Harry Potter Complete Book Spoiler Thread

My theory is optimistic still--despite all the tears:

Dumbledore did know about Malfoy's plotting and Snape's promise. His pleading was for Snape to apply the curse, so Draco would not have to do it, to save face in front of the other DE's and to save his family. Dumbledore's faith in Snape will pan out in the end.

Snape IS on the side of good. Not only did he not kill Harry (I know LV wants to do that, but Snape really does hate the son of his old tormentor.) But he also could have killed Hermoine and Luna outside of his office, and did not. He could have killed Hagrid and did not.

Snape has more to him than meets the eye, and Malfoy is lucky to have Snape with him.

But, like everyone, I will have to wait now to see Book 7! So long to wait!!!

Maybe Snape didn't kill them because he wasn't sure if he would have to go with the Death Eaters. He might have thought he wouldn't get caught. The only reason Snape would help Harry is if LV turned against Snape. I think that Dumbledore is really dead. The last book explained how wizard's become ghosts and I think they have to decide that before they die, not sure about the portraits. I think they did talk about it in one book when one of the portraits was slashed and they had to go live in another portrait. I have only read them all once so could probably do with a few rereads.

But if LV is that powerful, wouldn't he be able to know what Snape is thinking anyway? if not then Snape is more powerful? :confused3

It has something to do with the spell they use and being able to close their minds to others.

LV doesn't know what Harry is thinking anymore because he broke the connection because it was letting Harry know what LV was thinking.

Haven't read the whole thread, just finished the book. Did anyone else think the half blood prince was LV?? I never thought it was Snape, and I think that Snape is evil.

I thought the hb prince would be a new character, I NEVER in a million years expected it to be Snape!! & I think Snape is PURE EVIL!!!

Some really interesting theories in this thread. I'm debating with myself right now about what I think, especially about DD's death, Snape & Draco's role, and of course all the relationships.

What about Hogwarts being one of the horcruxes? This is the one place Tom Riddle is tied to and it makes sense that Hogwarts could hold a portion of his soul. Also, this could be a way to conclude book 7, with a battle between Harry & V. Perhaps Hogwarts would be destroyed, then rise up from the ashes (as does the Phoenix) to be made anew, leaving us with the destruction of V and the resurrection of the structure.

I'm just brainstorming here!

I enjoyed the book - found it a bit slow moving in parts but I felt that this was part of the character development, as was "seeing" V's past. I imagine book 7 will have Harry struggling to figure out what V's past has to do with Harry and the ultimate fulfillment of the prophecy.

I felt it was quite a change from the other books. I still feel Neville will play a surprising role in the next book, and who knows what will happen with Draco and Snape. I still can't decide what I think about those two & the end of the book.

I thought this book was awesome! I loved how at the end, Ginny seems to just decide to let Harry think he broke up with her successfully. I don't think she'll stand around and wait for him, do you? :rolleyes1
I was really bawling about Dumbledore even though I knew it would be him (it's very Star Wars as other people have said before). Somehow, Hagrid's grief really got to me. I don't think Dumbledore is really "dead" though the picture on the wall does have me stumped. When he and Harry were coming back from their quest, Harry wants to run and get Madame Pomfrey and Dumbledore is very insistent to the point of being sharp with Harry that it has to be Snape. I really think Snape will sacrifice himself for the cause although I don't know that the relationship between him and Harry will get better. I can't reconcile that one.
It's going to be a long couple of years....

I finished the book last night and am still thinking about it. I'm not sure about Snape. I want to think he is a good guy but one thing I noticed is that several times throughout the book he referred to Voldemort as "The Dark Lord" during DADA classes. I thought only the Death Eaters call him that - am I wrong?

I thought it was a good book but I am wondering how long book 7 is going to have to be to tie up all of these loose ends. It's gonna be a LONG wait!!

I was so sad when I read Dumbledore died.....I was already expecting it but It was so sad! Man the 7th book is gonna be intense.

