Happy Birthday to Joe, May 2011. . Trip Report Link

Congrats on fitting in the white skirt!

I need to get my to do list together. Caitlin messed up all my plans and I've spent the last few days rearranging everything. I am one adr away from having everything I want.

There are 2 different kind of iron on sheets you can buy. One kind is for use on light colored Ts only. These you have to print in mirror image (should be a choice in page set up). These sheets transfer the ink to the T.

The other type of iron on sheets are labeled for dark Ts but you can use them on any shirt. These are like a sheet of plastic that you print on WITHOUT making them iron on. You cut out the design and then pull the paper off, put the "plastic sheet" on the T, cover with parchment paper and iron on. From looking at photos I think this is the kind Mary Ellen uses.

A couple of simple hints....wash the T and dry without fabric softener before ironing the design on.

If you use the sheets for dark T's you need to be careful with trimming because everything you don't trim will be white on the T.

:wizard:Good luck!
Thanks, I got the light version and white Ts but I cant find a way flip it. I didnt make the design, someone on creative group did it for me.

Yah for mickey mail!
Dont beat yourself up for friendlies. You should be proud of what you accomplished already! Katie needed the mommy and me time too:cutie: bonding over friendlies(MMM)
I got inspired so I am making Tshirts but the transfer kind. Tips?? I got them at target but I got one per kid so I hope I dont screw them up. I am going to surprise them when we get there with personalized shirts. I am also going to make a tote bag.
Good list, lots done. I have a love/hate with this time when you have done so much most things now need to wait until the end.

Well I have to say that when I was refolding things to start packing, I realized that my transfers are not looking that good. The white mickeys I am keeping, but I actually peeled off the transfers that I did on the red shirts. I learned after I did mine that I should have washed the shirts first. So today after peeling off the loose transfers this morning, I washed the shirts and bought newer transfer sheets (i'd purchased the others some time ago on clearance). sooooo we'll see how they turn out. Let me know how yours come out when you do them! Second time around I put aluminum foil behind the tee and ironed the tee first, then did the iron on, to smooth and warm up the tee first.

I love the tote bag idea. I would just be afraid that i'd be the one to end up carrying yet another thing!:rotfl:

Last week was a Daddy Daughter dance with Brownies, with a Fairyland Ball theme. Naturally I had to get crafty.

Katie and I baked Fairy cookies....sadly I guess I forgot to take pictures. :scratchinThey were pastel colored meringue cookies. fun and easy to make, and a hit with the kids.

We also made our own fairy wings. :tinker:I found some directions online and used four wire hangars and a pair of white pantyhose. who knew that white pantyhose were hard to find? but in the end I lucked out finding a pair that were off-white and only $2.49 ( was not keen on spending $5 on pantyhose that I would cut!)

After we shaped our wings & covered them in nylongs, Katie drew designs on them & then I added glitter glue to the edge of the wings and some decorations in them. I did take pictures, so here is a close up of the wings, and then Katie and Daddy ready for the dance.

They had a lot of fun, and Katie danced all night. They left the dance about 1/2 hour before it ended because Katie feet 'were killing' her. LOL DH said "you are just like mommy":lmao:

Speaking of getting crafty

I finished my portable Disney planner today. YIPPEEE. I basically took the highlights of my bigger planner and put them into a smaller book to go into my park bag. Then i can cross off the rides and shows we've actually seen and know what else to do next.

I glued Mickey confetti (thanks Jen!!!) to the cover to help decorate it more Mickey and less valentines day..

5602785827_876136c51c.jpg

I started putting some clothing into suit cases today..yeah... I have no doubt that I will take them out and put them in a half dozen more times before I am finally packed. i have to get the spacing figured out!
:rotfl:
I also realized as I went to pack them is that my iron on shirts were not going to hold up. The transfers were peeling like crazy, so I finally just peeled them all. Tonight I went out and bought more (newer) transfers specially for dark colors s we will see how they turn out for round two.

I also picked up new tie dye colors - I had a few colors but of course Katie wants black on here. Very happy that I found a set that has black blue, turquoise, red and pink. a little something for everyone!

I think tie dye is on tomorrows agenda if i am not too tired from the girl scout Easter egg event tomorrow.

Don't forget when you dry the t-shirts, don't use fabric softner. It will prevent the iron-on transfer from sticking. I can't wait to see the tye dyed shirts. Katie looked adorable for her dance. Love the wings.

I love the Fairy wings! You did such a great job on them.

Katie looks so grown up. It's hard to believe she is only about a year older than Caitlin.

Need technical help- since you did Tshirts, can you tell me HOW do I flip my image so words are not backwards?

