Hakuna Matata Pass the BodyGlide Before My Thighs Catch on Fire July

Hi team!

Robbie - I can't remember which building I was in this year but it was quite close to the food court and bus stops. I think it was a prefered building though because that was all I could get for free dining. It was by the quiet pool bowling pin pool which actually wasn't all that quiet in the afternoon.

Yes you and BIL are on the list for both! I was thinking of 'Ohana but maybe after the race.

AFM - I went to the gym last night and tried that July workout challenge again: 100 strides on the elliptical at 12, 20 burpees, 20-20lb medicine ball slams and a plank exercise combined with moving weights back and forth. I got the same time as last week. D'oh! I thought I did better too so I was disappointed. My chiro was telling me the person in the lead weighs about 110 lbs so he said she had an "advantage" LOL I said I was just hoping to knock a few seconds off my time - I didn't think I could beat her if that was the case.

I'm hoping to go for a quick run after work. Hopefully it won't be as hot as it was yesterday. I walked out of the office yesterday and the hot air reminded me of when you'd open the door to a hot oven. I think the weather forecasters were saying that with the humidity, the temps felt like 105F (41C). Phew!

Hope everyone is having a great day :)

Posted a lengthy message earlier but it seems to have been lost when the boards went down to remember Mackey Mouse.

Hope everyone is doing well and I'll catch up again later this evening.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I hear all sorts of good things about Trader Joe’s, but we do not have any near us, maybe soon though!

Kimberly - Good job on your long run!

Elizabeth - I did not realize boards went down to remember Marcia, that was very nice!

AFM - Yesterday we both did our exercise on the spin bike, today we did a 30 mile ride, into town, which means we had to climb a monster hill on the way back, but had a tail wind, so it was not as bad as it usually is!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hello team!

Vicky - I made smores cupcake. I did a test rest a couple weeks ago and then I made a batch Monday night to take to work. They turned out better the second time, I also made them minis instead of regular size which I liked better. We have lot a Trader Joe's out here. I don't go often but they def have unique stuff. I've found that sometimes I can get cheese and other groceries cheaper there than other stores. Also, they have a lot of tempting goodies. DH really likes their triple ginger snaps and I like their dark chocolate pomegranate seeds.

Kimberly - Great race report!

Elizabeth - Glad you're feeling better.

Robbie - I was in one of the 50s building, facing the bowling pin pool, on the second floor I think last January. I don't remember it being too loud. I think the 60s buildings are closest to the main hall but they are also next to the main pool.

Rick - Glad Christi is ok.

AFM - Been keeping up with the running, though it was very hot here last week. We went to see the play War Horse last weekend. It was good, the puppetry was really cool.

Pixie dust to all who need it.

Have a good night!
Emily

Good morning, everyone,

I got up early to do some core exercises and thought I would post before I start.

Emily: Are you doing all of your training outside right now?

Robbie and Kimberly: Way to go on your training!

Vicky: I always seem to get something different when I go to TJ's. The Daily Meal has some great articles about the best and worst food there. Yes, I'm recovered from my stomach virus and it appears our house is also virus free. My running is going well but I'm still not seeing significant changes in my times. I plan to work on speed next week. The focaccia recipe is next on my list to try!

Dave: How much is your injury setting back your race training?

Lynn, Kim, and everyone else: Hi!

Re POP: It is a fun resort for race weekends. We also stayed there with the kids our first visit. It is my first choice when I know I won't be spending a great deal of resort time. The buildings closest to the food court/main bldg are the noisiest, since they are also close to the main pool. We've stayed in the 80s section, which is quiet and not a bad walk to the buses or food court (also near a smaller pool). The variety of the food is better than at the other values and there is plenty of seating. Fridge and free Wi-fi in all the rooms now. Mousekeeping is good and I enjoy the 2 mile trail around Hourglass Lake. Not sure how the new A of A resort has changed the trail, though.

AFM: Headed to the beach this weekend to make up for the trip cut short earlier this month. Going to try my runs on the sand. Should be fun!

Hi everyone!

