Hakuna Matata Pass the BodyGlide Before My Thighs Catch on Fire July

Happy fourth of July everyone! I wish we got today off as well :)

Dave - Have a good training walk! Stay cool!

Kim - Sometimes if there are elements you like from a couple training plans, you can just put together your own. That's what I ended up doing for Goofy last year. There's a lot of debate on whether the B2B LRs are needed. What I did last year was two weeks of B2B LR and then on the third week, I'd do a cut back week so half the mileage of previous week. So it might look something like:

Week A - 7 miles/14 miles
Week B - 7.5 miles/15 miles
Week C - 3.5 miles/ 7.5 miles
Week D - 8 miles/16 miles

If you're not doing B2B or LRs every week, you should aim for at least 3 weekdays of running. Show us the plan that you're thinking of and then it will be easier for us to give you feedback :)

Robbie - I'll add you to the list for WCC! I think we have a really good group going! Did I mention I'm jealous you get today off too :)

Lynn - The temps are really high here too so hiding indoors seems like a good idea. Last week, I had lunch with a friend outside and I was sweating just sitting in the shade. Friday is suppose to be the hottest day of the week - a high of 95F but feels like 111F. Phew!

Regina/Mike/Emily - I'll be calling in later today for Goofy's Kitchen. I'll let you know what happens.

AFM - It was suppose to rain yesterday evening. It got quite cloudy out so I went out for a quick 3 miler. It was still incredibly humid, I was almost hoping it would start raining but no such luck. I'm off to the gym tonight and then back home where it's cool.

The hottest day this week is suppose to be Friday. It's going to be a high of 95F (35C) but it's suppose to feel like 111F (44F). What?! You know when I make bread and I let it proof (rise) in the oven, it's already 100-110F. Yikes! I guess if I make bread on Friday, I'll just let it proof outside LOL Probably not though because, I don't want to turn on the oven when it's that hot.

Ok Goofy's Kitchen (Disneyland) at 12PM on Sept 2 is confirmed. :thumbsup2 If you change your minds, please let me know. Please & thank-you!

If anyone else wants to join us, just make a reservation around the same time and we can have them "joined" by the hostess when we check-in to dine.

Hello, everyone,

Just finished a hot, sweaty 4 miles. I missed a few runs earlier this week (kids have a stomach virus) so it was nice to get out there even if it feels like I'm in Hades. We cut our beach trip short and canceled our plans for fireworks/music tonight since the girls are still not 100%. We might try to see Brave later today if they feel like it.

Vicky: If it is not too late, please add 2 for Whispering Canyon dinner on Sunday. Hopefully, I'll still be able to move after my first full. ;)

Good Afternoon Team! Happy 4th of July!

Vicky - I have been avoiding cooking anything in the oven too!

Kim - Happy Birthday to your son!

Robbie - Hope you enjoyed Canada Day.

AFM - Today I got out for dog walk early, but wind picked up early blowing in smoke from fires, so we bagged the bike ride today - did not want to be out in all that smoke. Will try to get down to basement to spin bike today. Spent the morning watching the Tour then working on scrapbooking the last trip (I have just printed out all the pictures I want to use, now need to organize all the stuff we got on the trip - then I will be ready to start!)

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Good morning all!!!!!

Lynn: You guys be careful out there those fires have been going on for a long time eh? I hope they get it under control soon feel so bad for all those who have lost property and hopefully all are safe. So when is the next big adventure?

Dave and Vicky. I happened upon a plan that someone sent me back when trainning for the 2010 Goofy I think it was Connie, it is ment for walkers but I think I can easily convert it for intervals. Mike and I looked it over last night and really seem to think it will work with some tweaking.

Rick: Hey how is the conference?

Everyone be careful with that heat out there wow this is crazy. Been sticking to the TM for intervals and walks just way to hot out there. I believe I am going outside for my LSD on Sat but we will be out pre-6AM to beat the heat.

Hi to everyone!!!!!

