Hakuna Matata Pass the BodyGlide Before My Thighs Catch on Fire July

Hi, everyone,

Mary: Congrats on finishing the race with the injured toe! How was the party?

Rick: Whoohoo! I know you really needed a weekend of recovery after all the walking at the convention so I hope you are able to do that now. How's the knee today? Remind me, was this your first RnR?

Dave: Glad that you are improving!

Lynn: I'm glad that you got a rest day.

I'm back from the beach. I couldn't do much running as my girls were always up and eager to join me so I did sprints and then walked the rest with them collecting shells. This morning I had a short run before work and I hope to swim a bit this evening.

Rick...I sooo understand what you mean about the heat! Even after the 4 mile race on Saturday, I developed a headache that afternoon. I'm sure dehydration had something to do with it. (Yes, Vicky. I did remember to hydrate, but it just wasn't enough!)

The birthday party was great! She is becoming such a little lady! Her favorite gift was an Ariel doll that "really swims." It was a gift from her parents. As I type this, I am icing my calf. It seems that while I was able to make it through the race on Saturday, I was running more on the outside of my foot than I thought, therefore using calf muscles that I wouldn't ordinarily use. Went to the chiro today and he said it should be better in 2-3 days.

Good Morning Team!

Elizabeth - Glad you had a good time at the beach! I am not sure rest days are good, I usually do worse after one, I would do better with a “light day” instead of a rest day.

Mary - hope the calf feels better soon!

AFM - Out for 16.5 miles today on the bikes, dogs, of course, got their early morning walk. Tomorrow will be “pancake breakfast” morning as part of “Frontier Days” here in Cheyenne. Scott may have mentioned on FB, they feed 8,000 to 10,000 folks with the pancake breakfast, the pancake mix is mixed in a cement mixer! The Rotary Club and the Boy Scouts put it on, and it is also used as disaster training - providing a meal to a very large group of people in a short period of time. The breakfast is free - from 7am to 9am - the line is often nearly a mile long, but the wait time is usually less than 20 min! Then we will come home, get the bikes and ride to a good spot to watch the “Thunderbirds” show.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

The knee is feeling pretty good actually. I am pleasantly surprised that I did not have any serious knee issues during the race, and after icing it down when I got home, I have not had any significant pain so far. My calf muscles are definitely tight this week so the foam roller is my friend! :) I posted my race report on my blog this afternoon.

This was my second RnR race. The first was actually a "5K Tune Up" race they held in Chicago last summer. So this was my first Half with RnR. I really enjoyed it so I might run it again next year.

I would like to do more out-of-state races but finances make that difficult. I am hoping to save up for 2013 because I have this 'master plan' to run races in six states next year -- Florida, Arkansas, Michigan, California, Washington, and Washington DC -- all but one of which will be to run a Full Marathon.

I was able to race walk for 45 min at about a 12:00 per mile pace after a good warm up and I did it Pain Free!! Looking at racing again on Aug 11th.

Hi everyone!

:bday: Happy belated birthday to Regina and Kyle! :bday:

And congrats to Rick and Mary on their races! :cheer2:

Rick - Racing in the heat and humidity is a tough one for sure! Sounds like you had a lot of fun though :) Take care of your knee!

Mary - Ouch on your knee! I can totally related because I'm always bumping into things and tripping over cracks in the sidewalk. Hope you're feeling better :goodvibes Way to tough out the race!

Lynn - I remembered you posted about the cement truck pancake mixer last year! Hope the breakfast is a lot of fun! Glad to hear the line moves quickly! Take lots of pictures!

Elizabeth - Sorry to hear you didn't get any running in. But it sounds like the beach was fun and relaxing otherwise :) Did you find any interesting shells? The hat was a light blue - I like it because I don't have any blue hats! They had lots of treats after the run!

Dave - WTG on the pain free walk! What kind of exercises did you do to strengthen your PF?

Regina - Happy happy birthday! I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to post yesterday. Hope you and Kyle had an awesome day! What did you guys do to celebrate? Do you get two birthday cakes or just one :)

AFM - I went for a short run yesterday and the weather has finally cooled down somewhat so it was quite nice out. Not sure if I'll be completely ready for the 30K next month but we'll see how it goes.

I'm hoping to see The Dark Knight after work. Everyone wants to go to an IMAX theatre. I hope it's good :)

It's a friend's birthday on the weekend so I got roped into making a cake. I'm not good at making cakes so we'll see how it goes LOL

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Sorry, no pictures of the pancake breakfast - but it was fun, we ran into friends and had a good visit. I am sure you cake will turn out great!

Dave - Good job with your pain free workout!

Rick - Glad the knee is doing well! You are very ambitious for next year!

Regina - Happy Belated Birthday!

