Hello everyone and welcome to my first trip report! The players are: Me Nicole, my boyfriend Kevin, my best friend Linda, her husband Mike, their two teen aged kids, and, for one day, another gal Natalie, who we used to work with at the Disney Store and her husband Josh. Kevin and I live in SF and, for those of you who know me, we have a fierce chihuahua named Daisy. We needed to take "the D" to Kevin's parent's house so we made the trek to SACRAMENTO at about 5:30am on Monday morning. Daisy just looked at us like "what the hay?" Dropped her off with tears in my eyes (she's my baby) and headed out at about 9:00 after a stop at McDonalds (my man does treat me right).
It is a straight shot down 5 and we really encountered no problems. We stopped at Foster's Freeze for an ice cream and were totally grossed out by the rancid oil smell coming out of the drive thru window, ew! Thank goodness we only had ice cream! Anyway, only a small amount of traffic and we pulled in to the Candy Cane Inn at about 4:30pm. I wasn't going to mention it but Kevin saw the Matterhorn first...I was driving for pete's sake...!
We hit the pool and the hot tub and then decided to hit Downtown Disney for some food...we were meeting Linda and family at 10:00pm for our birthday drinks. Ended up having gumbo and jambalaya at the pick up window at Brennan's...very good! While we were eating we asked a security guard CM if the walkway was open all night so we could get back to our hotel...he was hilarious and said no, we needed to go ALL the way around...blah...blah! Very funny! He also informed us of a special showing of the fireworks on Tuesday night so I asked him if the special occasion was my birthday and of course he said yes...even "checked" on his walkie talkie! I was happy because I was sure I'd never get to see them live!
We met Linda and her family at 10:00 and found that her kids would not be joining us since the Lounge at the Grand Californian doesn't serve food so no kids...we then proceeded to try just about every martini they had! Our waitress was great and gave us each a birthday button and the fun ensued! The Lounge closed at 12:30 so Kevin and I headed back to our hotel after spending about 30-45 minutes looking for my brick in the walkway between DCA and Disneyland...hard to do when you've had about 4 martinis! Got back to the room and crashed...had to get some sleep since we were all meeting up at 10:00am the next day!