Rick: Hey how is the conference?

Pretty good! The legislative sessions start today. The days have been full so I have only gotten 5 hours of sleep the past two days. I went on runs both yesterday morning and this morning at 5:30am. It is very hot and humid out here (it was 104F yesterday afternoon). Morning temps around 77F and high humidity makes for slower running. Today was much more humid during the run but I got in 4.5 miles at a 10:15/mm pace. WooHoo!

Now I am getting cleaned up and ready to go to the first Legislative session at 8AM.

I hope everyone has an awesome day. If you are in a city with hot/humid weather, make sure you stay hydrated and wear sunscreen if you have to be outdoors for a length of time (like going for a run) :)

Rick: I hope the lack of sleep is because you are having a great time and don't want to waste it sleeping:thumbsup2 Then it is OK, but insomnia sucks. I don't get it often but when I do wipes me right out.

I hope you take your own advise, stay hydrated!!!

Yes, the lack of sleep is due to fitting so much stuff in during a given day. :) And water and PowerAde are my friends during this Conference! LOL

Hi team! It's another scorcher today! Phew! I believe I will be doing a slow 3 miler after work or just running on the TM. Keep drinking water and hydrating everyone, even if you're not working out. It's important!

Rick - Glad the conference is going well! That's pretty cool that you got to meet up with Kipp! What did you think of the Spiderman movie? I saw it last night. I thought the bad guy was really lame but liked Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. It was okay but definitely a different take on Peter Parker.

Kim - I think I will have to get out early as well. I'm so not a morning person :( (You knew that though) :)

AFM - I worked out at the gym last night and did a bunch of metabolic exercises and weights. There was an exercise challenge posted in the gym that I tried. It was tough. I'll post it on my blog and Facebook page later if anyone's interested in trying it out. It was tough but I know how fit some of you are :) I saw Spiderman last night and thought it was okay - I liked the trailers for Batman and Total Recall.

For my blog today, I made 'Ohana's Pineapple Breakfast Bread. If you've ever been there for breakfast, you'll know what I'm talking about. Delish! If you want to check it out, it's here.

Good Afternoon Team!

Vicky - Scott printed out your recipe, so we will probably try it one of these days.

Kim - Fires are quite a ways from us, so we are not in danger of losing our house as many others have, but they have effected air quality, today is not bad, cannot smell smoke in the air today. Next big adventure will be DL 1/2 weekend, we will do the 5K and cheer on folks for the half.

Rick - Glad you are having a good time at your conference.

AFM - Got out early today for 16 miles before breakfast, there is a bike club ride this evening we are planning to go do - depending upon the forecast thunder storms. It is getting cooler, we will be back to the 70’s F for a few days before heading back up to the 80’s. Rain is also in the forecast for the next few days, we need it badly.

The same from us!

We again got out on a bike ride for 18 miles today. That puts me over my 100 miles for the week. It has been cooler today, and is forecast for even cooler tomorrow (highs in the mid 70'sF), so relief is on the way to the rest of you!

Good Morning Team!

It is much cooler here, hope it cools off for the rest of you soon! It rained last night so the streets were wet, and it was misting this morning when I took the dogs for a walk, but we decided to take the cyclocross bikes out anyway - and got in 11 miles before breakfast. Now it is time for food and COFFEE! Tour does not start until late, so no Tour with breakfast.

Have a great day all!

Hello team!

Regina - Yeah, I'm going to try the cupcakes again. I'm planning to take the next batch into work. Congrats on the new job!

Vicky - Thanks for making the Goofy's ressie! I tried your baked oatmeal recipe last weekend and its was sooo good.

Lynn - Glad the weather is starting to cool down for you. I hope the wildfires get under control soon.

Kimberley/Rick - Hope your races went well.

AFM - We had an 8 mile LR yesterday. It went well. We started about 7am so it wasn't too hot.

