Half Pass at MK?

We will be going on a Disney cruise in Jan. 06 and will return on a Sunday morning. We plan on disembarking our cruise, driving to WDW, letting our DS (19 months) take a nap, and then heading out to MK. That won't be until about 3pm after all of the above happens. Are there half-day passes available? I hate to pay $120 for only half of a day there. Any suggestions?

No... WDW doesn't offer partial day admission tickets to the general public. I recall they used to offer partial day tickets at one time to convention/business meeting customers, but that was the extent of it.

Also, since we're only going for half a day, how worth it is it to stay on site? Should we just save the $ and stay a bit farther (like Port Orleans), or hand over the extra dough and stay closer (like Wilderness Lodge). If we do stay on site, can we stay later at MK?

Nope, once you use that ticket..it is considered used for the entire day. Good try though

But be careful , the tickets listed expire 2005 , so as time progresses u MAY get 2006 tickets u could use.

If that is the only day you will be at WDW and a park, you may want to stay at POR or other value or Mod. Remember that the parks close earlier in January and MK may be closing at 6:00 or 7:00 that night. As for staying later if on site, only if that night happens to be night EMH for the MK.

Let your kid nap in the car from the cruise ship. It'll be about 1.5 hours from the ship to WDW. Then head to the MK. If your son is still tired, stick him in a stroller and he can nap there.

You know the marathon is Jan 8, don't you? It may be hard driving around the resort areas until about 1PM. Runners have 7 hours to complete the marathon and they start at 6AM from Epcot.

You may want to rethink MK right away in the AM anyway.

Well there are other things to do in the World. You could go over to DTD and if you want to watch the fireworks and you're not staying at a Deluxe, then head over to ft wilderness and watch the fireworks from the beach. Or go to Animal Kingdom and watch the animals. That was cooler than I thought it would be. And at night they hand out night vision goggles. You could get a little shopping out of the way. Or go to dinner at a different resort.
The only half passes I've ever heard of were for Epcot dining, where you can enter after 4pm to eat in the world showcase. But that might be an annual pass sort of thing.
I don't think you'll get too bored out of your mind if you don't get to go to the Magic Kingdom.

The Epcot dining passes are (were? don't even know if you can still get them) for Florida residents only. That and special convention passes are the only ones I've ever heard of available for partial day admission.

You're fogetting one big thing. Check-in isn't until 3:00pm. With the marathons, it's going to be a full house, and it's highly unlikely you'll get into your room early. So you might as well let your kid nap in the stroller and head right to the park when you arrive. The marathoners will be long out of the MK by then.

wdwguru: that's what I thought, but I wasn't sure.

In anycase, either you can spend the 120$ or save it for souvies.. you can get it all out of the way on that day if you wanted to. There isn't much difference between what they sell in the parks and what they sell at DTD.
For me, if it's a weekend trip go for, more time in the parks the better, but if you're on a week long trip, you should have enough time to do it all.

POR is still an "on-site" resort. Any extra hours for resort guests at Wilderness Lodge would also apply if you stayed at POR. If there are evening extra magic hours at the Magic Kingdom that day, you could go to those staying at either hotel.

In my experience, time waiting for the boat from the WL dock and then boating over to the MK is not much shorter than taking a bus from POR. I'm not sure that you'd save enough time to justify the extra expense at WL if your only criteria is a shorter trip to / from Magic Kingdom.
