Handicapped seating and Hoop Dee Doo

Has anyone else tried to make ressies at Hoop Dee Doo recently? I just called there and got the run around. Once you tell them you are using the DDP they tell you you have to book in tier 2 or 3. But every where I read only tier 1 is wheelchair accessible.
Anyone else talk to them recently?
I could always book it with a credit card and fight them when I get there but not sure I want to.
 
Did you tell them you are in a wheelchair? There is no way to get to the second floor that I know of so they have to place you on the first floor and should not charge you more. They need to accommodate you. Contact Guest Services and explain your problem.
 
I told her 5 or 6 times that there is a wheelchair but she didn't seem to care since I told here we were using the DDP.
I'm going to call back in the morning and see what happens then.
 
There are some Category 2 seats on the ground floor. Maybe they reserve them for wheelchair access for DDP patrons?

I've been wondering how they would treat that, ever since I noticed this tier level price! I definitely would call back & make sure that they are going to insist you pay the higher price. Most places we have attended (locally) As long as they can provide you with a seat in a higher price range, you'll pay for it!

Under the ADA they are suppose to offer you the same seating options as able bodied people have. Because that doesn't happen most of the time like take the circus they throw up the big top and have bleacher seats. Floor seats are $50, next level is $35 top level is $15. Of course all of the wheelchair seating in in the $50 dollor section because of bleacher seating but that doesn't mean you have to pay $50. All you have to do is argue that under the ADA you are entitled to equal seating and if you didn't need the wheelchair you would be able to pay the $15 therefore they have to give you a ticket for $15 even if you are seating in the $50 section.
 
We've gone there once ( last year) with the DDP and were never told we'd have to pay more to be seated on the ground floor. The seating is off to one side and I did feel like I was in the "handicapped section" as there were two other families with disabled guests t/w a w/c right next to us. They weren't what I'd call "premier" seats but we were able to see just fine and had a great server. I'm not sure why they even need to know you're using the DDP or how you'll be paying. I just made the ressie, told them I was using a power w/c and had a service dog and once we were there we were seated appropriately. The evening we were there it wasn't full so there were only a few guests in the upper level. As has been said before it would be a violation of the ADA to require you to pay more if they don't provide disabled access in the lesser priced seating areas.---Kathy

There are level 2 seats on the main floor so if they are available, she should be able to book it with the DDP. If there are no more level 2 seats for that show then she will have to pay OOP for level 1 seats or choose a different day where level 2 seats are available. I don't think she will get level 1 seats with DDP because of the wheelchair.

I'm not too sure how the rules work, but if you refer back to the circus example from earlier this would not be right. You could argue if tier 2 is sold out that you could have used the tier 3 seating had the upper level been accessible (I assume there's no elevator). So as long as Tier 3 is not sold out as well, they may have to give you a Tier 1 seat. Of course, if there is no Tier 1 seating available that night, you're probably out of luck.
 
A person requiring accessible accomodations cannot be charged more than an able bodied person if accessible seating isn't available in the category booked with the DDP and thus they'll have to "upgrade" them to the tier 1 seating at no cost or put in an elevator to the second floor so that tier 2 and 3 seating is available. If there are other guests already booked that require accessible seating, thus making it unavailable at all, then someone would have to choose another date or time but they cannot be forced to pay more OOP for tier 1 if they cannot be accomodated in tier 2 or 3 to start with. I can't imagine Disney would violate the ADA in this way and I've never had to press the issue.---Kathy
 
When we booked we were given a special phone number to call for Wheelchair accessible tier 2 seating. I called the number and they were of a great help to me. We had to change reservations and I had lost the number and called the regular one. The person was very rude and said you have to walk up steps if you are on the dining plan. I just hung up and called back and asked for the number that could assist me in booking HDDR with an ECV. I called the number and again had no trouble getting a table. I am at work and do not have the number, but if you call the 407-wdw-dine and ask for it they will give it to you or transfer you.
 
I have a question that I'm not sure you can answer....

We will be trying to get reservations for HDDR that will require ECV access AND dietary restrictions (we're a fine lot! ;) ). If I call the wheelchair number, do you think they will be able to deal with the dietary portion, or is this something we will have to take up with the restaurant directly?

I believe it is a special needs number, and the can handle all special needs. But I am not 100% sure. The number is 407-939-7707.
 
I hope everything was worked out to the OP's satisfaction.....and Dr. Alice thanks for the comment about Skye. The photo was from her first time meeting Snow White and she liked her ALOT...she was practically getting ready to climb in her lap. ---Kathy
 
Ok, we just got back from a trip where we had to have wheel chair seating, and there is tier 2 wheel chair seating there, we were towards the back of the house, but still a great seat.