The holes in our kitchen were patched up. Instead, they made a hole in the outside wall to fix the pipe. They did that after patching up our walls so that caused a new crack to form, don't know if they are going to fix it. We're also waiting for them to re-install our dishwasher since they had to take that out too.

Have a good day!
Emily

Well, today was my first DNS!

I did not run the 5K scheduled for today because my wife was hospitalized on Thursday so I had to leave my conference in Indy (where the race was) to come home to be with her and the kids.

The good news is that my wife is fine and came home tonight!

So my first DNS (because I was not in Indy at the time of the race) was anti-climatic and for the most appropriate of reasons. So now the only question is: what do I do with the race t-shirt (not technical)?

This race was sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women. And guess what? A priest friend of mine (a Boston marathoner) in Chicago came in first, and my Bishop came in second!! The Bishop told me that I should have been here so that we could have taken the 1, 2, and 3 slots. LOL

So I have the remainder of this week at the Conference, with three training runs planned in the hot early mornings. Can't wait to get home on Friday!

Hi team! Happy Monday! Weekends are always too short!

Rick - pixiedust: for Christi! If you're not superstitious, you can wear the t-shirt. I know some people who won't wear the shirt if they haven't done the race. You could always put it in the clothing donation bin if you're worried. I know other people who wear them and nothing's happened. I hope the rest of the convention goes well for you.

Emily - Glad you liked the oatmeal recipe! WTG on your 8 miler :) Sounds like they're doing some major work on your kitchen. I hope that they finish it quickly. What kind of cupcakes are you making? I think I missed it.

Lynn - How are the cyclocross bikes different from your other bikes? WTG on your 8 miler!

AFM- It was a bit of a crazy weekend trying to squeeze in running and training in between the hot weather. I got to see 'Ted' which was cute in parts. It will definitely give you a good laugh!

My latest blog post is for a broccoli salad. I took a recipe and replaced some of the heavier elements to try and give it a lighter feel.

Hope everyone is having a great day! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - The easiest way to explain cyclocross bikes is that they are built like a hybrid (are made to withstand wet and muddy conditions - different brakes, fatter tires, etc) but configured like a road bike (drop handlebars). We ride the cyclocross bikes when we are planning to ride on dirt roads, or when weather conditions aren’t perfect.

Rick - Glad to hear your wife is doing well and at home! T shirts are just race advertising, so I never feel bad about wearing a T shirt from a race I did not complete.

Emily - Because of cool weather and rain, all the wildfires are getting under control, we have not had to deal with smoke in the air lately. Hope you get your kitchen back together soon!

AFM - I took yesterday off because my knee was bothering me more than usual, and it was raining and cloudy most of the day. Today we are headed out after breakfast for about 20 miles.

Have a great day team!

Hey all! Remember me? the one who hasn't posted in several weeks bc work has driven her crazy? I'm so sorry to have not been so much of a team player this past month, but, like LB, someone has left work; and instead of hiring someone else, they just dumped all her work on top of my own on me and I had two HUGE projects due last week that literally kept me doing overnights like I was in college again. Hopefully things won't be too bad. and on top of it, I ran not one but two race these past seven days and was happy with them both - the boilermaker you guys knew about (and I'll TR it in a moment), but at the last minute, literally overnight, I decided to run one on the fourth of july bc my neighbor, who was going to, decided not to the night before bc she hadn't trained for it so she gave me her bib. Looking back, although I got a PR for the four mile race (Saratoga Firecracker Four) by about two minutes, it prob was a mistake to run it bc it was WAY too hot (the race didnt' start until 9 and was in the high 80's) and people were dropping like flies and it really got my spirit down bc I felt so miserable the entire race from the heat. People were dropping like flies and thankfully they were prepared with a lot of ambulances. I do have to say though, they had a ton of water stops and misters and even had either a band, bagpiper or singer with a microphone every 1/8 mile so the entertainment and spectators were great.

