Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

I'm in North Texas. We had snow yesterday morning - nothing major... it just lightly coated the ground but made for a very pretty drive to work. I'm trying to monitor the weather but to my understanding the temp's will be either in the upper 20's or the very low 30's for my 17 mile run on Saturday.

Yes, we are suppose to have snow and sleet tommorrow (Saturday) at 3:00am!

Don't think I will be up to see it. Hasn't been cold enough for any kind of accumulation but mention the word "snow" here and everyone gets in a tizzy. I am babysitting for a friend tonight and her DD is suppose to spend the night. She called last night to say they will leave the party early to come and get her so we aren't stuck with her all weekend. :rotfl2: Hello! we are in southern MS. Snow never last for more than a day or two and we never have blizzards. The low is predicted to be 35. Just not going to happen, at least not this time. Now Maroo on the other hand could actually see a bit of accumulation.

I did 6 miles last night in 79 minutes. Not bad for not "walking" for two weeks. I am scheduled to do 10 miles on Sunday with my friend E. We'll see about the weather.

Got another bit of good news yesterday. We have a huge inspection at work next week and I was told yesterday that I WILL NOT be inspected. :woohoo:
This is excellant news. I have been stressing big time over this. Most of my files are still packed up from when we moved in January and I can't find everything that was being required. Huge relief. :goodvibes

I GOT A BIB NUMBER!! :cool1:

eyor, sandy: If you haven't already made it to the WISH boards, here's the link to print off your waiver and get your number.

eyor: Congrats on those 6 miles last night! I'm sure you'll get out there and do those 10 tomorrow. (if I have to, you have to ;) )

Sandy is probably laughing at us for freakin' out over the weather since this ain't nothing compared to what she is accustomed to. :teeth: Happy to hear about the good news you received at work! :goodvibes

Hi everyone! just a drop by to say :thumbsup2 to all your hard work. Sandy I hope the foot is better and sending :goodvibes to your DH for his interview!

Sandy- Sorry to hear about all that is going on. I hope you can get back on track. Less than 2 months to go!!!!!

Hello all!
I'm back. Loved Disney! It was wonderful as usual. Had a great time even though I did get sick. Not H1N1, but sinuses. :headache: Slowed me down but didn't stop me.

Tim - way to go on getting to the gym. Come on 199!:cheer2: You can do it. :cheer2:
I hope you had a great time in Disney!!!!! Sorry you weren't feeling up to par.

I hit the gym today but I couldn't even run a mile. I ate oatmeal for breakfast (bad move) and it was like a rock in my stomach. I guess I have to find the happy medium between eating and not before I try to run. If I hit 199 before the end of the year it would be a miracle. I weighed 202 this morning.

It is supposed to snow here tomorrow. They are calling for 3-6 inches. People go coo-coo here the first storm of the year. At least it is going to be on a weekend. (although I'll be out working at a wedding when it is supposed to get bad)

I can't imagine running with the temps in the 20's. Do you wear something over your mouth? Good luck on your run!!!

Hi Sandy! I was checking out the PTR boards to see if I could find anyone who will be there marathon weekend and I found you. I'll come back soon to finish reading. I've only read through page 4!

Kicked dd off computer for a moment - diagnosis is in... my hip pain - its

Trochanteric Bursitis :faint:

DH says I have to stop drinking and start taking anti inflamatory drugs (:rotfl: ok I'm not a lush, but when I heard that, I did make a homemade pizza, and pour myself a glass of wine - I'll start tomorrow.... :surfweb: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/309286-treatment

:grouphug:

Thanks you so much for continued prayers for DH - if he doesnt get something soon - we are going to have to leave this place - and we just cant even think, or go there... Have Mercy dear Lord....

speaking of Mercy, I have to throw myself on the mercy of the courts. I got a traffic ticket. Mainly because dh didnt put our proof of insurance in my car (minor error on his part - he put both of them in his car!! Bless his heart!!) so I was pulled over for improper passing (I passed a stupid car going 10 miles an hour in a 30mph zone - and I was going 25 FREAKIN mph - BUT... dagnabbit my left rear tire touched the yellow line going to the post office :sad2:) I'm going to bring pictures of the sign that points to a 3 lane zone, and throw myself on the mercy of the courts...

Hope to update later - when dh comes home with the laptop.

DD still wants to adopt a dog (can we please wait till after Disney?)

I also have to make a photo book for my mom - that is taking longer than I thought possible - Walgreens is having a 25% off promo - expires tomorrow (I uploaded to Wolf Camera site - but its 25 pages and they want $20 Walgreens w/ coupon is $10!) criminitly it takes time - and to think of the words for the photo....

