Half way through the kitchen painting UPDATE page 3

thanks all :)

I think I will go back to my original plan and paint the cabinets a parchment colour with a coffee glaze. I had an interior designer out and she convinced me to try the whitewash but I really didnt like the way it came out, obviously.

Trust me, you wouldnt have liked THAT red. It wasnt a good kitchen red at all and the paint wasnt good. Besides with the blue cabinets t was very dark and just didnt go with it

I used Kitchen and Bath paint on it and did everything I was supposed to do, Its really bad paint underneath what I put on. NOTHING adheres to it without a couple of layers.

back to the drawing board!

Lightly sand the cabinets and put a sealer/primer on them before you add your finish paint. The sealer will allow the finish paint coat that you choose to adhere.
Home Depot makes a primer that comes in a purple can made by Behr that you can have tinted "Parchment" or whatever color you decide to go with.

Good Luck on the Project!!!
Post finished pics when you are done.

Well Im finished! Well almost finished, as in everything but the trim and the hardware is done. But the cabinet faces are done which makes me really happy!

I went through a lot of ideas today with that glaze. I wasnt totally sold of any of them until I started wiping it off. THEN I found what I was looking for. I had to let it sit and soak in for a while and then wipe off the excess.

I dont think these are great pictures because of that stupid light in there but you can at least get an idea. This is exactly the look I was hoping for. Its kind of says " Im older than rock" LOL
So it really adds to that feeling of French country that I have going in here now.

So what do you think? :)

LOL! I had just finished posting when I saw that you are already nearing the finish of your kitchen. Looks good so far! Love the new finish. Very French!

I love them! That's the look that I was going after. Your cabinet color is a lot like mine!

Can't wait to see the finished kitchen!

Thanks :)

OK here is one more shot with the hardware on.

Im so happy :goodvibes LOL

Once I figured out how to get the look in my head to come out on the cabinets it went really quickly.

Binny, I really, really like that look. It looks kind of old world and has a lot of charm. You did an excellent job.
