Hallmark Movies ❤️ comfort & joy

I remember liking Time For Me to Come Home for Christmas and it was right at the time that I was watching the tv show The Arrangement that had Josh Henderson in it. I did not see the second addition though it's recorded and the third one is also recorded. I'm glad you clarified that they are not intertwined in storylines because I almost thought of watching this most recent one before the one from last year because the plot points appeal a bit more to me at the moment.

The 3 "Godwink" movies also aren't continuations of the same storyline or cast. Even though Kathie Lee Gifford appeared in the first two movies. She was a different character in each movie. Only the concept of what a Godwink is, is the same. So they can also be seen separately and out of order. (I like the second movie the best. The one with Cindy Busby.)

A Godwink is when extraordinary coincidence(s) happen in such a way, that it is really beyond a random coincidence, or a series of random coincidences, because they have the power to change life in extraordinary ways.

I've known of this concept and occurrence for years, by what, Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, called Synchronicity.

This reminds me of a great, non-Christmas, non-Hallmark movie, that is similar in theory, but is much, much more serious in tone. One I highly recommend. It's an old Gwyneth Paltrow movie, called Sliding Doors. It's where she's in England, trying to get on one of their Underground subway trains and the doors close before she is able to get on, so she misses the train. Then they show an alternate universe, where she makes it onto the train in time and gets on. The movie shows how her life takes two totally different paths depending on whether she makes it on or not. It might be on Netflix or Amazon.

Thanks for letting me know about the Godwink ones. I watched the first one and thought it was better than okay but not amazing. But I wanted to give the other two 'sequels' a shot.

Just to let you guys know there actually ARE movies airing after December 20th. I think Lifetime snuck them in. This is where I go for Lifetimes movies periodically to double check: https://www.mylifetime.com/movies

On December 21 Spotlight on Christmas
On December 22 The Christmas High Note
On December 23 Christmas at the Castle
On December 25 My Sweet Holiday (discussed below)

My Sweet Holiday (also titled Chocolate Covered Christmas if looking on it in IMDb). This movie was filmed in my area at a chocolate shop. There's footage from the Plaza as well which is not far from the chocolate shop.

The film makers are also local ones who also filmed prior movies and this year they were also in Weston, MO (which isn't located too too far from me) filming Christmas on Display though I don't know if that one has been picked up yet by someone to air. According to the local news stories for My Sweet Holiday they got footage of snow from last season on the Plaza which you know we're so used to seeing fake snow lol. The Plaza (formal name of Country Club Plaza) has a had lights on the buildings for 91 years now and every Thanksgiving there's a big affair about turning them on. I'm excited to watch it to see if they actually did incorporate the Plaza footage like the article mentions and to see a local area even if it's not a huge amount (we'll see) :) Hopefully the movie is a good one!

I just watched Sugar and Spice Christmas on Lifetime. It featured a Chinese-American family, and had enough culture to make it a little more interesting. I really enjoyed it and hope they continue to do movies featuring under-represented groups, I think it’s fun to learn a little something new, with the comfort I know I’m getting my happy ending 😉

I caught the first half of this movie. Will definitely watch the second half. The beginning credits say that it was written & directed by 2 Chinese(-Americans?) I also liked that there was enough of the Chinese culture included to make the movie more personal for the writer.

Hallmark also has a movie with an Asian family as the leads. It's the one where the woman plays the violin. It's more generically written, so any race could have been cast. It's nice to see they are now also being more diverse with casting and not just have token minorities as the supporting roles.

Here is an oldie Hallmark movie that I recommend. It's not one of my absolute favorites, but I catch myself re-watching it when it airs each year. It's called Catch A Christmas Star. Two high school sweethearts, who separated as the woman became a famous pop star, are reunited due to his kids.

It was written before Hallmark became really formulaic. So no ice skating or snow ball fights. It's nice to see a movie where the leads had other ways to interact. There are even two original Christmas songs that aren't bad.

It re-airs:
Wed 12/16 at 10am ET
Tues 12/22 at 6am ET
Mon 12/28 at 6am ET

This is the final weekend of new Christmas movies for Hallmark & HMM. :sad1:

You're welcome!