So then the next four days I was petrified about my planned Boilermaker race bc I kept thinking, if I felt that bad for four miles, how am I going to make it 9.3 miles? TG I got a PR though bc I think if I hadn't, I may have skipped out on the Boilermaker - and TG I didn't bc it was the MOST fun race and post-race party I have EVER been too and sorry folks, but it even beat disney!

The race started for me yesterday at 3:45 am when I got up to get ready. My local running group rented two buses to take us to Utica (hour and a half away) for the race. We got our goody bags which included really nice beer steins which they give instead of shirts - nice bc how many shirts do I really need? Okay, a lot! anyway, It was nice not to have to worry about driving and my longtime friend came with me.

Bus left the parking lot at 5 am and we were off - everyone was in good spirits but I admit I was still worried bc of the race a few days earlier and so was my friend who ran it with me. We got there about 6:45 am and the race didn't start until 8 - we used the portapotties which weren't dirty yet, talked to many of the other 13,998 people who were running and met up with another friend of mine -the one who got me running in the first place for disney - who also "borrowed" the bib of a friend who decided literally the night before not to run. now, my friend was lucky bc this race opened up in january and literally filled up with 14,000 people in only six weeks -it was a record for it!

anyway, one surprising thing (and surprising even to my friend's husband who is a meteorologist!) was that it was cloudy - totally unexpected but VERY nice. so I was feeling less worried bc knew the sun was not going to be beating down on me for awhile at least. and the gun sounds - POW! and I'm still standing, and standing, and standnig and hearing the announcer say 1 minute, 38 seconds, 2 minutes 17 seconds and still not moving - finally started moving about 3:38 seconds but didn't even cross the start line until four minutes after the race started - don't worry, chip time.

said goodbye and good travels to my friends (as we all run different paces) and would meet them at the end and started to enjoy the run. I had my music but didn't even need it, as I'm not kidding you, there was not a single space with a lack of spectators the entire 9.3 miles. I've never seen anything like it. and not only spectators, but spectators who were involved with either words of encouragement, signs, hoses, misters, passing out ice, water and even passing out popsicles and full bottles of gatorade! and the official water stops you ask? there were 21 water stops for this 9.3 miles race - that's more than disney has for teh 1/2! I never felt dehydrated bc of all of them. and every 1/4 mile had some sort of entertainment, band, :rockband:dancers:cool1:, singers :mic:(even nikki third place finisher first season of AI!), etc. and I saw a young boy in full batman regalia giving high fives - I gave one to him in honor of my four year old isaac who wore his batman costume 68 days in a row last year - my friend even asked me if I saw this batman boy bc it made her think of isaac!

at mile 4 was THE HILL - the one I had been hearing about - the golf course hill that EVERYONE talked about how bad it was. and although the elevation was high, I was shocked how NOT bad it was. I had worse hills in my 1/2 in april which I didn't know about -this one I was expecting to be bad, but it wasn't - yes, it was high, but the elevation was so long and so slight (to me anyway) that it wasn't bad to feel. and for me, the hater of hills to say, is something. and the interesting thing about this hill was it was curved. so before I got to the hill, I could see the ton of people ahead of me up really high from me running in the opposite direction, and all I could think was OMG, how did they get up there? what the heck is this hill going to be like? but then to see it and to see the curve so large that it was prob a 30 degree angle intead of of the 45 I was expecting, shew a relief. and then being on top of the hill and seeing the THOUSANDS still running behind me, I must admit gave me a nice boost.

then the popsicle, yum the popsicle - the world's BEST way to run and keep hydrated - there is a woman who for years has been "kelly's popsicle stand" with signs and all - who was passing out popsicle, after popsicle after popsicle - can't imaging whant this must cost her as she just does it herself. boy did that orange taste good -I used another word on FB but it is not DIS approved!

the sun came out in full force at mile 6. Then at mile seven a guy on his own was passing out full cold bottles of gatorade - I told him I loved him when he gave me one and he told me he loved me back!:lovestruc

then it was all downhill from there - in a great way, not bad! everyone was so nice and happy the whole race. and the last 1/2 mile was literally downhill to the finish line at the brewery! I saw that I was probably going to beat my previous time of my Cohoes 15k in may, but it's hard to figure it out when you also know you were behind by about 4 minutes. When I crossed, it was just about 1:44 and seconds but I hoped it meant I PR's (and when I looked this morning, I did! - by 4 minutes, 12 seconds - I got 1:39:41:cool1:) anyway, as I crossed the finish line, got to high five our US Senator Chuck Schumer; got my finisher's pin and then waited for my friend.