My printer didn't have the "mirror print" option but I flipped it using photo shop. I think that you can do the same thing using the Microsoft Photo view (I may have the name wrong but its the program that opens images by default. ) try to edit the photo and just use "flip horizontal" and that should do it.

I'm sure the minimum is the same if you get the card at the park.

Didn't think of the discount as I always have an AP too but I never even thought you'd get a discount with the "rewards" card I thought you only got it with the actual Visa card.

It's been a while since I used the Disney Visa for merchandise discount. Can you use it everywhere? I thought it was at World of Disney at DTD that gave the discount. I also thought you had to spend $50 go the discount.:confused3---I just looked it up---you can use Visa or rewards card and looks like you can use it at more than World of Disney but still need the $50 minimum.

Don't forget about the Meet & Greet at Epcot. I would try getting there a few minutes before it starts. They let in one family at a time and let you stay as long as you want so it is a great experience but the line moves slow.
reading that list of "fine print" makes me wonder exactly what you can buy for the discount?:confused3

That is cool about the meet and greet. I knew there was one but did not know about the one family at a time. :cutie:

:wizard:Good luck!

I bought a new pack of transfers yesterday - the dark fabric ones that you print then cover with parchment to iron on. they came out really nice. I added sparkles to mine & Katie's so will take new pics when the sparkles are dry. :goodvibes

Congrats on fitting in the white skirt!

mmm that does not sound good. how did she mess up your plans? i will be over in a minute to see what you've posted. I am so far behind!
Thanks, I got the light version and white Ts but I cant find a way flip it. I didnt make the design, someone on creative group did it for me.
(I posted up above - use Flip Horizontal in your image editor. Not sure if you can do it in word or not. )

thanks! I did remember to just air dry the tee-s because i have one of those dryer bars in my dryer. I am anxious to see the tye dies. I did them tonight & will put them in the washer tomorrow night.
I love the Fairy wings! You did such a great job on them.

Katie looks so grown up. It's hard to believe she is only about a year older than Caitlin.
Her daddy is 6'4" and she will definitely tower over me by the time she's a teen. :rotfl2:

Katie is so cute, What a nice father daughter night! The wings look great.
THanks for the tip about photoshop. I did email the images to my home desk top since it has photoshop on it.
Glad your new transfers came out great!

Oh good, glad it worked! Yeah, they had fun at the dance.

I just wrote up my transfers & tie dye projects to post. doing that next. How's your trip planning? I will have to try to sneak over before bed but its getting late for me.

Just a quick update - my brain hurts from a crazy day at work plus finishing up my state and local taxes tonight (nothing like waiting til the last minute I always say!!)

I wanted to share photos of our tie dye shirts, plus the re-dos of my iron on shirts.

First - the transfers:

the transfers I did first were called Transfermations Design & Iron. they were awful. As I was folding our vacation clothing this weekend I saw just how awful they were. I peeled off the transfers to re do.

The new transfers I bought were Jolee's Easy Image. I did buy the ones for darker clothing since we were doing red shirts. I was really happy with how easy these were (and I didn't have to reverse the image). These turned out like the good iron ons you can get done at the Jersey shore (probably most shore stores on the east coast!)

The biggest tip is repeated a bunch of times on the labeling: DO NOT use an ironing board!!! i think it must absorb too much heat away from the project. I put a piece of white board on my kitchen counter, ironed a pillow case (as directed) then put my ironed t shirt on top of the pillow case to do the transfer. very easy.

Here is Joe's - same design, but better!
5614348073_266ac7e61f.jpg

Here is mine - I changed the coloring on my name from purple to a blue green...and added sparkles to the stars
5614926554_76e6d63d43.jpg

Finally, here is Katie's. Hers is also same design but I added sparkles to her name & to the crown...ya know, cuz we're sparkly girls :lmao:

5614924836_7edb31e50c.jpg

--here's the thing you'll see on Ktie's. Because hers has a tiara, there was just no way I was going to be able to cut out all the white behind the openings without wrecking it, so I left that little bit of white. On the transfers for white shirts, the transfer is (I think) clear, so you won't see it. but for dark shirts, your transfer is white so that you can use white in your design (remember, printers don't print white, they just skip printing on that space). so keep that in mind if you use the transfers for dark fabrics. and cut close to the edges when you are cutting your transfer off of the sheet.

Now, drumroll please

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

what you have been waiting for..

the tie dyes!!!

