Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince!

Thanks so much for sharing the info -- the website is very cool. But I am so stupid -- where did you find the news about the title?

I wonder if Emma Thompson will be in the next movie. Wasn't she great?

At the JKR site, find the portkey...it looks like a black ring. It will take you to a room with a door. Open the door. Find the dark bricks by clicking around; there are 5 of them. Remember where they are...3,4,2,5,1 top to bottom left to right. Once inside, you will need a breeze.

Yeah, I was really disappointed in PoA. There were just SO many important points that didn't get covered. They barely even touched on the friendship between Harry's dad, Sirius, and Moony...didn't explain at ALL abouth "Padfoot, Wormtail, Moony, and Prongs"...which was fine because they barely even showed Harry's patronus as being a stag, anyway....They hardly touched on the fight between Ron and Hermione, so when she "demanded" an apology when they found Scabbers it was like, "Um...what is he supposed to be apologizing for ?"...

I kept thinking all through the movie, "WHEN is someone going to ask Lupin how he knows that piece of paper is a map and how he knows how to work it?" At the end when Harry was talking to him before he left, I kept thinking, "NOW! Now he'll ask him!" Never did. No backstory on the animagi, nothing. And the way they dismissed that Hermione/Ron fight was annoying too. I had to go back and read PoA to feel satisfied. And no Pigwidgeon or letter of permission for Hogsmeade for Harry either. *sigh*

Awesome ! I needed some good HP news to distract me from the hatchet job Cuaron did on the 3rd movie :)

Yes ! The animagi thing really bugged me...I don't think they even mentioned that Harry's dad was an animagi, much less that the three of them (Prongs, Wormtail, and Padfoot) used to change to keep Lupin company on his monthly...um...trips :)

So, without that info, how do they explain the hatred Snape had for Harry's father ? Do they just say "Oh, by the way, back when your Dad was an animagus, he used to...." ? I mean, if you hadn't read the book, would you really know what was going on by the end of PoA ?

Just really bugged me to see a book as good as that one completely torn apart for the sake of brevity. Reminded me of a lot of Stephen King books and how bad they were as films. I don't know if I could stand seeing Goblet of Fire (one of my favorite books period, let alone just in the HP series)...Might have to wait for the reviews of other fans before going to see that one :)

cliff's notes version

And I also think Neville will be the 'half blood prince'...alot of speculation in book 5 between him and harry...could be very interesting!

Here's hoping this book is as long as GOF and OOTP!!! Love a good looooooooooooooong book!

Thanks Sirius! I kept getting distracted by that fly!

And I agree Maleficent -- the map was one of the most fun things in the book and I couldn't believe how they glossed over it.

Now that I think of it though

Is Neville even a half blood??

I thought he was pure-blood?

hmmmmmmmmmmm

:scratchin

SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ Order of the Phoenix

Neville's parents aren't dead....They were driven insane by the Crutiatus curse...Tortured until they lost their minds....They are still alive, but stay in the hospital...

I don't think the "Half Blood Prince" is Neville........I think it's gonna be Hagrid ::yes:: Other than Voldy, he's the only other "half blood" I can think of that's a male (and a major character).

I just read about this yesterday at Mugglenet!! I'm so excited!

Although I liked the movie and will go see it a second time, there is a small part of me that is dissapointed in it. They sure did a hatchet job of the book. Whoever said Cliff notes was right on. Though I thought it was beauitfully made, they glossed over way too much. So make it another half hour long and fill us in!

I wonder how long until the book comes out. It's only been a year since OOTP. I'll bet it'll be another 6 months to a year atleast.

Hmmm, now, the half blood prince.... I'm not sure if Neville is half blood or not, but it makes sense. Would it be, Snape? He's a half blood, isn't he? But, I don't see him being a prince. Harry was a half blood though, wasn't he? But we don't have all the facts about his past... I just don't know?

thanks for clearing that up:)

as for the HBP i think it will be a new character:confused:

I'm in the minority here, but I loved the movie POA! I do understand they really chopped it, but IMO, the movie was for fans of the books, so therefore you knew the backstories from the book. I thought the movie was beautifully done. I, too, wished they could have explained the map a bit more and Prongs as well.

I liked the movie too although I was disappointed about some of the missing parts too. But I'm reserving my final judgement until I see the movie again (hopefully tomorrow on Imax!). Of course, I had really high expectations too, so it's always hard to measure up to those too.

To answer whomever asked, Harry is full-blooded. Both parents were magical.

I had never thought of Hagrid, but there was never any mention of his father being a wizard (his mother was the giant half). But Hagrid did attend Hogwarts until the unfortunate Riddle incident, so he is magical. Of course, so is Hermione, and she has 2 muggle parents.

It's very interesting to speculate. I see big things for Neville in the future, but not sure what they are. I'd love to see his parents have their minds returned to them if/when Voldemort is defeated.

Still wonder about Draco's role. I don't think he's the HBP, but do think something big happens with him.

Umm...Who said that "Half Blood" means "Half wizard, half muggle" ? Hagrid is HALF GIANT, remember ?

As for other speculation:

I don't know if anything major will happen with Neville, though I have a sneaking suspicion that he's going to end up being a very important wizard...possibly even taking Fudge's spot some day (just a guess).

I think Draco will end up either getting killed by Hermione or flipping sides at the last minute and helping defeat Voldemort.

I've got theories on where the other characters end up, as well, but I'll get into those later. :)

I think Draco flips sides. I posted this theory in another thread a long time ago. I think he ends up being in the right place at the right time and gets the credit for defeating Voldemort, which is fine with Harry as it gives him the opportunity to be a "normal" guy. Just my thoughts, anyway.

But I like the thought of Hermione finally giving him what for!

Anyone else ever think that Draco's apparent revulsion for Hermione is really barely suppressed attraction (not that even he would recognize it)? I think that all the time.

If Draco turned out to be half blood - by some freak of nature - I think he would kill himself. (although I doubt he is...being that Harry saw the whole family tree during OOTP)

Going back to the POA movie...DH and I went and saw it last weekend. (My second time, his first). I noticed alot more things in the movie - but the same 'issues' irked me.

DH, having never read ANY of the books really enjoyed the movie.

So I guess just us who have read the books stand to be a wee-bit disappointed. (I never read the books until after I saw the first 2 movies...of which I thought were brilliant!)
