Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince!

Did Lord Voldemort kill Harry's grandparents as well? I just started reading Order of the Phoenix and Sirius mentioned how the Potters took him in after he ran away.

I don't think it's Lockheart because of what JK says about him , that's he's pretty much a one act character and she's taken it just about as far it can go.

I see the point for GG but I think he was just saying he belonged there not that he was an heir but who knows lol I could be completely wrong. It happens a lot! lol

Random thoughts... sorry, long post

Harry would be a pure blood even though his mother came from a muggle family, she was still a witch, so both parents were magical.

In OoTP Bellatix calls Harry a Half-Blood. And Harry says that Voldemort is a Half-blood also.

Okay, but I guess I'm confused as to how Harry is half-blood when both parents were magical. Voldemort's father was a muggle so that makes since.

Well - it WAS a darker book...only right for the movie to follow the book.

and from what I was told...they couldn't get the same castle for this 3rd movie...that's why it took a while to get used to. (couldn't get the castle? seriously - how much money is the HP series worth?)

I didn't feel the earth tones of this movie conveyed the "darker" tone of the book. Just felt washed out to me, IMHO.

A few thoughts/comments from a HP addict:

We don't know anything about Harry's family aside from Lily and James. She hasn't gone into any of his family history yet. I would love to know more about his grandparents, etc.

Do squibs go to Hogwarts? What if part of Aunt Petunia's problem with Lily is that she (Petunia) is actually a squib? That would mean maybe Dudley is a squib too. He was able to feel the dementor...but I guess so would a muggle.

As far as the movie goes, I loved it at first but then as it settled in I was disappointed with all the major parts that were left out. I was also disappointed with the liberties Cuaron took. A lot could have been included if he hadn't had Harry take a ride on Buckbeak (granted the graphics were cool).

1.) I am SUCH a HUGE Harry Potter fan that I dont share that w/ most people because they will think me crazy or just the big nerd that I am.

2.) I did not like that 3rd movie much. It was too fast, they left too much out. I dont understand how someone who has not read the books would have understood the movie at all. They never even explained what the chocolate was for or about.

3.) I have the first book but from there on I bought the Audio books. The guy who reads them, Jim Dale is awesome. You have to hear the way he makes the characters come alive. I really dont know how many time I have heard them all..HP4 my favorite. The part where You Know Who come back is just the best!! Go rent them from the library and I guarentee you, you will go buy them.

4.) I also think Draco will flip sides OR someone from the "good" side will turn.

A few more thoughts:

1 - Wow...I hadn't made the connection with Godric Gryffindor, but now that it's mentioned, can I change my vote ? :) That very much seems like an avenue that would work in this story.

2 - I forgot about the chocolate thing...You're right, they never did say much about it.

3 - THEY COULDN"T GET THE SAME CASTLE !?! The freakin' movies have made something like a billion dollars, but they couldn't get the same castle ?

4 - I also have to mention that I do not care for the guy they got to play Dumbledore. I know that his death made the change necessary, but couldn't they have got someone more like Ian Mckellen to play the part ? This guy comes off like an all-knowing and nearly all-powerful wizard about as well as Jim Carrey would

I posted this on another thread too, but wanted wvrevy's take (any everyone else's too!!):

I finished rereading GoF last night and will be starting on OotP again tonight. I just wanted to know what you all thought about Dumbledore. I have some misgivings about him. I can't put my finger on it, but something makes me wonder about him. The last two books he's a bit different. Plus, that one line in GoF (when Harry has just explained to Dumbledore that Voldemort can now touch Harry, his mother's sacrifice can't protect him any more)where Harry thinks for a moment he saw a look of triumph on Dumbledore's face. That always gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Anyone else think Dumbledore and Voldemort are connected in some way? Other than just being your average run of the mill enemies?

He...he...he... I was just thinking this morning... I wonder if Dumbledore is the HBP

I think Dumbledore explains what his problem has been at the end of OotP...He looks at Harry almost like a son, and as any parent would, he dreads the idea of his son growing up too soon. I think the look in his eye when Harry mentioned Voldy touching him was realization...The realization that Harry and Voldy were connected more intimately than he had thought by what happened the night Harry's parents were killed. Dumbledore at the end of OotP was exactly as he'd been before, but was now looking upon Harry as more of an adult, if not an equal.

I can't believe how much I love these books  Don't get me wrong, I read a lot of fantasy, so this isn't like it's completely new to me. But I've never read anything in which I got so tied up in the story, and I'd never read a book two times in succession before this series (well, there was that time with Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut, but that was 'cause the darn thing was so friggin' confusing you have to read it twice to catch all the nuances :hyper).