Once she was done not too shortly after me, we went to find beer? no Popsicles - OMG love them! and hadn't had one in more than ten years, I don't think! Enjoyed blue this time and then went to look for my marathoner friend and her family. We found them very smartly in the shade right next to the Saranac Blueberry summer ale truck and went to get our beer! I am so impressed the kept the beer flowing for over three hours with 19,000 runners and friends bw the 5k and 15k and we never waited in line long for our beer - five minutes tops. There was a great band playing - food I think (didn't really get to that) and went from saying before race that I would NEVER be able to drink beer after running :crazy2:to drinking four ice cold drafts! :drinking1:drinking1:drinking1:drinking1 and honestly, the only reason I stopped was bc I was full. The community atmosphere was really spectacular - everyone happy and talking and dancing, etc.

The party ended around 12:30 pm and then we went to our bus to take us home - yes, I napped most of the way!

So yes, I would recommend this race to ANYONE and if you are anywhere near here, I would sign up! now the thing about this race is that signup is in january and this year, it closed at the end of february - a new record - you wouldn't think 14,000 people would close up so fast - but it did! so come to utica and race and drink beer!

sorry that was so long, I just can't say enough good things about it. and now to comments to others.

Rick - sorry your wife was in the hospital and you missed the race - but most importantly she is doing better - she is in my thoughts.

Kipp and Rick - what did you think of the movie? dh and I thought it was better than all the other spiderman movies

LB - I hope work eases up for you soon!

LynnG hope your knee feels better soon and enjoy your ride!

Vicky - the brocolli salad looks yummy - need to try it!

Emily - thanks for the kind words and sorry the gc's seem to be doing a lousy job on your kitchen - make sure they fix that crack!

es45 - hope the kids are feeling better and I agree - I'm hoping to be able to still move after the marathon as well - maybe we can lean on each other!

and to all - pixie dust all around and I will be more of a presence here!

Well, add me to the list of those who have been MIA! I don't have any good reasons, except that I just don't seem to sit down at the computer as much anymore!

However, that doesn't mean I've hung up my running shoes. I'm currently training for the ToT race and the next weekend plan to run in the Evansville IN half marathon (Half as far; twice as good is their slogan). Also, my home town is hosting a 2 and 4 mile race to benefit the high school athletic program. That race will take place on July 21.

Glad to see that everyone seems to have weathered the heat so far. Ken and I got up at 4:30 Saturday morning so that we could get our long run in before the heat arrived. Even so, it was all ready 78 degrees! Today, when I went out for a short 40 minutes, it was cooler (74) but more humid because we FINALLY got rain last night! :yay:

Rick...glad to see that your wife is doing okay. That must have been a scary time for you.

Vicky...the Ohana bread looks yummy! I made your pineapple banana bread a while back and it was delicious! Kept thinking about you while I was running on Saturday and saying to myself, "Keep hydrated! Keep hydrated!"

Glad to be back. Hope to post more often now that the training is ramping up. Going to visit my granddaughters on Friday so I'm taking the weekend off!

Good Morning Team!

Kimberly - Great race report! It sounds like a fun race.

Mary - Glad to see you posting again.

AFM - We ended up riding 24 miles yesterday, then got the lawn mowed - it really needed it, as the rain had really encouraged it to grow. Today will be a long ride into town, then lunch for a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse before heading home. It is warming up again.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!