I know this has been mentioned before, but re: the theory that the final battle between LVand HP will take place at Hogwarts....don't forget that DD is buried on the Hogwarts grounds. A co-worker of mine pointed this out, but I think it may be important.....

Did anyone else feel like Joey on Friends and want to put the book in the freezer when you knew Dumbledore died??

Oh gosh I’m learning so much that I didn’t pick up on!!! Like that the DADA teacher position was cursed and maybe that is why Dumbledore wouldn’t let Snape have it. I never compared Snape to Darth Vader but boy that does make perfect sense. I really think Dumbledore made Snape promise to kill him, just like he made Harry promise to obey him. I’m rooting for Mrs W to get rid of Phlegm! The locket at #12, yeah that went TOTALLy over my head! Black as RAB is incredible, I missed that too!

I have so many random thoughts!! How can Harry kill Voldemort if he’s a horcrux?? What did Snape do to earn Dumbledore’s undying trust?? Why don’t we see more of Tonks and Lupin, I love them!! Why couldn’t Hermoine and Ron snog a little?? Why didn’t the kids think about Snape being the Half Blood Prince, I mean come on he’s obviously a whiz at potions! Do you think Petunia is a wizard and just hiding it? Was anyone else glad that Dobby played a smaller part in this book? I love Ginny, she’s much better than Cho and she won't stand by and let Harry leave her behind. I want to see more of the twins, they crack me up!

I agree the end of this book seemed rushed. I really admire her though, there are so many different threads that seemed so innocent in the first book that she has woven thru each book. I wish I could write like that!!! :wizard:

I finished HBP early this morning, but I'll read it again later for detail. oooh I hate Snape. I'm about 85% sure Dumbledore is dead, and he compelled Snape to do it. Hadn't thought about that "saving" Draco - thank you whoever mentioned it. I know Snape is on the side of good (I think), but he has a sadistic streak a mile wide, like Dolores Umbridge...hopefully in book 7 they both triumph over evil, get married, and then fall into a huge bucket of skrewts.

I actually like Fleur. Somewhat.

This book was so good! I read the whole thing in 6 hours after i got it...it has left alot of mysteries though...come on book 7...am i the only one that thinks book 7 will have to be about 2000 pages to answer all of the questions and tie up loose ends?

Miscellaneous things i am thinking about!

1. Dumbledore talked to harry's aunt and uncle about staying there next summer and how they raised harry...why now? why would he do that now unless he had some idea that he was gong to die or be out of harry's life next summer. Maybe he had another prophecy from professor trelawny we do not know about....

2. Dumbledore introduced himself to petunia and she acted as though they had never met...it makes me think now she really is just a muggle but i think the conversation she overheard between lily and the "awful boy" will be VERY significant in book 7...i am also inclined to believe the boy was not james but someone else...to the poster that asked about Dumbledore's howler that said "Remember my last" that referred to the letter that was delivered with harry when he was left on the doorstep in the first book. JKR has mentioned that Petunia has a bigger connnection to the wizard world than we know.

3. Regarding nonverbal spells, i think they are very important for the future. Harry must get better at them...even though they were just introduced in this book, it does make me wonder how much easier the Death Eaters and Voldy could have defeated the DA in the last book with them....i know it would not have been in tune with the books and how they turned out but it seems that most wizards do not do nonverbal spells...why?

4. JKR has said on many occasions that Hermione's animagus is an otter but she has thus far never changed into one....will we see this in book 7? will any of the other characters transform?

5. I remember reading somewhere or hearing the commentary of POA movie that the director wanted to put the cemetary at hogwarts into the movie but JKR refused. She said the cemetary was in a different place than where he wanted and she could not discuss it because it was going to be significant later as well as who was buried there, possible spouses/family to current instructors would be of significance. I just have a feeling the cemetary will play an important role in book 7..maybe the place of the final battle?

6. I still think there may be some obscure relatives to harry or voldemort that we do not know about yet. JKR reports that James' parents/family will eventually be mentioned but will not play a big part...i guess that will happen when he returns to Godrics Hollow. I have always wondered if Harry and Dumbledore are related in some way...