Elizabeth - Careful with your ankles running on the sand. When I was playing beach volleyball, I found there wasn't much traction on the sand and it was slippery. Thank you for the link to the Daily Meal! I'm off to check it out after I finish posting! Let me know how the focaccia turns out :)

Emily - I've been hearing good things about War Horse. It's also playing in Toronto but I haven't made it out yet. The S'mores cupcakes sound great! Was it someone's birthday at work or was it just for fun? I'll ask my friend to keep an eye out for the ginger snaps and pomegranate seeds. Those sound yummy!

Lynn - Wow! You and Scott keep racking up the miles! Awesome job!

Rick - I'm going to wish you good luck on the RnR half this weekend. I'm going to have limited access to Internet starting tonight so I probably won't have a chance to post. Can't wait to hear about it!

AFM - I went to my local running store last night to run with them. They have an annual even where they give away a free running hat so really.. that's why I went  They had a couple of different groups heading out - one was walking a 5K, one was running or walking for 20 minutes, another was doing 10K and the one I went with was running a 5K. I picked the 5K because I was meeting a friend for dinner and the 10K would have been too long. Well my watch died just before I started and I was watching the group to see when they would take a walking break. The Running Room is known for their training groups which do 10/1 intervals. I had only trained up to 4/1 but figured I'd be ok going 10/1.

Well, the route they picked had rolling hills and it was hot! I think we made it half way through and I asked the group leader why they weren't stopping. I figured it had been about 10 minutes. He said "Oh Wednesday is the day we run faster so we don't do walking breaks." Great. Thanks for letting everyone know it was a continuous run.

I stopped once for a walking breaking but the rest of the run back to the store was downhill so I figured I'd just run the rest. I did finish the 5K in 28 minutes - funny thing was, in that group half were a good 5 minutes ahead and the rest were 5 minutes behind. So I was running by myself for most of the run. Go figure! Maybe my running clothes were stinky  Oh well!

Oh and I have a new recipe for Orange Honey Madeleines. They're kind of like a cross between a cookie and a cake. Kind of like a tea cake maybe? Check it out!

Have a great weekend everyone! I'm going to have limited Internet access starting tonight so I'll catch up with everyone on Monday! Stay hydrated and keep running!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Will check out the Orange Honey Madeleines!

Elizabeth - Hi!

Emily - S’more cupcakes sound great! How about the recipe?

AFM - Scott had a coffee date in town with one of his buddies, so I sent him off on his bike alone (he does not get to push himself as long as he rides with me), and I did 20 miles around the house. He is not back yet, so we have not watched todays Tour yet.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

I'm going away for a four day whirlwind weekend tomorrow morning - two days in boston and two in teh adirondacks, so I wanted to wish Rick good luck on his half and to all have enjoyable, safe and satisfying runs, bike rides, weekends, etc!:thumbsup2

Liz, yes it has, I don't know I will race again. I was hoping to be back to racing the 28th of July and if not then Aug 11th. My important senior olympic trials are on Oct 7th. My body is ready for battle if that left achillies will come around.

We are staying at Pop for January as well as Sept. The cost difference between Port Orleans and Pop was $600, that made the Pop seem like a better choice.

Have a restful evening y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Can't go back to sleep so I thought I would post before my weekend starts.

Vicky: I hope that hat is a good one. I never seem to find the right running group but I'm often swayed by the free swag too ;) Thanks for the alert about running on sand; I decided to research it a bit after reading your post and found some great articles on technique to avoid injury. Enjoy your weekend!

Dave: I'm sending pixie dust for a complete recovery by 7/28. Keep us posted. Another plus for POP: the bus transportation is usually very good. I had better luck with buses there than I did at POFQ or WL. Who is caring for Nemo while you are at Disney?

Lynn: Saw Scott's fb post. Did he entice you on a longer ride today with a bakery stop?

Kimberly: Enjoy the trip; it sounds like fun!

Rick: Good luck this weekend; can't wait to read the race report!

AFM: We are headed to the beach later today. I'm looking forward to the wind, the sun, and the waves. I can feel myself relaxing already.

Enjoy the weekend, all!

Morning everyone!