Have any of you that are reading this series ever read "Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card ? If you like what JK Rowling does with a fantasy setting, I think you'd probably like what Card does with Ender....

In OoTP I think she writes Dumbledore to really show his love for Harry and how he wanted to protect him. He even shed a tear!

I do think Dumbledore knows more than he has told Harry so far.

Does anyone think Dumbledore could be related to Harry? Could be why we don't know anything else about Harry's relatives. I wonder why Harry has never asked about other relatives? Especially why he didn't ask Sirius when Sirius mentioned living with James and his family when he ran away from home.

Read Ender's Game and quite frankly, didn't like it at all. I normally don't have a hard time with suspending the disbelief in a fantasy book, but I just couldn't with this one. Dunno why...:confused3

I can't wait to get home and dive into OotP tonight...I'm going to pay special attention to Dumbledore and Harry's interactions. I just have a funny feeling about them. I'll reserve opinion though until I've reread it. (I think I've avoided reading it again because I don't want to relive the ending. My heart just about broke for Harry).

Jenn Lynn: I was wondering if Dumbledore was related to Voldemort...in perhaps a grandfatherly fashion or something...

You know, I have had discussions with friends regarding Dumbledore being related to Harry, and they all disagree - they do not believe that Harry is related at all. I just think that after Lily and James were killed, he took it upon himself to take care of Harry - as in, make sure he was safe (which at the time was with his Aunt and Uncle). I feel the say way about McGonagle - even though she can be strict, she always seems to have a soft spot for Harry.

After the ending to OOTP, poor Harry - I felt so sorry for him. All he wanted was answers, and he wasn't getting any. He felt betrayed - especially by Dumbledore. I do think that Dumbledore hasn't told Harry everything yet - I don't know why, but I also have this suspicion that he is hiding something. What, I am not sure - just a feeling I have.

I am trying to so hard to read POA fast so I can re-read GOF. I always seem to pick up more the second time around.

Dumbledore definitely knows more that what he's telling Harry, even at the end of OotP.

I'm still wondering if Dumbledore isn't the HBP - one, because he's the only wizard that Voldemort fears. In OotP this is pretty apparent. I think Dumbledore can somehow sense or forsee the future which is why he always seems one step ahead.

Two, we don't know anything about Dumbledore other than he has a brother and that he's by far the greatest wizard around. So he could be a half-blood. Who knows.

If he is the HBP, this kind of gives me a hint that Dumbledore and Voldemort will have a big battle somewhere in book 6 or 7. I think Voldemort fears Dumbledore because he is the only one that stands in the way of Voldemort's domination and that Dumbledore knows Voldemort's weakness, which hasn't been fully explained or mentioned yet.

Hmmm... my brain's really moving around now! Time to go read Chamber again.:teeth:

Does it also matter who your ancestors are and not just your parents?

Does it also matter who your ancestors are and not just your parents

Yes it does!(imho)

The way *I* look at the whole mud blood/half blood thing is to relate it to racism. It is obvious that voldie has some hitler like issues and that the "pure bloods" seem sorta like the white supremists. So one muggle in your family line would make you NOT pure......

kinda eluded to when Sirus tells Harry that almost all of the Pure bloods are related...

Course we don’t know all of the witch and wizard history so who’s to say it didn’t all start from a muggle but I think that’s just carring this whole HP thing a bit far! LOL

Of course this is just my theory...I could totally be wrong!

I was thinking about this at work today and I thought that the HBP is Seamus Finnigan. Like WhenUwishUponAstar said, I remember how he announced that he was a half blood in The Sorcerer's Stone. :)

I was reading the a HP message board that someone posted a link to.

One of the topic of discussion was about Mark Evans. Will he be related to Harry? Will he go to Hogwarts (he will be 11 in the next book)? IF he is realted to Harry, HOW are they related? What will be his significance in the next 2 books?

There were a lot of theories ont here. Does anyone here have any guesses/speculation?

Yay! I was freaking out on her site because I could figure out how to get to the speical little door with the clues in it. Love the title though.

Who do I think it is? Complicated question. I've had quite a few theories from the clues and other stuff that JK had mentioned. First, I said Lupin, because she mentioned him becoming a bigger part and him also being a 'half-breed' . Then, I knocked that down when I heard there were clues in CoS....So, then I said Lockhart... but now.. I think Neville too.... So, its between Lockhart and Neville.
