I didn't realize Halloween started so early at Disney.

How do the decorations impact the experience?

I like Halloween and all but I'm not so sure I want my Disney to be Halloween themed.
I was planning on going back Sept. 2017 but now I'm rethinking it.

What do you think?

When do they take them down? I really wanted to get there during the 25th anniversary so I don't want to postpone until November. Maybe we'll go in July again.

They take them down after the last Halloween Party, then basically immediately follow them with the Christmas decorations, which stay up into the first week of January.

Ok, thanks. I will really have to think about this then. I think I am a purist! ha!

Yes, fall decorations are up at the beginning of September. They come down after Halloween (first week of November) and switched over to Christmas. I don't know if they would really impact your experience other than Main Street and the entry area. The fall deco seems to primarily confined to those areas.

This helps. Thanks.

Decorations are always up in time for the first Halloween party. The first party for 2016 was held last night.

We've never been to WDW when it wasn't dressed for Halloween/fall or Christmas so I'm not sure if I'm objective enough to answer but we love it! All their decorations are awesome and add to the experience IMO. I'd actually rather always go at these times than at "regular" times...I feel like there is just extra magic in the air. I strongly suggest you give it a try. I think you'd love it!

I actually find the normal main street to be a little plain after seeing the halloween or xmas decorations. Most of the park it's just some fall decorations so liberty square starts to get the dried corn farmers look for example. there is some mickey wreaths all around the place and main street looks like little town main street for the holiday :) I really enjoy it but I really like halloween as well. So overall, I like that it changes and I'm ok with summer ending and halloween starting right away. Lets more people enjoy fall that can't really travel closer and spreads crowds out over a longer period.

To get the full effect of halloween decorations you have to attend the MNSSHP party. That is when main street (and other areas like frontier land) lighting goes into more of a halloween colors with some strobe effects. Music also changes to family style halloween.

Pro tip: if you never paid attention to the carved pumpkins they are actually carved to tell you what is there. For example the firehouse has a dalmatian and there is 1 that is a sign to where the restrooms are. Take a moment to slow down and really look at them..

We love that "restroom" jack-o-lantern! DH and I like to stroll Main Street and look at all of them, found some really cute ones! So many people just rush by all the little Disney details in all the parks, there are nice surprises when you slow down to take in the details.

The only place that I have ever noticed any fall/Halloween type decorations is at Magic Kingdom. I have never noticed them anywhere else. They really are subtle I think

As others have said the decorations are mostly on main street in the Magic Kingdom. They put them up earlier and earlier every year because the parties start earlier and earlier every year. Disney does a great job decorating. I would never let a few beautiful decorations influence going in September as it is one of the least crowded times. We've been going in September the last 14 years and the crowds have picked up since we first went but still feel it is the best time to go.

Ok, I'm sold.
We will stick to our September plan.
I know it isn't much cooler than July but I'm doing some wishful thinking.
