't read this posted on this thread but I'm thinking that Harry won't be allowed back at the Dursley's and therefore that "protection" will be gone, adding that tension to the final book.

The protection would have been gone anyway. Harry will turn 17 at the beginning of book 7. He will be an adult in the wizarding world, and Dumbledore said that his protection would expire as soon as he came of age.

Dumbledore also told the Dursleys that they had to allow Harry to spend one more night in their house before he turned 17. Of course they can always say no, but I doubt Petunia will.

I think that, even though she doesn't show it, Aunt Petunia cares about Lily but harbors jealousy of Lily from childhood. I also think that Aunt Petunia knows more than we give her credit for esp. after being in contact w/Dumbledore for who knows how long. And, I think Aunt Petunia has a respect (fear?) for Dumbledore. Finally, I believe Aunt Petunia will follow Dumbledore's orders and allow Harry to return to Privett Drive.

However, the more important question is ... will Harry return to Privett Drive or will he go on his big adventure and not go back?

I have another question about the "Shippers" I think that there may be another round of changes; I have a thought that Harry and Hermoine get together (JK Rowlings loves to use double initials; Servious Snape, M Mogonogil,... etc. I also think that Ron and Luna might end up together, and Neville with Ginney... Support? Rowling... if you remove the vowels... R L NG (RonLuna NevilleGinny)

Luna sings Weasley is our king, Neville took Ginny to the Eule Ball...

Just a thought.....

Hmm... no way. Sorry. I think the OBHWF people have it right. In interview with Emerson and Melissa, the HH shippers are referred to as "delusional."

ES: We thought it was clearer than ever that Harry and Ginny are an item and Ron and Hermione — although we think you made it painfully obvious in the first five books —

JKR: [points to herself and whispers] So do I!

ES: What was that?

JKR: [More loudly] Well so do I! So do I!

[All laugh; Melissa doubles over, hysterical, and may have died.]

ES: Harry/Hermione shippers - delusional!

JKR: Well no, I'm not going to - Emerson, I am not going to say they're delusional! They are still valued members of my readership! I am not going to use the word delusional. I am however, going to say — now I am trusting both of you to do the spoiler thing when you write this up —

[More laughter.]
JKR: I will say, that yes, I personally feel - well it's going to be clear once people have read book six. I mean, that’s it. It’s done, isn’t it? We know. Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy -

[All crack up]

JKR: - hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of “Azkaban,” that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...

But Ron — I had a lot of fun with that in this book. I really enjoyed writing the Ron/Lavender business, and the reason that was enjoyable was Ron up to this point has been quite immature compared to the other two and he kind of needed to make himself worthy of Hermione. Now, that didn't mean necessarily physical experience but he had to grow up emotionally and now he's taken a big step up. Because he's had the meaningless physical experience - let’s face it, his emotions were never deeply engaged with Lavender -

One real shipping question that is left though is whether Ginny will let Harry get away with his heroic lonliness. I gotta think no. I mean, if his power is love, then he can't very well be powerful by distancing himself from those he loves.

That's what I mean. Either Mr. Dursley will prevent it or Harry simply won't go back.

I think Ginny gives Harry just a little rope, but then pulls him back in!

Yeah, I think it's Ginny/Harry too. I think that Ginny's love will save Harry in the end, or Harry's ability to love someone as much as he loves Ginny...

Also, I'd love to know how to pronounce Scrimgeour. I've heard at least 3 different ways and still don't know!
I thought all of us who'd questioned pronunciations would like to know that the HP Pronunciation guide on the Scholastic website has been updated to include various words from Half Blood Prince. You can find it here.

No, Lily was a mudblood because her parents were muggles; however, SHE was a witch. Therefore, both of Harry's parents are magical, and he is a "full wizard". He is not pure-blood though because he cannot trace his lineage back through generations of magic (like Ron can).

I have now found the proof that I was right. Harry is a half-blood, since Lily was a mudblood.

In the Chamber of secrets on page 317:

Tom Riddle (Voldemort) is talking to Harry and says "There are strange likenesses between us, after all. Even you must have noticed. Both half-bloods, orphans, raised by Muggles."

Thank you, thank you, thank you ... as I had originally asked for this! I am heading over there now to get the proper pronunciation! I appreciate the info.!