I cannot believe its snowing in HOUSTON!! (my brother whom we've just reconnected lives there!) Ft Myers FL is all sunshine - mom is grateful for the cold front of 75 deg :rotfl:

oh, and yes, I did a mile - and with the windchill its just 10 deg above zero -

come on people, just add more layers!! (my head is completely covered - you may have seen those hood neck thingy's on Home Shopping QVC - they are a must up here in the cold frozen north!!)

this is a must!!

Well, that's just craptastic!!!

In 1998, when we got home from our short term mission in Ecuador, we forgot to reinstate insurance on our car that we had suspended for our time away. I got in a minor fender bender (as in it hardly ANY damage to either his or my cars) and they suspended my license for A YEAR!!!!!!! :scared1:

Yup, with 3 little kids and being pregnant, I lost my license becuase of a stupid mistake. Not to be a killjoy, but we did go to court, and lost. It was a real Suckorama!!!

Aw Man, Sandy! That is horrible.

I am so sorry to hear about all of that. :(

How is everyone else doing? We enjoyed our snow this weekend!!

I was able to get 3 miles in on Thursday and - 5.6 miles - my highest yet - on Saturday!! I was planning to 5...then decided I would do 5.5...and added the tenth of the mile at the end to be the .1 after the 13. :)

So I am pretty excited. It has been several weeks...I have lost 6 pounds and and am almost up to 6 miles! :cool1:

Thank you all for all of your encouragement!! :)

Sandy,
Did you get the ticket for improper passing or lack of proof of insurance? The insurance thing should get dropped if you bring your card to court. Good luck with the improper passing thing. My DH is a police officer and he always complains about his fellow officers writing tickets for that sort of thing. Be sure to update us about your DH's job search!

Our WDW trip was great, even if my DH is a reluctant WDW visitor. He wants to spend so much time relaxing by the pool and that just drives me crazy. I am glad that I know I have two more trips coming up or I think I would have lost it with him. I'll be working on a full trip report over the next few days.

I haven't run a step in over two weeks now. Yikes. I think it is going to be tough to run tonight, but I have to get those miles in. I think I have a 10 miler scheduled for this weekend. That should be interesting. I also really need to work on losing some weight, so I'm going to try to start a post-Disney diet this week. I need to lose about 20 pounds, but I have such a difficult time losing weight when I'm training. The problem is I am always training now!

I live near Sandy, so I also get to run in snow and ice. I honestly don't mind the snow and the cold, but I hate feeling like I could fall on the ice at anytime. I have to run on the treadmill during the week because I won't run outside in the dark, but I do my long runs outside no matter how bad the weather is. I've run in some crazy winter weather!

DH goes back to night shift this week after two years on days. I'm hoping it isn't as tough as of transition as I'm expecting it to be.

I've got a ton of emails to catch up on, so I better get to work!

I'll check this out at home tonight. I'm trying to be good at work during the day.
I only did 8.5 on Saturday. I'll explain below.

I used to have the same problem until Dolce told me to try a cereal bar. Just the right amount for energy, but not too much food. Works great.

Yes, add more layers. That is what I did Saturday and it worked well. I put a scarf over my mouth.
Sorry about the ticket. How could it be improper passing if you didn't go over the speed limit. Or was it a solid yellow line? That happened to me once. A car was barely moving, Obviously lost and I passed them. No one else around but a cop. :sad2:

Well, that's just craptastic!!!

Way to go Maroo!:cheer2: Keep pushing along and you can do it.

I hadn't walked to over two weeks and I got back into rather easily. You should be fine. Just start slow and stop if it gets to hard. The next day will be easier.
Be careful in that weather. :cold:

E and I did 8.5 miles in 121 minutes. She can't go as fast as I can, nor as far. We were in her neighborhood and I had parked at her house, so I felt kind of funny to keep walking after she went in. She was pushing it to finish 8 miles. I actually did .5 farther than her as she went in once for a potty break. I did circles in her driveway until she came back out. But I felt great. That put us at about 15 minutes miles and I wasn't even tired. We did do a lot of hills, big hills, and it was cold. 35 when I left my house and 41 when I returned. I did layer up and pulled my scarf over my mouth occasionally. Dd and I are suppose to walk in the town Christmas parade tonight with her dance school. About 3-3.5 miles. But it is raining and suppose to rain all day today and tomorrow. The parade will probably be postponed until next week, which would be okay with me. I need to finish decorating the house as our big Christmas party is this Saturday night. :goodvibes

Sandy: ugh. I’m sorry that things keep going wrong for you right now! It has to turn soon. I think you’ve hit your max number and for the next few months everything will be good. As for the ticket: if it was for lack of insurance, you should be fine in court since you do have insurance on the vehicle. They’ll just need for you to prove it.