As an FYI I was just checking my guide and Christmas at the Castle is actually a previously released 2019 movie (just not shown on normal channels from what I figured) called Christmas in the Highlands and that's what the guide reflects so if you can't find the movie check for the Highlands one.

IMDb does not have that movie scoring high (it's below a 5) soooo it may not be the best. But I may still watch it. Just giving a heads up about the title at least for my guide with U-Verse. The description is the same as both Lifetime shows on their website and on the guide as it is for IMDb.

Watched that one this morning - really enjoyed it!

So I’m watching Lifetime’s Spotlight on Christmas. It’s cute but I’m disconcerted because Kimberly Sustad is playing “paparazzi.” It’s so weird to see a leading actress barely appearing...I do hope that means she’ll have her own Lifetime movie next Christmas 🎄

Yesterday, DH and I watched "Cross Country Christmas" (honest fluff) and this morning I watched "A Christmas Carousel" and we both watched "Christmas Wonderland". (I gave both a decent rating.)

Kimberly used to have more starring roles when she was younger. (I remember one where she had a cat and meets a fire fighter who found an orange cat. They end up sharing a house for a while. The cats got along really well too.)

Then suddenly, she got all the best friend roles to the female lead, instead. I think it was the first Godwink movie, a couple years ago, that I saw her as a female lead again. I hope it sticks this time. I really like Kimberly.

Two movies that I'm warning people off of. This one is the first.

Hallmark movie: A Little Christmas Charm. I don't know if it was the way the actor played the role, or if it was written this way, I thought he was rather pushy and arrogant, kind of stalkery. He acted more like a regular Lifetime movie character they have the rest of the year, when they have the obsessed stalkers going after the female leads. And this is a HALLMARK movie. :upsidedow

He kept asking her out. She'd say no. He actually stood in front of her a couple times, not letting her by. I wanted to yell at the TV, "What part of NO do you not understand??? When a woman says NO she means NO." She even says to him one time, "Are you stalking me?"

Then when he told her he was a reporter and wanted to help her out with the charm bracelet, I thought for sure she was going to say, "How do I know you are a real reporter and not just trying again to get me to go out with you, or trying to get me into your kidnap van." :sad2:

And later in the movie, when she needs him to come through, he wimps out on her because it no longer fits HIS needs. And his BOSS orders him to continue. He doesn't come around on his own. :sad2: To quote a famous quote by Maya Angelou, "When someone shows you who they are, believe it, the first time." He already showed he was pushy, arrogant, overruns boundaries and feelings to get his needs met. Now, when it no longer suits him, he proves he's not a man of character, wimping out on the woman.

There is a lot of stuff we tend to overlook in Hallmark movies, as it's supposed to be light fluff and we just go with it. THIS was not one of them. I thought for sure, I couldn't be the only one thinking this way. Someone else on the IMDb.com must have written a review with the same point of view. Yep! Here are two: (No, they are not by me. :p )

Creep leading man "I could not get past the first 20min because the lead male was a straight up creep and stalker and I couldn't bear to watch 2 hours of them inevitably falling in love. Can we please scrap romantic storylines that start with a pushy male lead who condescends to the female lead, ignoring the multiple times she clearly tells him she's not interested in him, as if it's charming? This isn't the 1950's anymore, Hallmark, if a woman says she's not interested it's not because she's 'playing hard to get.'"

And:

Good Once You Get Past the Stalkerish Beginning " [. . .] He's basically stalking the poor girl. He's a reporter, which appears to be how the writer thinks it's okay for him to be this way, but that didn't make it better because he wasn't even initially researching a story. The innocent and completely unrelated to his job or her mystery first meeting is just two strangers bumping into each other and then him trying to flirt, but she clearly rebuffs his not quite as smooth as he thinks romantic advances. He later sees her in a jewelry store by chance. . . but before he announces himself, he eavesdrops on her convo and hears about the lost charm bracelet and then proceeds to insert himself into her search for information, and she firmly discourages it and tells him she's good on her own. After she's rebuffed his romantic advances and his professional interest, he still thinks, this is a good situation and I'm going to keep being this kind of intrusive, . . . Ashley even said to him something along the lines of '"why are you stalking me?" :sad2:

There was another Hallmark movie this year that had a similar mystery theme of finding apiece of jewelry and wanting to find the owner. I think it was called The Christmas Ring. That was a lot better than this one.
