Found them in the Target $1 aisle today. Bought a few in hopes that I won't need them this year for marathon weekend!

Give me last year's cold over it going in the opposite direction this year. I can run in cold. I can't run in heat & humidity. But thanks for the heads-up about Target. I'll check to see if mine has any.

The local dollar tree also had 2 packs for $1. They also had something called Toastie Toes that went in your shoes. I don't know if I'd run in them though. It might be worth exparimenting with.

Last year was the first year since 99; well maybe the second year in that stretch that I would have considered hand warmers. With this year's winter weather pattern I fully expect starts in the mid to upper 50's this year with finish temps in the 60's maybe lower 70's for the marathon. Most likely we will be discussing how to acclimate to hot and humid running conditions in early January.

My next Half marathon I think is going to be April 3rd in Ohio. The weather could be anything from cold to nice.

I used the Toastie Toes (or something similar) for the Princess 1/2 last year, really it is just the same as the hand warmers but they are sticky on one side. I keep them in for the entire race; but I think if I had wanted to take them off it would have been easier to have just used the hand warmers.

Me too! I'm more concerned about it being unseasonably warm this year. I just turn in to jelly in the heat. In the cold, at least I can put on an extra layer and just keeping moving to stay warm.

I've always said I'd rather deal with cold. You can always ADD layers, but there is only so much you can take off in public (and heck, even in private when you're down to your birthday suit, you can't go any further!)!

I agree that I can handle the cold better than the heat. But, I don't like going on Ice or snow.

My goal is just to listen and believe if they say it will be cold again. I know how to deal with it but my brain oculd just not comprehend that I had to and I didn't dress right. :( Sitll kicking myself.

While I'd like a cooler race, I'd really like to wear shorts in the parks at least one day this year. :upsidedow

While I don't run well in heat (it rarely gets above 65 here in the Pacific Northwest), I will kiss Mickey's feet if I have an awful hot, humid, miserable run this year. Last year was so awful and I didn't enjoy our vacation AT ALL because of the cold. I'd usually pray for 45 degrees at the start line, but this year BRING ON THE HEAT!!! I want to use the resort pool for once and be able to enjoy my Dole Whip!

That said, I've been stocking up on hot hands and dollar store gloves for this trip.

So when we all have heat strokes and heat-related issues we know who to blame! :P

Yup, bring on the blame! If I get to wear flip flops and actually use the cute Nemo swim diaper I bought for my son, then you may direct any scathing torrents of anger in my direction. I will happily take it.

I don't think you understand just how cold it was last year... :lmao: I'm not sure what was worse: the half in the sleet, or the windburn and going 5 hours without feeling my hands from the full. :confused3

I can handle cold. I live in NYC. I had a 10K in October that had a starting temp in the 30s with heavy winds. And flip flops? Heck, those can be worn with temps into the 40s and 50s.

Dude, I grew up in Calgary in Canada. -40 with the windchill is not uncommon. But there's a big difference between 30 degrees for a 10K, and 30 degrees for a marathon. One hour running in the cold isn't bad.... 5 hours running in the cold is miserable.

As is running in high humidity and heat. I maintain that you can always put stuff on (gloves, etc), but you can only strip so far. LOL.

Hopefully it'll be a happy medium and split the difference.

I don't think so. I ran Goofy on Ice (as Kirsty calls it) last year, and I wasn't miserable at all. With long sleeves and tights on, I was warm and comfortable the whole time I was running. The freezing rain sucked, sure, but the temperatures weren't all that bad.

Heat and humidity - now that's my idea of miserable. Running through it during the summer is the one big thing I don't like about living in Houston. And as you said, hopefully this year's Disney weather will be in the middle. I'd vote for 40 at the start, 50 at the finish. :)

Different strokes. I didn't find the freezing rain that bad (I live in Seattle - I run in freezing rain 6 months of the year) but the cold and wind during the marathon made me want to quit. I had such bad windburn on my face that I was putting Body Glide (as a kind of 'chapstick') on my bleeding cheeks for days afterwards. I found the temperatures brutal and I will cancel the trip and lose some money if the forecast is looking like that again. A week at Disney in 20/30/40 degree temperatures with a 5 month old is not something I will do this year. I'd rather have a bit of sucky running weather and be warm for the rest of the trip!

Edited to add: I found 2009 to be pretty ideal. 40 at the start, 50 at the finish, 60 during the afternoon.

I so agree with this and have said it numerous times this past year in training :thumbsup2

I understand how some people feel about how cold it was last year but I would much prefer the temps we had last year to hot temps. I was bundled up enough and had plenty of layers on that both the snow and freezing rain for the half and the 27 degree temps for the full made me feel good instead of misserable from the heat.

I will settle for 50s this time but I don't want anything near 75 or 80 weather.
