Harry Potter Complete Book Spoiler Thread

I was really bummed the way this book turned out. :( How can the rest of this story be wrapped up in just one last book? All the horcruxes, what happens with Snape and Voldemort, what happens to Hogwart's, ............

i seem to be in the minority. i have been a fan of hp since the beginning and dh and i went to the midnight realease party last night and bought 2 copies.

i finished it earlier today and i have to say, i was really disappointed. usually the hp books surprise me and have twists that i never figure out. sadly, i thought this book was WAY too predictable. i thought snape was the hbp on about page 200, when the hbp is first mentioned. no way -- to obvious i thought. :confused3

as for dumbledore dying - again VERY obvious that that was going to happen.

maybe book 7 will be better and will make me feel better about this book, but i have to say, i just didn't think it was as well written as some of the others.

Honestly I was alot more shocked by Harry getting his Professor drunk in order to get the Memory from him than I was by the use of the word slut.

I don't know what to say about this being a "childrens" book. I realize that millions of children are reading this, but the storylines have obviously gone way beyond youth fiction.

Summing up my reactions on this book...

Severus Snape, what HAVE you done?

Finished reading the book about 10 minutes ago...I think the feeling I have that is sort of overshadowing all the other ones is...betrayed. I feel betrayed! Please tell me I'm not the only one. I know Rowling said that Snape will redeem himself but this was just...too much. How could he possibly redeem himself from this?! He Avada Kedavra'd one of the greatest wizards of all time! I burst into tears reading that. I just couldn't believe it. This whole time, I had this really bad feeling it would be Dumbledore that died but I didn't want to believe it. But reading it made it real. I sobbed for a good 5 minutes before I could bring myself to read more. I wasn't too surprised when Harry said he would not be returning to Hogwarts for year 7. It is simply in his nature and I expected it of him. Especially after Dumbledore's death. I think now, more than ever, he feels the need to vindicate the deaths of all those who have been killed by either LV or a Death Eater, including his mom and dad. I couldn't help but get choked up when Ron and Hermoine insisted on accompanying him on what will surely be a dangerous mission. Their friendship is something that he can always count on and I think that brings him more comfort than they can ever possibly know. As for Snape being the half-blood prince. After learning what we learned about him, it made more sense. Snape, under all the sneering self-righteousness, is very insecure. Especially when he was younger. It makes sense that he would want to give himself an important title such as that. A few other notes...I couldn't bite back a grin when Tonks lost it with Lupin. I had this feeling about those two. And when Harry notes that he saw them holding hands at Dumbledore's funeral...well I hope we can assume Lupin got over his doubts :) Poor Bill though! I'm just glad that it wasn't anything life threatening. I don't know that Mrs.Weasley would have been able to afford losing another son. And I say that because it seems pretty obvious to me that Percy still has his head stuck too far up his butt to redeem himself. Stupid, overly ambitious former prefect that he is ;) It makes me a tad bit sad that Harry and Ginny are over before they even started. I can understand why Harry did what he did. And I think his actions speak volumes about his feelings for her. Then there's Ron and Hermione...oh how I rooted for them! I sat through the really squicky moments with Lavender (gag me with a spoon, kid  ) and her moment of madness with whatshisfacewannabequidditchstar. And still they aren't together. But I have high hopes for them in the end! I really cannot wait to see what Rowling has in store for us in book 7. There's so much left to solve, so much that is still up in the air. And then we'll have to face that final battle between good and evil. I can't wait. Overall, I was really pleased with this one.

I think that everyone is forgetting early on in th ebook.

"I make mistakes lik ethe next man. In fact, being - forgive me - rather cleverer than most (annoying b/c this is not proper grammar) my mistakes tend to be correspondingly huger" Dumbledore pg 197

he made a mistake when it came to snape. and it cost him his life.

I just finished and I'm stunned. I don't even know where to begin discussing this book.

In 12 Grimmauld Place there is "a heavy locket that none of them could open" in one of the cabinets. Following the Regulus Black theory, who was the person who sprung to my mind, it would be logical that the real locket and the locket mentioned in the note inside the fake locket were one and the same...

So yeah. Regulus.

Regalus Black?

Oh, I think that's a good guess! Although it would be nice to think that Harry has an ally that's still alive.

Very sad, but yes predictable. Harry has to face LV alone, I think the prophecy kind of spelled that out.

To the Dark Lord

I know I will be dead long before you read this but I want you to know that it was I who discovered your secret. I have stolen the real Horcrux and intend to destroy it as soon as I can. I face death in hope that when you meet your match, you will be mortal once more.

R.A.B.

hmmm, if RAB is Regalus and, I think he is probably dead. That is a good catch about the cabinet. I wonder if Kreacher has the locket? Or maybe Mundugus has pawned it. :rotfl:

For those of you concerned about the tone and the use of the word slut, I have to say that the books have become more mature as Harry has gotten older. There's a big difference between Harry at age 11 (about 5th/6th grade) and Harry at 16 (10th/11th grade).

I prefer to think that Dumbledore knew his death would serve some purpose and that he wasn't simply too trusting. However, from the way that his end was described (his tone was pleading when Snape showed up), I'm almost afraid that he didn't see this coming.

Is it silly that I'm disappointed that Harry won't be going back to Hogwarts next year? I've always wondered what graduation at Hogwarts looked like and it doesn't seem like I'll find out now.

Ah, yes.

Mundungus could have, indeed, sold it. It seems the perfect senario for JKR to write of. Mundungus has probably sold it to one of the worst people imaginable and Harry must find it.

Regalus Black?

Didn't even think that. I was thinking someone from the Bones family.

well i was gonna read the thread but changed my mind ihavent put the book down in over 3 hours so ill be back when im done

Regulus Black is certainly dead. If he were alive, Grimmauld Place and Kreacher would belong to him - being the last male living Black. Since Kreacher did obey Harry - Harry is his owner, therefore there are no living Blacks.

However, this does not mean Regulus didn't write the note - there is no reason to believe that the note is recent. Remember, Voldemort created these Horcruxes 15 years ago - when Regulus would have still been alive.

At least 15 years ago, if not more- he killed his father almost right out of school, didn't he?

Somehow though I get the feeling that RAB is a woman. I don't know why, I just do.

Ok, maybe I'm an idiot, but I'm just...stunned. I just didn't think Dumbledore would die in this book. And to have it be Snape...that..that...I just don't even know what to say.

As for Regulus Black, remember when Sirius was discussing him in OotP ? He said that his parents supported Voldemort, but that they'd backed away a bit when they realized how far he had gone into the Dark Arts. My guess is, Regulus also had a similar epiphany, and was killed after first joining, then trying to back out of the Death Eaters.

So, yes, I believe that it's very plausible that Regulus is "R.A.B."

Just for the record, I'm really glad that this thread was here tonight. I really wanted to share this book with someone, but DW hasn't even started it yet, so I was kinda stuck, particularly after reading that ending. Glad there are quite a few marathon readers out there to share it with. :teeth:

I'm glad too! I started reading it last night after I got my copy and then I finished it earlier today. I don't know what I would have done if no one else read as quickly as I do :rotfl:

I also think there's a good possibility that Regulus is R.A.B. 'Course it could be someone else entirely. I certainly didn't expect Dumbledore would really die or that Snape would be the one to do it. And I don't think anyone expected Snape to be the half blood prince. Rowling is full of surprises.

CRACK!

That was the sound of my heart breaking. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

I just finished. JKR sure packed alot into that 652 pages, even though I'm finished my brain is still processing.