AFM - We started the morning with the pancake breakfast, then came back home, picked up the bikes, and rode to a spot along our bike path to watch the Thunderbirds, it was a pretty good place to watch from. We then completed the loop on the bike path for 28 miles - strong wind - 15 - 25 mph, so half the ride was into the wind, luckily the way home had wind to our backs for most of the way!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team!

Elizabeth - Yes, I do all of my training outside. I do have gym membership so I could use a TM, but I don't really like running on them. On the weekends, I try to get out early to beat the heat. Glad you had a good time at the beach!

Vicky - I made the cupcakes for fun, I was holding a meeting so sometimes I'll bring in treats for them. Good luck making the cake, I'm sure it will turn out well.

Lynn - I'll PM you the recipes I used. I found them on a couple different websites. Sounds like you had a fun day. (ETA - I just PM'ed the recipe to you)

Mary - Glad you had a good race.

Rick - Congrats on your race!

Regina - Happy Birthday! I hope you had a great day.

AFM - Today's a rest day. I'm watching the US women's soccer team first Olympic match. I spent all day trying to avoid finding out who won the game :)

Have a good night!
Emily

Regina: Happy belated birthday!

Vicky: One shell of note: Rachel found a dead crab that she decided we should bring back to dissect. Guess who ended up doing the most of the dissecting? And to think I'm allergic to shellfish. She now has a very cool crab shell for her collection.

Dave: So happy to read that you are walking pain free!

Rick: I read your blog and I agree: no distance races, May-September.

Hello to everyone else!

AFM: Good long run yesterday. I'm not experiencing any back pain so my core strengthening must be working. Plus, I've lost 10 pounds. :cool1: I'm skipping my 5k on Saturday because the temp is scheduled to be 80F by race start and 100F later in the day.

Good Evening Team!

Elizabeth - Congrats on the weight loss!!!!

Emily - Thanks for the recipe, it does look good, I have printed it out, and will have to try them someday!

AFM - We got out for a 16 mile ride today, then mowed the lawn, then cleaned house! Tomorrow we are planning a 50 mile ride, will see how long it really is.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team! Happy Friday! Does anyone have plans for the weekend? I've got a 13 miler planned for Sunday and I'm going for a long overdue haircut on Saturday. I'm also looking forward to watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics tonight!

Lynn - Wow! You and Scott are racking up the miles! Good luck on the 50 miler today! Hope the weather cooperates for you.

Elizabeth - Yikes on the shellfish allergy! Do you carry an epipen or a bottle of Benadryl? Sorry to hear that you have to cancel your race :( It definitely does sound like it's too warm for running. Congrats on your weight loss! That's fantastic :)

Emily - If you make treats like cupcakes for office meetings, you must be very popular! It sure beats the donuts that we get in our office. I didn't know the soccer events were already broadcast. I'm looking forward to watching the opening ceremonies tonight! And the triathlon eventually... :)

AFM - I'm doing a bit of fundraising for the 30K race I'm running in August. The charity is the Hospital for Sick Children and if anyone can help out with a donation, I would appreciate it. No pressure though! The link is below:

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

I've been absent for a bit since I really had nothing to share, but I'm very much on the mend now so I will be resuming regular training again. Since the PT took me off the one foot exercises I've been improving quickly.

Tomorrow is interval day and I hope to finally be able to get some good accelerations again. We are shooting for 6X600m repeats at an average of 4 min per 600m.

Wednesday I'll be doing a good 4 miler and then Saturday a strong 5 miler. Everyday will be a long stretching and cals routine.

Good luck with the long run this weekend Vicky. Was this the training run you ended up doing on the treadmill?

Lynn I bet you guys are watching the cycling in the Olympics.

Everyone have a super evening.

Davepirate:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Never did get to the 50 miler, spent the weekend volunteering - see below.

Dave - We have been taping the Olympics, we watched the mens bike race when we got home yesterday, and the womens bike race today when we got home. Now we have the “Prime Time” coverage on.

AFM - Weather did not cooperate for 50 miler, we went up the road and Scott did sprints and I just rode normal distance - 16 miles. Saturday we volunteered for an “aid station” (would be called water station in foot race) for a mountain bike race. It was way out in the forest service, we spent the day there, it was fun, as we were the last aid station, the mountain bikers who came in were really beat! We gave them watermelon, bananas, bagels, cookies, M&M’s, energy bars, electrolytes, and anything else we had to get them back on the trail. Today, our MS Team volunteered to clean up at Cheyenne Frontier Days (think State Fair) Grounds, the pay we would have gotten going to the team coffers. We spent 4 hours hauling trash cans from the grounds to the garbage truck and taking empty ones back to the grounds. We should have taken our Garmins to see how far we really walked, seemed like at least 5 miles, and some of those trash cans were really heavy! We only worked half a day, but it seemed like more!

