Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

PIXIE DUST SHIRTS
Of course, no sooner do I email to ask about the shirts then they arrive in my mail box. I'm once again pretty pleased with the way they came out.

Here's the shirt we will be wearing for the 10K.

This picture isn't quite as crisp as I'd like, but I still like it pretty well. So, for those of you fellow PDC runners, if you spot me in the crowd be sure and say hi!

Those are so cool! Is there a misprint on the tink one though? "Please clap your hands as your run by" I'm sure you could take a white marker to it if it isn't intended.

AWESOME shirts!!! I love that your 1/2 shirt invites people to act. You are going to get lots of clapping on the course I think! :)

Oh my gosh!! You are totally right. I didn't even notice that. I should be annoyed but instead I think it's sort of hilarious!

I guess I need to go back and look at what I sent to them. The error may have been mine not theirs.

INKnBURN skirt review
It was finally warm enough this morning to try out my new InB Bee skirt that I bought a few weeks ago. This one...

IMG_3690_zpsnuvlnnj0.jpg

So, how did I like it compared to my tried and true SparkleSkirts?

I think the jury might still be out.

Pros - I loved the lightweight fabric.
Still like the way the slightly longer back looks.
The fit was comfortable and I liked the big splits up the side for ease of movement.

Con - Really just one con, but might be a big one. The shorts are shorter than SparkleSkirts. Now, I knew that going in, but was unsure how they would feel. So, at least initially I kept feeling like the shorts were riding up. But, they actually weren't, they just weren't where I'm used to feeling them and so my brain kept thinking I needed to pull them down. It was a distraction. I assume one I'll adjust to, but for this morning, it was just strange. Also due to the shorter length I definitely felt more thigh rubbing. On the 4 mile run this morning, it was fine and didn't cause any chaffing, but on a longer run, it might. I know @Ariel484 warned me of this and I think said she just makes sure to use glide there, so I imagine that would fix any concerns.

I'm still really tempted to buy the new denim skirt and sarape shirt because they are so cute, but think maybe I should give the skirt one more try on a longer run before I commit to another one. I really want to love it for the pros I mentioned (plus they are so stinking CUTE). So, the temptation to order that other skirt before it might be gone is a hard one to resist.

I definitely think the shorter shorts take some getting used to if you are accustomed to the length of the SparkleSkirts shorts. I think it's a good idea to try another run in Bee before possibly getting the Denim skirt. Do you feel like you're at least in the right size? That was the toughest part for me...I bought 3 different sizes of one of their skirts last year to try to figure out which was right. :crazy2: I definitely know the feeling of thinking you need to pull down the shorts when you actually don't. It's weird. :confused3 And yeah, I use BodyGlide on the inner thighs and that seems to work for me.

But yeah, if the shorts don't work for you, that's no good!!

I haven't worn an inknburn skirt for a run longer than 3 or 4 miles, but I'm glad you mentioned the body glide because I should definitely use that for a long run! Hopefully the skirt gets comfortable for you, because you look so good in it!

That skirt looks fabulous on you! Absolutely fantastic. Really love it. I'm a big fan of short skirts for running. If it's more than 12 or 12.5 inches, it feels like too much material. The shorts only creep up if I'm wearing the skirts that are a little too big for me. I'm really used to it now and the material is so comfy that it doesn't bother me at all. I don't have chafing issues, though, so that would be a different story.

So I'd give it another try, based on Ariel's suggestions! Besides, at this point, running is the only time I can legitimately wear a short skirt anymore. If I show up at school pick-up in anything shorter then slightly-above-knee-length, someone says, "How was your run?" One of the reasons I love Disney race trips - get to wear running clothes all week!

Off-topic question, and hoping you might be able to help! Our oldest son's college wish list brings us to Ohio (thanks to @Ariel484 for advice!) Texas, and Missouri! Planning a visit to Springfield and trying to decide whether to fly into St. Louis or Kansas City. If you've been to Springfield, how's the drive from KC?