Katie's kids large:
5612442025_4e8ab54312.jpg

Katie's adult medium (cheap tees so I bought them big; this will be a great pool cover up for her, or knowing Katie, a sleep shirt)
5615223592_14a9f67dab.jpg

Joe's --- he asked me to make an oxford tie dye too. Some times he just totally surprises me with something silly. I didn't even think he would wear tie dyes so I was so surprised when he said yes and had me do me do a button down (he wears button downs most of the time)

5614644271_f3b24a5597.jpg

5615224220_c354e8ec2f.jpg

and finally my Mickey tie dye

5615223978_8c4db72c36.jpg

these were fun to do, and I learned a few things that I will share with you about doing these as well.

I completely followed the directions given by PixieDust32 on the disigners board here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2028914;
--- the tighter you twist your shirts, the more white you will have. If you twist them tight for effect, really stick the dye tip into the folds to get the colors through. You'll see a lot of white on the front of my shirts, less on the back. apparently when I was adding the dye I didn't realize which side was which. I took a photo of the back of one shirt so you can see what I mean:

5614644463_16eff4b074.jpg

---USE GLOVES! both for the dye part but more importantly for the second night when you are taking the rubber bands off the shirts. also, during this process, there is splattering!! when a rubber band gets snapped by mistake (oh its going to happen!) the dye splatters. wear an apron & make sure you don't have anything around that will get ruined by a stray splat!

--when you are basting, do your stitches on the big side and then pull them very tight when you're done. I took the thread that I pulled and wrapped it all round the bottom where the mickey out line it. I did Katie's two smaller sized shirts on a different night, and the stitiches were closer together and you can see they did not come out with a sharp white line. I took one of hers and used fabric paint to trace the line & put glitter on it. its still drying!

--I used a crayola washable crayon to trace the mickey head. it gave me a nice wide line to follow for basting, and washed right out when I washed the shirts after dyeing them.

Finally, thanks so much for coming by to read. I am quite behind on reading everyones reports and I'm jonesing!!! I've been caught reading the dis board on my phone at the oddest times. I try to at least post a quick comment to say hi(Ok really cuz I can't keep my mouth shut even when typing!:rotfl: but sometimes just cant. I don't know how some of you all are so faithful at popping in to say hi...hats off to you!!!:worship:

that's it for me. I wrote all this out now have to upload it and get to bed!

I just packed up some white tees with instructions on what colors to use on what tees. They're in the mail on their way to you. Just send them back after you tye-dye them for me. ;)

:lmao::rotfl2:

Your shirts came out awesome! Great job on them! With all the talk about them... I'm really wanting to make us some. :thumbsup2

Love the shirts, especially the tie dye. When I first saw your pictures I thought for a brief moment about attempting some, and then I read your notes and the instructions. I don't think I'll be making those.

I was going to make us all SW t-shirts for SWW and even got the transfer paper from amymickey (which worked great last year), but DH didn't like the design I had his shirt so I just cancelled the whole thing. I still have to make Caitlin a Tangled shirt though.

Goodness, I was about 9 pages back! Your trip is getting SO close! :dance3: Your shirts turned out great too - I haven't been adventurous enough to dare to do any of the great crafty shirts from here on the DIS, I'm certain they would turn out as a complete hot mess!

Serously lady, where do you find the time?? They look wonderful, I am sure the family will love them. Katies with tiara is so cool!
So I wonder if I should return the light transfers for dark, even with white shirts for a better quality trasnfer? Where did you get them? I have what i found at Target.I appreiate the tips.
Hey, I was in your area last night, shopping for easter and quick dinner

Wow, so many updates! I have been completely out of the loop. But I have to say, I love everything! :teeth:

A special congratulations on fitting into the white skirt! I tried on a pair of shorts today that didn't fit last week, and they are too tight to actually wear but I could button and zip them. Woo hoo! It's nice when you get that kind of feedback. :woohoo:

Your trip is getting so close! I know you're so excited - it's a beautiful time of year to go. :thumbsup2

:rotfl::rotfl:they need a chicken icon:rotfl2: The tie dyes were fun though this was not my first experience -- we go camping a lot and this is a fun project that a lot of campgrounds offer.

be brave! my first venture DID turn into a big mess, but we are "crafty" people so Katie has a whole assortment of hand decorated t's...they are good for sloppy days;)

Hey, I was in your area last night, shopping for easter and quick dinner
You should see my house & the mountain of laundry waiting to be folded & put away. THAT's where I get the time - I would MUCH rather be doing artsy stuff and playing than cleaning and so I have:rotfl:

Thanks for the compliments though, I am excited to wear them. Katie wanted to wear one yesterday but I made her wait. :goodvibes

I bought my transfers at Michael's craft store. I can't say what the quality is of the clear ones but yeah, I think even on a white shirt I would buy the transfers for dark colors because they really did turn out nice.

There's a new hibachi grill & buffet on Rte 191 where Kmart used to be. (Know where that is?)We went there for dinner last night. Food was good but I said to Joe...we CANNOT go here....too many yummy (and bad) choices that its so easy to over do it.

