Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

BIG, LONG RUN SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND
After a couple of shorter Saturday runs, we are set for the next long run this Saturday. The marathon groups are scheduled to do a 23-miler. So, Chris will be leading our Blue group on that one. My modified plan to still get me to our local marathon in November has me running 17. I'm worried about that and just unsure what is best to do. I will for sure still plan to drop back down to the Pink group and run with them at a slower pace with a :60/:30 interval. That served me well on the 13 miler I ran a few weeks ago, but that was before the PF really kicked in. This weekend will likely be my make or break decision on running the half or full for November. I did run on Tuesday this week and the foot wasn't bad while I was running, but then got pretty sore during the day at work. :sad1: By Wednesday it was feeling better again, but I decided not to run this morning in anticipation of the run Saturday.

The smarter move is for me to probably drop back to the half although that makes me sad. We went to a happy hour thing on Tuesday night that Bass Pro hosts every year to celebrate the running festival. Our group leader was given an award which was so cool for her. She was completely surprised and really touched. They also revealed the medal and somehow I had totally missed that this is the 10 year anniversary of the running festival. The medal is AWESOME. Actually I love all their medals typically as they are conservation/outdoor based and usually really pretty. This year, it's a spinner in honor of the anniversary. And, you know I'm a total sucker for anniversary bling! Luckily the medal is a spinner for both the half and the full, so even if I dropped back to the half, I still get that nice anniversary bling.

I did go ahead and order one of these socks to sleep in to try and combat the PF

Looks pretty torturous to me and I suspect will make sleeping difficult, but I just wanted to try every possible solution to keep running through this PF. I ordered it from Amazon since I couldn't find one local. Hoping it arrives today and that I can actually sleep with it on. Wish me luck!

One the running clothing front, I got an email yesterday from INKnBurn with an announcement for preorders for their Christmas items...

LOVE!LOVE!LOVE! Although I do wish the cable knit capris were tights, but that's a minor quibble. I've been on a list to try and buy the old Holiday shirts and white cable knit tights for awhile, so no reason for me to even pretend that I'm not going to order these. I can't wait until I can get my hands on them. I'm never going to have money again. Sigh.

That's it for the current updates and I realize it's been awhile since I posted an RDP, so here ya go.... Around mile 25 of the marathon back in 2014 I believe. I remember feeling so bad for poor Sleeping Beauty as we were hot, sweaty messes and yet she will put her pretty little princess arms around us. That's royal dedication right there, people!

I hope you run this weekend goes well!

I definitely understand your worries and sadness about possibly not doing the full but do what's best for you for your health. If you stay healthy there will always be more races but if things get worse it might not be good.

My coaches in football always said make sure your best play is your next play because you never know when it could be your last. The same can apply to running.

Good luck with your run this weekend!! Trust me, I know how much it sucks to be staring down a decision like this. But half or marathon, you are still awesome. Take care of that foot!

I am DYING at those capris. The shirt is completely adorable, and obviously I'm getting it, but THOSE CAPRIS...

I am lucky enough to have the tights and I was really hoping last year that they'd do the tights again in the red, green or royal blue from last year's Christmas sweater...so clearly INKnBURN has been reading my Christmas wishlist! :wizard: And I think they will go with a ton of tops! So excited.

Those InkNBurn clothes are hilarious! Awesome for a hot chocolate race! Hope that sock works out for you. And good luck with your run - you're tougher than me!

This is good advice. :goodvibes I can be awfully stubborn, but I am going to try very hard to keep a good perspective this weekend and make the right choice depending on how the run goes.

I know you know about the disappointments surrounding injuries.

I've been hoping (and assuming) that a Christmas shirt was coming and really hoping for some kind of cable knit bottom. That blue is fantastic and I'm completely enamored with that running Gingerbread man. We have an annual Turkey Trot that we run on Thanksgiving and I'm totally wearing that outfit for the run. Can't wait.

Good luck with your run Saturday!

Hope the sock helps. But it does look a bit scary!

Thank you! I wore it last night. It was a little uncomfortable, but not as bad as I imagined it would be. Foot might feel a little better this morning, so maybe this will help me.

Not really that tough. ;) Aren't those clothes the best? I can't wait to get them!!