Maroo: Excellent job on your 5.6! :thumbsup2

dlsvr: Welcome back! Glad that you had a great time. Good luck on your 10 miles this week-end. Just pick up your weekly miles this week to transition back into running and hopefully you’ll do fine on the 10 this Saturday.

Eyor: great job for getting out in the cold and getting in 8.5! I wound up doing my 17 yesterday instead of Saturday but it was more than the weather that made that decision (but the weather did play a factor in the decision). Starting out yesterday morning was cold and windy (upper 30’s moving into the 40’s). I had on a hat and gloves with my running jacket. (the jacket isn’t a “jacket”, just a thin zip-up cover that is so light-weight you can see my shirt underneath). After two miles the gloves were off, the hat was flipped-up and the jacket was unzipped some. However, as soon as I started walking again the gloves were back on, the hat was back down and the jacket was zipped right back up! :rotfl2:

As for my training:

Well, I’m currently injured but I’m praying that it’s a temporary thing. I ran my scheduled 17 miles yesterday. I wound up not doing the run on Saturday. Too many things going on plus the fact that the temp was going to be in the 20’s on Sat but 10 degrees higher yesterday morning. Yes, that little fact helped convince me to move the run to yesterday. The problem: I ran in a new location on a terrain that my body wasn’t accustomed to running. I knew there was a good sized hill at this location and expected to have problems with it. I was actually looking forward to the hill as it was one that curved to the side and mimicked an overpass on the freeway (thinking of those overpasses at Disney). What I didn’t realize until running this loop was that about 80% of it was at a gradual incline. There was some down hill but way more uphill than downhill. I’d only walked this route once. Running it was entirely different. That constant gradual incline put serious stress on my legs. My old route did have incline and small hills – but nothing constant such as this.

My mile calculation was off – apparently I was around mile 18.3 when the injury occurred. Had the injury not occurred, I probably would have done about 19 1/2 miles by accident. This location has a marked map online which I’ve now gone back to determine my actual mileage from yesterday. However, when running I was actually cutting the mileage short in my head just to make it easier to keep up with what mile I was on. 17 … 191/2 … ummmm, yeah. My mental calculations were seriously off. So, at just over 18 miles, my knee gave out on me. It’s a knee that I haven’t had any problems with – part of the reason for my optimism that it just needs a few days rest and will be good to go. It’s my other leg that has giving me problems during this training and it held up fine yesterday.

At mile 18.3 I had to slow down to a walk for a few seconds as I was already feeling some discomfort in that knee. I stepped off to start running again and was feeling serious pain. I had to stop as I couldn’t move or put any weight on that knee. I admit it. I burst into tears for a moment. It was a combination of serious pain plus pure frustration that I was almost done with what I wanted to run for the day but having the realization that I couldn’t complete the run. Also, I guess factor in exhaustion as I just hit three solid hours of running. It was a 1 mile walk back to my car. It was cold, in the low 40’s and lightly raining, and that was one long, miserable walk. I stopped twice to stretch out and I had to stop a couple of times when my knee locked up on me. I think it’s the IT band. It couldn’t handle that type of terrain and with that long of a run so it just gave out on me. I park in a parking garage at home and had to take the stairs. I couldn’t walk down the stairs, I couldn’t bend that knee. I wound up descending the stairs backwards.

So, I’m taking it easy for the next few days. I’m going to try to do a 5 miler on Wed on a relatively flat terrain. I’m praying that my knee is up for it. I only have two long runs left: 18 miles this Sat and 20 mile next Sat. I think that I’ll just drive back to my old training location. I don’t need to be doing that much incline for long distance when my body isn’t used to it. However, I may go back to the new location during my two week taper since the mileage is low. That type of terrain will help condition my body better so I do still want to run it – just not as many miles at once!

My knee is a lot better today, but still stiff and hurting a lot. So, fingers crossed that it will be fine with a couple of days rest.

Dolce - Oh no! I am so, so sorry about your knee injury!!! :sad2: Please keep us posted! We will pray that it gets better very soon!

:thumbsup2 Got my Bib number, and dh printed off the waivers!

Went to court yesterday - they "continued" until Jan 4... how nervewracking. I took a picture (while driving :sad2: out my front window - no yellow line!! and the signage has the 3 lanes 2 straight arrows one right curve - I passed on the left... the court clerk and court sherrif heard my trembly voice and said to get a court day - and the policeman probably wont show, unless he gets a major case on the 4th so it will be dismissed) 3 days before Disney :faint: I did go to the DMV and get a legal "ID" 'just in case'!