I just reminded Joe & Katie that we have 29 days till Disney :dance3::dance3: which gives us about 20 days to unclutter clean & straighten!!

Wow, so many updates! I have been completely out of the loop. But I have to say, I love everything! :teeth:

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2for getting into the shorts! Even if you can't wear them yet it just feels SO GOOD to get them zipped, doesn't it??

I"m working on a pair of white jeans now... can pull them up but that's about it at this point

29 days!!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1::dance3::dance3:

In 29 days from now we will be thinking about lunch …but in what park?:confused3

You will all chuckle along with me as I tell you that last night at 11:15 pm I realized that we “needed” to change our park days!:lmao:

I was just adding a page for my binder of the touring plans crowd levels for our trip, when I realized I had messed up! :rotfl2: I had scheduled our first WDW day to be at MK, but crowd levels are at 5.5 and DHS is only .9!!! YOW! And then on the 17th, when I had us going to DHS, the DHS is 5.5 and MK is only 3.1. So OF COURSE I have to change!!!
:rolleyes1
When I mentioned this to DH I remembered that he had initially asked that we go to MK or EP for Day 1, not DHS. But when I told him about the crowd levels he was a okay for switching! So, despite having my mini book already printed, yup, we are changing the plans!

It wasn’t too difficult – we were going to do MK for the bulk of the day & then go to EP after dinner. We will just swap DHS for MK and evening plans will stay the same for both days.

So here is Saturday:

Arrive at DHS app 7:45 for opening show.
Toy Story Mania! As soon as the park opens, obtain FASTPASSes for Toy Story Mania.
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (FP)
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Unless the wait time exceeds 30 minutes, do not use FASTPASS.
See Beauty and the Beast (25 min show) Check the daily entertainment schedule for show times.
The Great Movie Ride (Hollywood Blvd)
Muppet*Vision 3-D (streets of America)
Studio Catering Co. Flatbread Grill
Ride Toy Story Mania! using the FASTPASSes obtained earlier
Do Disney Animation tour & “class”
**Check the time for the Block Party Bash @3
After BPP, head out for 4:30 dinner plans @ Grand Floridian

And now here is Tuesday:

Aim to be there before park opens at 9am
start out by checking out the Main St Barber shop
Take the train over to Frontier Land
Explore Frontier Land: Big Thunder Mountain; FP for Splash Mountain; Tom Sawyer Island
Get a Dole Whip at the Aloha Isle in adventureland
Head over to Liberty Square: Visit the Hall of Presidents, Liberty Square River boat; Haunted Mansion; Try lunch at Columbia Harbour House or salads at the Pinocchio Village Haus in Fantasyland.
After lunch either back to resort for pool time or more rides in
Fantasyland: FP for Peter Pan’s flight (try for one before lunch so can ride after) It’s a Small World; Golden Carousel; Mickey’s Philharmonic; Dumbo

5 PM dinner @ Contemporary
After Dinner: Hollywood Studios
Take the Magic of Disney Animation Tour if we didn’t on Saturday
Journey into Narnia
Playhouse Disney Dance Party
See the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.
9 pm Fantasmic! fireworks show!

Luckily today is a catch up day at work so I took a little time to update my mini trip pages & will just re print those two. Worst case is that I glue new pages over top of the original plans.

So what else am I doing?

1. Slowly pulling out our clothing as we de-clutter our bedroom :lmao:
2. Printing out all my lists, checking what else I need in my binder
3. Updating my binder file so that I can do one last print out.
4. Looking for maps to put in my binder. I have my pre ordered souvenir maps but they are huge. I need the small ones. I think I have spares from our last trip so I can mark them.
5. Getting my tip envelope money.
6. Clean clean clean so our house/dog sitter doesn’t see how cluttered we are!

The laundry comment made me:rotfl: laugh, that is SO ME. I will cook elaborate meals and spend time planning vacation all the while I have a huge pile of unfloded laundry waiting, calling to me.
My sis and kids went to the Hibachi for DN birthday and said it was great. I was going to suggest it but we decided to go to Texas Roadhouse since we went to book store. We got disney book lights for the kids easter baskets.

I think I may try to get to Michaels for transfers. Thanks again

I can't believe it!!! That is so exciting, and I have been so far behind on everything!
First, LOVED the photos of the Fairy Dance and your DD and DH look so wonderful together, how fun!
I am IN LOVE with your Iron On Transfers, what an AMAZING Job you did!! Incredible!!! I REALLY Love the Bling and Sparkle of Katie's shirt, you are so talented!!! :worship: Excellent job on the planner as well, how crafty you are! :flower3:
