Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

Wanted to add this separately. I did 12 miles yesterday at 14.45mm. It was cold!:cold:32 when I started out and 41 when I finished. I dressed in layers and when I stopped to get a new bottle of water at mile 6.5 I took off the scarf and headband (still had hood on jacket) and at mile 9.5, when I stopped at the house to get Roo for what I thought was the last two miles, I took off my thermal shirt. Should have taken off the thermal pants also. I should have had more water. I guess it was the dry cold that made me drink more. :confused3 Glad there will be plenty of water stations along the way. I don't drink much, but after mile two I like to have a few sips every mile. That works best for me.
Today is my rest day and I will take Roo out for her walk (two miles) on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday will be travel and picking up package, so I figure that will be plenty of walking. The 5K on Friday and a bit of walking at Epcot. Leisurely. No rushing or anything. I have to do some type of walking each day, I guess cause I do so much at work I am used to it. If I don't, I tighten up.

For clothes for the race.
If the high is scheduled to be in the 50s then I will wear walking pants, tshirt, jacket and two pairs of socks. One thin regular pair (to cover my ankles) and my walking socks, thicker anklets, over those. I will have a fresh pair of socks and my crocs in my checked bag.

If the high is to be in the 60s then I will wear shorts and tshirt with give away pants and jacket. I'm actually hoping for 50s, so I don't have to deal with stopping to take stuff off. I'm with Dolce, cooler weather is better, just not the COLD stuff!

Sandy, I really thought you were talking about my son! I wish he had someone to help him, but did the exact same thing. Ended up with an A in his computer class that he hadn't been too forever (but each test he aced, so the instructor called him and told him to take his final online) and all F's cause he did just that, walked away. His is medically related and we're working on trying to get things straightened out, but when they are 18, they are an 'adult' and supposed to handle all this themselves.

Patricia I'm sad to hear someone else is going thru this - its not easy being a Mom!! :grouphug: I hope you find someone to help you!!:grouphug:

Dolce did you get your ME package? If not - dont stress - if you called and you are in the computer - thats the main thing. Then when you get to baggage claim - you will pick up your luggage, there usually are Disney CM's to ask if you want to ME them to your resort -

we take our own luggage on the ME bus to the resort - I need to read up on the new ME check in -

Lisa I so appreciate you "taking one for the team"! You went out in the cold dressed appropriately - and then it went up to 50... hmmm

I also wont wear thicker socks - dh just bought the toe socks :confused3:rotfl::rotfl: he likes them!!

Lisa, my friend that is joining us from the other message board - Happy Camper - she is from Houma Louisana -

I didnt realize the 5K was in EPCOT!!

DisneyBride thanks for your continued good wishes and support!! :goodvibes

Maroo I think the duct tape is for the blister area - I'll ask dh for clarification!

Cynthia, Leisa, Tim :goodvibes Again, thank you so much for stopping in every now and then - you've been great cheerleaders!! :cheer2:

Went shopping today - WalMart - picked up hand warmers and foot warmers (for the wait - will toss them at the start) Got the LIME GREEN Scarves
so everybody that is coming to pop - try and get there at 4 - meet up outside of the Merchant area - Pop has an area to check in - then you look up and the Merchant area is HUGE - the WISH meet will be outside (or maybe not - brrrr) at 4:30 and after the picture we go inside and get our tables, get food... continue to mingle and talk - and pick up stuff people have brought (cheer team one year brought cow bells, someone brought temp. tattoos... )

Wed - 2pm visit with chiropractor - then a visit to the laundromat. Tear up the closets, try on clothes, pack repack - yell at DD - make dinner - pack re pack - yell at DD - Go to bed - probably around 3AM! :rotfl2:

Thurs - wake up gawdawful early - head to airport (snow is predicted now! :faint:) Not sure about this... maybe park at the train station, but no train on our return trip? Maybe we'll do park and ride again??? I think we are going to arrive at BCV around 3 or 3:30 - get our order from Wegoshop - then head to WOS get packet - find Chris (DH volunteered to guide a blind runner) Obsess about the weather (do I buy a tyvec suit for $20? what about new insert insoles?) Dinner at LeCellier around 6ish - back to BCV after Illuminations (maybe meet up with Maroo if we're too tired, we'll go to bed at 9!)

Friday - Do I have plans for Friday? I think DH and I want to "run around the Boardwalk" I know we want to see the MK and maybe ride a few favorites -
from MK go to Pop - - Head back to BCV (via the EPCOT or Studio bus) get our gear and snacks all set out - put our bibs on our belt - add our chip to our shoes, grab a few bags in case of rain... grab a towel from the pool area to add to sit on... :rolleyes1 Get on the bus around 2:30AM meet Chris' bus - follow the lemmings (*ahem runners!) to the Light (stage area) look at all the stage area peak at the Runner's Club - find out if they will have a prayer meeting - check bag - go thru the tent to the Runners only area - get in line (4 times total!) porta potties - sit with WISH Team - eat snack... drink water... around 4:30 - 5 (watch the area) head into the corral area...

Breath in 1, 2, 3... Out 1, 2, 3 . . .

After the race get on a bus to BCV do our laundry sleep - then head over to Epcot to walk stretch legs...:confused3 Either way we'll be at Cape May Buffet!!

Sunday - meet up with WISH'ers around 4am to get to water stop #2 Red to cheer on runners!! :cheer2: then I think if there is time head over to MK to Cheer - or maybe hang with the WISH'ers and cheer where they go -

For sure I'll be on the path to Epcot BCV Boat area!! Then I'll head over to the finish line!! :cheer2:

Friday slides into Sunday awfully fast there!!

Dislvr
Check out this thread. Has a great packing list.
http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1286620

This is the list that I use - mostly as an "outline"

I also carry chapstick, nail file, a power strip to plug in all my chargers - and I have to have a "noise machine" duct tape, granola bars, ear planes for the flight...paperwork, waivers, nametags, etc . . .

Patricia, where does your DS go to school? Most schools have some sort of petition process for late course drops due to medical reasons. If you DS is comfortable with it, ask him to contact his college office to complete a FERPA waiver. This will allow the college to tell you what is going on and you will be able to assist your DS with the paperwork. Let me know if you have questions and I might be able to help.

Dolce, I've used ME at least 5 times and I've never received the packet or luggage tags. Just take the luggage claim slips from your airline to ME and they will find your bags. As long as you are in the system you don't need the packet.

Sandy, the airline check in at the resort is so great! We used it last month and it was so nice to check our bags and not have to deal with dragging them through the airport. They arrived in Indy with us, so at this point they have a 100% success rate for us! :)

Here's my crazy plan:

Wake up at 2:30 AM on Friday morning. Wait for DH to get home from work. Leave for the airport at 3:30 AM. Catch the 5:50 AM flight, connect in ATL and arrive in MCO at 10:45 AM. Wait for my mom to arrive at 11:15 AM. Take ME to resort. Drop off carry-ons and check-in. Go to expo. Maybe try to see Wishes Friday night? Hopefully go to bed early (I think waking up at 2:30 AM will help with that!). Wake up at 2:30 AM on Saturday. Rest after the race. Do some park stuff. Get ready to come home. :( This is such a short trip this time!

Mile 10 - saddest mile - This is Jeff from Hawaii's picture - you can see runners you run under the overpass then where the trees are - that's the circle you run around those trees and up to the top of the overpass -

by the time I got to this point, there were no more runners on the road - they had been swept!

Thanks Sandy.

He goes to our local Community College and I will have to look into that waiver. Thank you for the info.

I'm looking forward to meeting up at Pop on Friday too! I don't have any lime green anything (and no wish shirt), this is our first Disney race.

You, guys: I can't believe that it's almost here! I just checked weather.com for Sunday. it says lows in the 30's and high's in the 50's. That's GREAT for running weather. I'm  over that one. It stayed in the 30's when I ran 8 miles this past Sat and felt good once I warmed up. Florida (and Texas!) 30's aren't Chicago 30's.

....now, when my IT band gets to the point to where I'm literally screaming and crying in agony when I have to bend my knee, forcing me to switch from running to walking, ... I might then think that temp range is a wee bit too cold.

But, as for running... I'm HAPPY with those temp ranges!

But bad news: It now shows rain for Friday with flight delays. :scared: You guys, I'm PETRIFIED to fly. I'm already stressing out and the flight isn't for another 4 days! When I flew home from Boston this last Oct, it was raining when we took off and we had to go into the storm clouds (thank goodness no lightening in that cloud!!). We hit turbulence while climbing. The pilot wouldn't let the flight attendants up for awhile and we had to climb another 2,000 feet than planned to get out of that mess. I was almost in tears!

Logically I know that it's safer to fly than drive. But, logically, I also know that God put my feet on ground for a reason! I'm no novice flyer! I've flown to China. I went to school in London, England. I've flown to all four corners of the United States. But the older I get, the greater my fear of flying becomes. And it's getting bad. I won't take stuff because I'm usually traveling solo and I don't want to become "loopy" or out of it due to whatever I take to calm me of my fear of flying. My co-worker suggested I purchase alcohol on this flight in order to help "calm" me. :upsidedow

Dolce  Fear of flying has been taken to a new level - esp for me in this Winter weather - I get it!! (I wont go into details, nothings happened to me - like the flight that landed in the Hudson - a once in a million - fear is irrational! but its real!!)

I know the 30 deg in FL doesnt have snow on the ground...

I have this great idea: You drive south and pick me up and then we road trip to WDW. No flying!!:banana:

Dislvr - when do you go home? Saturday or Sunday? Will you be at Cape May on Saturday? Will you be in the same corral with us? or did you have a time to submit to put you farther up?

Dolce - it will be okay. I am terrified to. Normally I drive whenever possible. But, I was trying to maximize my park time this trip. Unfortunately, hasn't worked out that way. I HATE to take off in the rain. Here is what I do. Take two Aleve after arriving to the airport. Has a calming effect, yet no other effects. When I get settled on the plane, I put my music on and turn it up loud enough to keep my attention, but not so loud my seat mate can hear it. Then when it is time for take off, I close my eyes and pray really, really hard.

Sandy - thank you

Lisa[/B] my friend that is joining us from the other message board - Happy Camper - she is from Houma Louisana -

I didnt realize the 5K was in EPCOT!!

Sandy
Is Happy Camper flying? out of New Orleans? do you know when? I'll look for her if we are on the same flight.

yes, when I signed up the 5K was to be in Animal Kingdom. I thought it would be so cool to walk through AK so early in the morning. Then about September, I noticed it had been moved to Epcot with the UP theme. Makes sense to have it in Epcot I guess, but I was really looking forward to AK.

So far, looks like E and I will be okay leaving N.O. Thursday morning. As far as I can tell, our flight originates from N.O. and the wintery mix is not to begin until around 1200 and that is for the North Shore and N.O. and the airport are on the South Shore. We will probably have some rain, but hopefully that is it.
Our flight leaves at 10:15am.

Chicago is now preparing for "blizzard like" winds and snow for THURSDAY MORNING! :faint:

the coldest this country has seen in a "quarter of a century" GREAT... just what we want to hear - NOT!

Dear Lord, can you please breathe some warm breath from the south - push that jet stream up - allow the Florida and Southern states to have their "normal" winter? So many people, their livelihoods, and our food chain is in danger - with your help dear Lord - warmer weather for all!! amen!