7. What will the Dursleys say when Ron and Hermione come home with Harry this summer?

8. JKR mentions there is a member of the Order that has been mentioned but not talked about very much. She says that character will have a big role in book 7...any ideas? I need to reread book 5 and 6 and make a list of the known members...

9. Harry remarks that the locket he finds near dumbledore looks different that it did in the cave before he grabbed it...does this mean it was switched with a dummy locket sometime between the cave and when harry found dumbledore's body? Or was the locket just enchanted in the cave to look like the original...i do believe the horcrux is the locket at 12 grimmould place and that mundungus has sold it to someone! I also think Kreacher might play a part in finding a missing horcrux...

10. I also think that there is alot of history between snape and dumbledore that will finally be revealed in book 7. I truly think snape is ultimately good and killed dumbledore to get closer to voldy and because dumbledore ordered him to. I think they also may be related or something. Some other event has led dumbledore to trust snape beyond any doubts....also dumbledore's hand injury has never fully been explained except that his hand had to die in order to get the ring off and thus break the horcrux... i think dumbledore finally made snape the DADA this year in order to teach harry and others more spells they will need against voldemort and to make it appear he was "slipping up"...dumbledor may have left alot of info for harry in his pensieve as well to guide him...we have seen in this book how powerful snape really is...he may have to help harry in book 7.

11. I also think neville may play a big part in the end. i was also disappointed to see him play such a small role in this book. It would be ironic if neville ended up saving harry from voldemort at the end, such as saving him from a death curse....

i have way too much time on my hands... :wizard: accio bed!

First of all Hermione isn't an animagus, her Patronus is an otter. You only call on them for help with Dementors or as messengers.:)

Also, Harry was remembering how the locket looked when he saw it in Dumbledore's office, not at the lakeside.

:rotfl: :rotfl:

and every time I see "LV" I think Louis Vuitton...not Lord Voldemort for some reason.

heheheh

OOOOHHHHHH I just had a thought. Dumbledore has said many, many time that he trusts Hagrid with is life, could there be something there, polyjuice potion perhaps (although I think Dumbledore is dead really, just something to think about).

JKR said this in an interview over the weekend:

Robert Dawson for Asda - If you were an animagus, what would you like to be?

JK Rowling: This always amuses me, this idea. You see, you do not know what you are going to be until you have done it, so you might spend half a decade trying to turn into an animal and then find out you were a slug or something, which would be most unpleasant.

I gave Hermione my favourite animal, which is an otter. If you wanted to be something impressive, you would probably be something like a stag or a tiger, would you not? I just suspect I might be a guinea pig or something, which would be so embarrassing.

I can't wait for book 7!!

I had a dream last night that Harry's scar was actually a horcrux and not a real scar. I dreamt that LV wanted a child to train-up like him, chose Harry from the prophesy (if you can't beat 'em, join 'em sort of thing), killed his parents because he wanted the boy to grow up without love, and then wanted to leave part of his soul in Harry. Since I read in HBP that Slug told LV aka Tom Riddle that no one knows the consequence of putting your soul into a living thing and Tom had already but part of his soul in Nagini but that was a snake...in my dream, LV put part of his soul in Harry but it backfired on LV and rendered him almost dead. Remember NO ONE has ever survived the killing curse - perhaps Voldy wasn't trying to "kill" baby Harry.

Weird dream, huh?

I like the idea of the scar being a horcrux, it would make sense, Harry being able to see into Voldemort's thoughts and all

My daughter came to me last night with her heart broken and crying. I felt so bad for her. I guess I have to read it now to find out why dumbledore was killed off. :(

I've been thinking that HP can't be a horcrux because DD told HP that LV couldn't inhabit HP because LV couldn't co-exist with HP's whole sole including HP's ability to love...also, remember in Book 1, Quirrell/LV's reaction to touching HP?

I like the idea of Hogwarts as a horcrux because of its importance to Riddle. If that's true, it will be the last horcrux to be defeated in Book 7 during the final battle.
