The last time we were at Disney, we booked my DD at BBB. I wasn't going to do it again, but I've succumbed since my hubby missed out on our last trip and didn't see it in person. But now I'm having second thoughts after reading about the Harmony Barber Shop. I know first haircuts is their big thing, but do they also do hairdos rather than just cuts? If so, anyone know the pricing for it? It's gotta be cheaper than BBB! I also saw they do colored gels and pixie dust. My DD would LOVE that! How long does the gel last and does it rub off on everything? After BBB, that hairdo held for at least a couple of days and the pixie dust really lasted. Is it best to get there first thing in the morning since they don't seem to take appts? Any other tips for this place?

Thanks!

1- Not "real" hairstyling, but some simple "nutty stuff."

2- They have stopped doing colored gel at this time (unless I missed something.)

3- You can do that but-
They DO take phone appointments.

Yep. Call the dining reservation line (go figure) for an appointment.

They will do just hairstyles (but it's crazy ponytails - not princess buns) without a cut. With cut, gel, pixie dust and tip we were out of there for less than $25.

They currently don't do the colored hair gel, but you can still get the crazy hair with clear gel and pixie dust. The gel did take forever to dry and rubbed off on everything while it was wet.

You can make ressies but I believe the you have to call, you can't do online.

My daughter loved the experience and for the money we would do it again (just with the clear gel and pixie dust)

:thumbsup2 Our granddaughter had her first haircut there last year. We called the dining line and they take your credit card # to hold the reservation. I don't remember what their policy was on canceling, probably have to give 24 hour notice.

We had a 9:30 reservation and still had a bit of a wait. Got a lot of great pics, though!

When they had the colored gel and pixie dust it was $7.50 plus tip. I am pretty sure that you need cash for the tip.

The guest could pick from either one or two funky ponytails. DD got one and we put one of the small princess crowns in when they were finnished. It was really cute. We did not get her hair cut, only gel and pixie dust.

I would assume the price would be the same since they don't have color gel, I could not see them raising the price, but is Disney, so who knows lol.

We will be doing it again, as DD has been talking about it since last time. She was so sad when I told her there was no more color gel  I thought she was going to cry. She is 7.

What?! When did that stop?

It has been a big discussion on the DIS here recently-

No colored gel at Harmony Barbershop!
Oh no! I am here right now and there is no colored hair gel! I was told by Rae Ann that they just stopped on Sunday because the company no longer makes it.

I was at HBS a few days ago and I asked about this.

The company manufacturing the gel shut down their production.

Disney tried other brands, but found either they were very runny and would not hold (needed a hair dryer) or they had a tendency to stain clothing items. So a decision was made by Disney to discontinue this unless they can find a satisfactory replacement.

The pixie dust at Harmony is not the same as BBB. They use glitter at BBB, but at Harmony it's large pieces of shiny confetti. They use the shiny Mickey heads that they put on the tables at the Crystal Palace and what seems to be the leftover scraps from that paper (the part leftover after punching out the Mickey heads). My sons had haircuts here this past August and my daughter had pixie dust put in her hair. I prefer the BBB version of pixie dust. This one just looks messy in my opinion.

One important thing to remember at the MK Barber Shop. When they removed the old antique cash register and put in a terminal to allow use of credit cards and hotel charges and the like they hooked into The Emporium's network. The register, unlike ones in table service restaurants, cannot handle tips as part of the transaction.

So if you are planning on using the Harmony Barber Shop please be aware that if you are using any sort of card you cannot add a tip on the card and should have cash available for tipping.

We were there on Wednesday to get my youngest DS's 1st haircut and my 2 oldest DS's hair cut. We made an appointment through the dining reservation number. Idk about the gel, but they did put "Pirate Dust" in my 2 oldest DS's hair and it was free. Here's a picture of it:

It's not the clearest picture, but you get the idea. Also, as a PP said, bring cash for a tip!!! My DH had to run to the closest ATM to take out cash for them. Our appt was at 9am and it was pretty empty in there. So walking in, in the morning is probably best. But I would still make an appt. The Pirate Dust fell out pretty quickly but we didn't have them use gel. I believe the cost for the regular haircut was $15, I have to ask DH to be sure tho.

My DS has only had his hair cut at HBS. We used to make appts, but now we just go first thing in the morning. We usually put our name on the list and then hang out outside and play with the CMs (usually have jump ropes, hopscotch, etc) out until our name is called. It's usually no more than a 20-25 min wait at the longest!