I'm not sure on the size. I think it might be a touch too big. I can float pretty easily between a couple of sizes on the capris and tights, so I went with the bigger size on the skirt and I think that may be part of my problem.

Thank you. And, it's weird because it really wasn't uncomfortable per se, just felt different and I think I was more worried it would get uncomfortable rather than actually BEING uncomfortable...if that makes sense.

Thank you! I love to run in skirts and the fabric on that Bee skirt is great. I hear you on wanting to wear them all the time, but I can't get away with it either.

Definitely fly into KC. It's an easier airport to get in and out of and navigate. The drive is very easy. Right at 3 hours from the airport to Springfield. We live right outside of Springfield and often choose to fly in and out of KC to save money. What college is he considering here?

Training Week 4/9 – 4/15
Last Long Run before Taper!
image.gif

We are getting so close to Tinkerbell weekend and I’m getting really impatient for that trip!!!

Sunday 4/9 – We didn’t do anything as far as exercise today. I still can’t convince myself to ride my bike again.
Calories – 1137
Carbs - 21

Monday 4/10 – Core Strength. I did push up to the next level on the workout I do. It was a little bit tougher, but not too much so.
Weight gain/loss -1.6 lbs. for the week. -9.8 lbs total. Dropped off a bit more, so getting very close to the 10 lb mark on weight loss. Hooray!!!

Calories – 1016
Carbs – 36

Tuesday 4/11 – 4 mile run with our slightly longer intervals. Good run and I felt good the whole time. Overall pace 10:47.
Calories – 1093
Carbs – 14

We tried the Slow Flow yoga on our tape. Yowza. Some of those stretches were hard!!! Definitely felt some of it more in my hamstring, so I had to be careful not to push too far on it, but it felt good overall.

Puppy stretch!

Wednesday 4/12 – Bagged out on strength training. I wanted to sleep in the morning, and our daughter, Sophie, had a choir concert that night, so we just didn’t make it happen.
Calories – 1040
Carbs – 24

Thursday 4/13 – 4 mile run with the same intervals. Solid again and just felt good with this one. Overall pace 10:44.
Calories & Carbs – We went out with friends for drinks and snacks and it was too hard to figure out calories and carbs, so I didn’t. :D

Friday 4/14 – Rest day and Happy Good Friday. I took the day off work, because Chris and I had a plan to clean up and stain the pergola in our back yard and to get our pool opened up. MAN!!! That pergola was a chore. We had to work on it both Friday and Saturday to get it done. Before shot!

Calories – 1085
Carbs – 23

Saturday 4/15 – this was our last really long run before Tink. 14 miles. We had a friend run with us who is contemplating joining our Galloway group and doing her first marathon this fall. She’s done a few halfs, so 14 miles would have been her furthest run ever. We ran 90/30 intervals and she did GREAT!!! Overall pace was 11:42. I was definitely tired by the end, but it was a solid last training run. Bring on that Pixie Dust Challenge!! After we got home, we finished up the staining of the pergola and it looks fantastic!

It was a good week and I’m so happy to be in taper time!!!

There' so much Win in this post.
Love your pergola. I'll be by in about 10 minutes with carb-free pina coladas (I don't actually know if they exist)
Congrats on your -9.8 lbs too. I think I may have found a couple of the ones you lost and are keeping them company. If I lose them, I promise not to return them to you :)
And 14 miles!!! You'll be eating fairies for breakfast!

Once you find a recipe for that carb-free pina colada, send it right on!! I did find diet tonic water, so I see more gin and tonics in my future.

Thank you!! I feel my willpower being strained. Only the lure of eating mucho carbs at Disneyland is getting me through!

I usually do a little longer taper than some. We'll have two more weekend long runs (planning on 8 and 6 milers) before the race. But, it's getting close now!

Open pool?!?! Ours is still closed... The pergola looks great!

Great job on the 14 miler and happy taper!

Your backyard looks amazing and so relaxing... I'll be over in a jiffy ;)

Great week of running (and eating too!)... How do you only eat 1,000 cal the day before 14 miles and 1500 cal the day of?? You are amazing.
