Hard Rock or Royal Pacific?

OK - so I'll be down in Orlando for a conference next month and have the option of staying at either the Hard Rock or the Royal Pacific for a week.

Which one is best and why?

Price is within $20 per night difference, so that's not really a factor.

My wife is joining me on Thursday night for the weekend, so which is more romantic?

Any info is much appreciated.

We have stayed at both. Personally, I liked both for different reasons. My husband, however, HATED RPR. He didn't like the dark colors of the room, became extremely claustrophobic (unusual for him) to the point of tossing his cookies. We couldn't open the windows (not the type you can open) and the room was very hot (the "self controlled" thermostats didn't seem to be operating). The kids enjoyed both pools each time we were there, but the missed the slide at RPR. This year, we will be going back to HRH.

I personally couldn't tell you which one is more romantic, since we always have our children with us, but as a family we ALL liked the HRH better.

My family was miffed that I had booked HRH instead of RPR this year, and now, they don't want to go anywhere else.

The pool area is beautiful and large -you and your wife could rent a cabana and that would be very romantic in my opinion.

It has a very happy and upbeat atmosphere without being loud and over the top.

That is of course, my opinion, but I'll go a step further and agree with the previous poster - I did not care for the rooms at RPR at all - too dark and too small. Otherwise, a really nice resort.

I have only stayed a RPR. I thought the room and pool were nice, but the food was consistantly overpriced and not very good. JMHO.

Only stayed at HRH, loved it. Beautiful pool area and common grounds of hotel. It was fun exploring the hotel and seeing their extensive collection of rock-related memorabilia. The location is excellent, either boat or very short walk to parks & Citywalk.

We were underwhelmed with the dining facilities. The Kitchen was sub-par for dinner (think a subdued, Hard Rock Cafe). Other than a huge breakfast buffet, there was no where other than the convenience store to grab a lite, quick breakfast.

Have a great "business" trip.

I have stayed at both the HRH and the RPR. I like them both, but prefer the RPR. It is more laid back and the setting is beautiful. I think it is more romantic than the HRH. They both are an easy walk to the parks and City Walk. Emerils Tchoup Chop at the RPR would make a great place for a supurb, romantic dinner.

I would recommend HRH if your under say 50 years old. It's very hip, closer to the parks, has a great ice cream place and you'll have a CD player in your room for some romantic music if you want.

If your conference is at RPR though I would stay there unless you have a car to drive from HRH to RPR. I had a conference at RPR and drove over from HRH every morning, it worked out great. The walk was a little too long for me at 7:30am.

RPR is nice, but my family prefers HRH. We will also stay HRH if the price is within $25 of RPR. It all depends on your family's personal style. You cannot go wrong with either, however.

I'd have to say that RPR's South Seas/Bali theme is more romantic than the Rock'n'Roll Hotel California theme.

I prefer RPR to HRH for what you are looking for. I like HRH but do not consider it romantic. RPR has a feel about it especially in the evening that is romantic. It has a tropical paradise feel. The pool is larger and in my opinion nicer than at HRH. I do prefer the cabanas at HRH but you can pool hop and do that one day if you liked. The walkways and gardens at RPR have an exotic feel and are beautiful making the wark to the parks a pleasure. The rooms are smaller but quite comfortable for 2.

Food choices at RPR surpass HRH as well. Tchoup Chop is the most romantic restaurant on all of Universal's property. Jakes is a great place for a relaxed meal with creative cocktails. In the morning having coffee before the parks in the Orchid Court with its open air courtyard exhibiting all the different orchids is just beautiful.

Yes, overall I totally love the feel of RPR especially for romance!

I too prefer HRH to RPR -- $20 more is definitely worth it. Yet if you really want a "romantic" place then RPR may be the better choice as the resort is quieter, the walkways are dark and intimate -- heck, even the rooms are dark and intimate.

Then again, if you're a music fan do consider that HRH will give you a free compilation CD at check-in, it is a shorter walk to the parks (yes, even a shorter walk to IOA).

However, if the conference is at RPR itself, then that would be the more convenient choice as it would be quite the haul to go from HRH to RPR (either a 15-20 minute walk or a pair of boat rides).

I think I have settled on HRH because I got a pretty decent rate on a Deluxe King Room and I am a HUGE music fan.

DW arrives Thurdsday and then we move to Celebration for the weekend - we can stroll on over to Royal Pacific when she arrives.

We'll see how this compares with our normal "home" in WDW.