Leisa a whole year? I'm sure you must've questioned God - was this a way of making you slow down? or just a "learn from your mistakes" moment?

Dolce go to Walgreens and buy one of the neoprene knee braces - just in case - I sprained my knee and I think I was more "afraid of the possiblity" of getting hurt on the run, then reality - dh got it for me, and I still wear it from time to time if I feel my knee "might pop out" It doesnt!! DS used it while he was training for his Tri and he also slipped - he really liked it! (he didnt need it for the tri, but was glad I had it for him for the training runs)

dslvr Glad you are still around!! Be careful on the route - I think you are scheduled for snow too!!

Lisa and Maroo - well everyone!! :cool1: :cheer2: :yay: :woohoo:

Glad you are all around and posting your successes - and your slow and steady miles!! WOOHOO!!

Tim dh gets his oatmeal in after his workout (he goes to the Y at 5am, he eats a banana and maybe some cheerios! and water!!)

Hey Sandy!!!!!!

Good tip about the breakfast. I ate about a 1/3 of a bowl of cereal before I went to the gym yesterday and I ran my 2 miles!!!!!!!:yay:

I did almost 3 miles in 30 minutes. I walked .2, ran 2, then walked until I hit 30 minutes. I think I did a total of 2.9 miles. I was happy. Then I did some weights for a while. My DW ran 1 1/2 miles and she told me she has never been able to do that.

It sounds like you have all your ducks in order to go to court. I hope they just throw it out (I think they will) or the cop doesn't show up. It is nerve racking though.

How have you been feeling otherwise? How's your training going?:surfweb:

I'm trying to get Christmas presents bought, made, etc. I went to a cookie exchange - and now I have to make cookies for our friends, and family! Tonight DD has her band Concert - and I have to bring a plate of "goodies" to share! I'm also trying to knit scarves for the dil and gf. GF found out I'm making a gingerbread house - and she begged me to wait till she could come over and make one with me... fine, sounds like fun! Her mom called and asked if I could come over (they have a bigger home!) and let her and her other dd make houses too!! (she was very kind, she offered to come here wants to not interfere with any "traditions" with dd etc) So now I have to make 3 or 4 more batches of gingerbread!! :rotfl: (and btw the Disney recipe for gingerbread cannot be right!! No molasses? no brown sugar? no way!)

I havent got our tree "up" yet. There is so much to do, and so much worrying. I just got another notice from a lawyer, apparantly a bill I havent paid (or even remember) is suing me on Friday is a court date - $1300 dollars (rounded up) I cant even tell dh about this one. I'm afraid since we dont have the money, if I dont show up, they'll put me in jail.

so I'm not training really - trying to get a mile in now and then - until the pain is just too much... ice and heat and naproxin (and no alcohol... which is a good thing, I can imagine with all this stress I'd like a martini to numb the crap going on... I just will take a page from Scarlet -

I'll think about it tomorrow!!

Sandy,
I didn't want to get your hopes up in my earlier message, but now that you know that the case will be dismissed if the officer doesn't show, I'll mention that it is highly unlikely the officer will be there. They hate going to court and will generally skip it for something this minor. ESPECIALLY if Jan 4 happens to be the officer's day off. I think you are going to be okay on that one.

Can someone really take you to court on such short notice? Are you sure there isn't some sort of mistake here? I think you need to look for some sort of legal aid service and talk to a lawyer. The whole situation seems rather fishy to me. I also suggest posting more details on the budget board (if you haven't already). I think you will get some great advice there.

Since you have a college student in the house, I also wanted to ask if Ryan has done any sort of emergency FAFSA update with UIC's financial aid office. If your DH lost his job since your last filed taxes, you may be eligible for more (or some) aid due to the change in your family's income. It is something worth looking into.

Back to me :lmao: - I didn't run last night. I was just too tired and ended up in bed at 8:00! I'm going to run tonight and Thursday and shoot for 9 miles (probably in the snow, ugh) on Saturday. I really should have taken yesterday off as I know that I am always exhausted after returning from WDW. Lesson learned for next time!

Sandy! That is just an awful situation!! I can't believe that you could be taken to court without some other warnings or notices!! Like the PP said, sounds fishy to me too.

I'm so, so sorry your foot and hip? are in so much pain. My excuses are so much less than yours and you still keek trying to get miles in!! :worship:

I love making gingerbread houses!! But lately, I"ve defaulted to cookie houses. I know, lazy, lazy... But, whatever...

Sandy, you haven't been able to get any info on this bill such as when it was "due" and what it is for? I agree to seek some legal advice ASAP and don't skip out on a court date. Don't make the situation any worse for yourself. But today, try to seek some legal council. Don't put this off in fear.