Glass Half-Full
As I mentioned above, we had another long training run set up for Saturday. Still nursing my PF, I was hoping to get in a 17 mile run with a slower pace group and if I could accomplish that, I felt like the marathon was still within reach for November. Sadly, 17 miles was just something that my heel and my brain could not agree upon.

6 AM and I headed out with the Pink pace group running a :60/:30 interval and an average of around a 12 minute pace. Temps were pretty good in the upper 60s although some pretty high humidity, but not bad at all. I felt very comfortable with the pace and had a nice time visiting with some runners that I used to run with more frequently, but don't run with much now. The first several miles went by pretty quickly and I was feeling good in most respects, but my heel had been bothering me all along and as the miles added up, it became more and more noticeable.

Still as we coming up the final hill for our 11 mile finish, my legs felt strong and while I was a little tired, I knew that my body had 6 more miles in it if I could just get my heel to cooperate. We got to the end and finished up our 11 miles at a 12:11 pace. I stopped for a few minutes to say goodbye to everyone and get my NEW Bluetooth wireless headphones paired to my phone and prepared to head out for another 6 mile loop. With my playlist going in my ears, I headed out but noticed pretty quickly that my stop seemed to have made my heel more sensitive - probably a drop off in adrenaline. Still, I thought that getting moving again, the adrenaline would kick in and I could finish up the distance. I kept telling myself that for the next mile and a half until I finally realized I was being really stupid. It was obvious that the pain was not getting better and if I kept at it I was tempting fate to end up really injuring myself. So, I stopped. :sad1: And it really bummed me out, but as I slowly limped my way BACK the mile and a half I had run, it was also very apparent that I had come to the right decision. My heel was causing me a lot of pain and even walking back was difficult.

While I was bummed out to have to stop and acknowledge that a marathon in November is just not in the cards this year, I had just finished 11 miles feeling strong (aside from my heel) and that if I would just give myself some time to heal, I could still likely run the half in November and be ready for Goofy in January. So, here I am. This morning I went online and changed my registration from the full to the half. I'm not going to run for two weeks and then come back for just a 4 mile run to start out. I'll keep up my stretching, icing, torture-night-sock regimen and believe that I'll feel better soon!! You know, sometimes things just aren't meant to be and I think that's just the way this marathon training season has been for me, but that doesn't mean I can't adjust and move forward. Onward to better running days ahead I hope and in just roughly 3 and a half months I'll be here!

It was probably the right decision to stop before things got worse. It probably sucks knowing you are capable of more but your heel just doesn't want to have it. We are all hoping you get back to normal quickly!

I'm sorry you had to switch to the half, but it definitely sounds like the right decision. Way to go on a great run though!!

Sorry you couldn't get your heel on board with the rest of your body. Sounds like you've got a good plan forward!

You're awesome ZellyB! I mean, really awesome! When I think of all you have been through in the last several years (your diagnosis of breast cancer, your treatment, surgery and chemo), the races you've run and are planning to run are simply amazing to me. I don't want to get all up in your business but I just wanted to kind of list it all here for you to see. You've come a long way baby!

You are so inspiring to all of us - this is just a bump in the road. :)

Thank you for the encouragement!

It really was a good run all things considered and I'm happy about a lot of things regarding where I am right now.

A good plan always makes me feel better. Here's hoping it works out!!

Love that picture. Sorry about the PF, but best to take care of yourself!

I love that picture too! We had one with just us standing and smiling and the photographer was like, "Come on now you can do better than that!"

Aw that's so sweet of you. It's certainly been a journey and one that I really appreciate going on. Thank you! :lovestruc

Wow, I had no idea. You really are an inspiration! I agree with @Ariel484 : :worship:

Thank you. Coming up on my 4 year cancer-versary and it all seems a long time ago. I'm very fortunate to have come through like I did and I credit running for how good I still feel today. Bad knees and PF aside. ;)
I had no idea either and so glad you feel so good today! My mom has battled back to back colon cancer, then breast cancer, and just now she's starting treating liver cancer. So the goal is that she is better by Tinkerbell weekend to come crash my hotel and be with me. I really hope that can happen. Your strength is very impressive :)

WOW, that's so much for one person to have to endure. I'm so sorry that she and your family have been through and continue to go through that. I really hope that she can crash with you as well!

What a wonderful Mothers Day it will be for her! Your mom is tough stuff!