I'm back from my visit with the grandgals. Got plenty of exercise while I was there (a trip to the zoo one day; swimming another) but didn't get out to run until yesterday. Ken and I are signed upfor a 4 mile race tomorrow (Miles for MV athletes...benefits the high school athletic dept.) Should be hot, so will try to hydrate today.

Dave...Where will your senior olympic trials take place? I was hoping you might make it up to my neck of the woods for the Evansville half marathon that day, but I guess it's not meant to be.

Sadly I must let you all know that I will not be in WDW for the half in January. I have decided to do the Princess in Feb. instead. I am coming down with a girl friend and this will be her first race ever! Haven't registered yet, but going to call DVC tomorrow to see about getting a room. Fingers crossed for Bay Lake Towers!

Good Afternoon Team!

Kimberly - Have a great weekend!

Elizabeth - We did a long ride, but without the bakery stop - I prefer to eat breakfast before I go, and then come home and have some leisurely cups of coffee. Have fun at the beach!

Mary - Good luck on your race tomorrow!

AFM - Yes, we did another 30 mile ride, then sat and watched the Tour. It is hot here also, have to get out early for the exercise!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Can't believe it! I was walking into orchestra practice and tripped on uneven sidewalk and fell. Skinned both knees, but even worse, I bent my big toe backwards and hurt the joint at the base of my toe. It's a little swollen and really sore. Hope I can run the race tomorrow. I've iced it so we'll see... Worse case, the race goes right past my house, so if need be and can peel off, and call it a day!

Good Afternoon Team!

Mary - PD for your toe, hope you were able to race this morning!

AFM - Today we watched the Tour first, then went out for "heat training", 85F when we started, 91F when we finished, did 16 miles today, that gives me 138 miles for the week. Tomorrow, as it is the last day of the Tour, will be a "rest" day (I put that in quotes, because I would not be surprised if Scott decides that we need a ride afterwards again).

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Happy racing to all who are racing!

Made it through the race fine. Toe was a little stiff, and by the last mile I was slowing down, but still finished. It's feeling even better today, (Sunday). This is a rest day, so should be back to normal for tomorrow's run. Heading north today (Indianapolis area) for our granddaughter's fifth birthday!

Thanks Lynn for the pixie dust!

Good Sunday morning y'all.

Mary, glad you had a good race even with a banged up toe. We will miss you in january but your plans sound like a lot of fun.

Liz, we board our animals at their Vet, they are manned 24 hours a day and take good care of the little guys. Nemo might feel abandoned the first time and I hate that but he needs to get used to puppy camp since we do a lot of traveling during the year.

I'm getting a little better every day again. Still not a 100%, far from it after that last setback. It appears that the change in my PT perscribed exercise is helping. Basicly not putting my full body weight on the bad tendon for exercises. Still not race walking but going to try to do some intervals tomorrow.

Everyone have an awesome day and remember that magic is all around us if we but have the courage to see it.

Dave:hippie:

Good Afternoon Team!

Mary - Glad to hear you made it thru the race! Have fun at granddaughter’s birthday!

Dave - Glad to hear the change in PT has helped!

AFM - Today really was a rest day - at least so far! We took care of neighbors dogs, took our dogs for their early morning walk around the block, then watched the last day of the Tour, cleaned our bicycles, and washed the car. As it is still hot, I will probably spend my afternoon scrapbooking in our cool basement.

Well, the Rock-n-Roll Chicago Half Marathon is in the books! :)

I can't say that it was one of my best runs. In fact, it is becoming clear to me that I am a cold weather runner because humidity is my Kryptonite! It was 75-83F and very humid. I ran and I walked -- mostly walked with friends though. I met a bunch fellow Half Fanatics who I got to chat with during the race which really made the race fun!

I finished in 2:59 -- not my slowest finish but close. LOL But given the weather and my medial meniscus issue with my left knee, I can't complain. The medal is cool and around my neck. So Yay!!!

Now it is back to marathon training.... and time to ice the knee.

Good Morning Team!

Rick - Congrats on finishing the half marathon - I understand about the heat, my best race was an Atlanta Rock and Roll, it was cool and drizzling.

AFM - We got out early for bike ride before it got too hot - 26 miles today.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!