Have a great day team!

Hi all!!

Been MIA on the boards lately. I thought that after I installed the app on my porable devices, I'd get on here more. :confused3 It didn't work out that way. I think I just prefer typing on the laptop or desktop better than banging out a long message on the virtual keyboards.

My opinion on rooms at Pop are that you request a top floor room. In my experience, those have been the quieter rooms. Three trips I have been in the 50's building behind the Jukebox, usually within 10 or so rooms away from the elevator.

It's more of a hike to the main hall & dining, but I've never had a bad experience there.

My weight loss is going sllllloooowly. Dad and I both gained this past week, so I'm looking forward to this week's weigh in. I've almost gotten back down to my lowest weight from last year (243#).

My running has been sporadic lately. The heat has been playing havoc with my allergies. Apparently the weeds that DO grow in this drought we're having, all are ones that produce nasty allergens. I've been having some pretty severe headaches, but I think I've finally found a combination of meds that have gotten this under control.

Yesterday morning I got a long walk/run in and I wound up going much further than I had originally intended (almost 6.75 miles). I had plotted a course that would take me over 4 overpasses. I've been regularly going over the first two and decided that I'd go ahead and make the complete circuit. I started to get closer to Overpass #3, only to find that it's not an overpass that is going to be safe to run over. It's VERY narrow and only has water runoff gutters on the sides of the road. :( So I ended up just reversing course.

I'm a little bit sore today.

Hey all! anyone else feel like they are barely hanging on by their fingertips? work has been insane so I've been off the grid AGAIN. I'm getting frustrated by it to be honest. Trying to work FT, be a mom to a four year old and getting training in while not compromising time with four year old has been tough. so time on here has definitely taken a beating! I did increase my miles to 15 miles on saturday in accordance with my marathon plan. Got up at 4:50 am to do it. Although I did it and was happy with my results, I must admit I'm really scared about making it up to 26.2 miles. 15 is the most I've ever run and although i didn't collapse at the end, I was really exhausted the rest of the day and had a headache later even though I hydrated quite a bit. thankfully at least my legs, esp my calves, only hurt for about an hour after the run and have been fine ever since. I even felt like I could run today but didn't since they say not to run for a couple of days after a long run. so I'll run 5 miles t, w, th and then try for 17 this saturday. pixie dust please!

Kipp - just keep trying your best and that's all that matters. you can do it!

regina - a much much belated Bhappy birthday - hope it was great!

Lynn - that was really nice all the volunteering you did - I bet the bike riders were really appreciative!

bunnyfoo - how did the 13 miles go?

Windwalker - been sending pixie dust your way that your training gets up to where you want it!

es - congrats on the weight loss! I'm jealous!

mary j - glad the birthday party was a success

Rick - do you have a time limit on your marathon in october? I'm getting nervous about mine bc they want everyone done in 5.5 hours. I know I can finish before disney's time limit, but am right about at that now in my training. I know I'm about 1.5-2 minutes faster per mile in my races lately than my training, but I also know they are a lot shorter than the marathon. I'm not worried I won't finish - I know I will even if it takes awhile, I'm really nervous about not getting my medal.

Happy Monday everyone!

Kimberly - I think it's just your body's way of getting use to running a longer distance. I find it happens to me every year ... every year I'm able to go a bit farther and not feel as tired for long runs. Last year, I felt good up until about 17 miles. The long runs after that were tough but I remember when 6 miles was tough LOL Good luck on your 17 miler this weekend! Remember to throw in a cutback week every so often :)

Kipp - I've had that problem with weight myself. Do you keep a food journal? I find I'm more accountable when I do. I write down everything I eat and usually skip snacks because I don't want to add them into my journal. Sometimes switching up your workout routine helps too! Keep up with the workouts and clean eating! I know how tough it can be.

Lynn - Sorry to hear you didn't get to do the 50 miler. The volunteering at the aid station sounds fun and if cyclists get that kind of grub at the aid station, maybe I should switch to running! I watched the men's and women's road races on the weekend and really want a bike now LOL I've never watched a cycling event before so it was interesting seeing how the cyclists have to work together but still do their own race. The trash can move sounds like a big workout!

Dave - The 13 miler was part of training for my 30K in August. I'm a bit undertrained for that one. I would have felt more confident if I had done at least one or two more 13 milers but it's just the way things have worked out with my schedule, the weather and life in general :) How's your foot doing? Are you looking forward to watching the Olympic race walking events?

AFM - I had a rather busy weekend! I made a cake for a friend's birthday. It was a b&w chocolate mousse cake and I had never attempted one before. It turned out pretty good for a first attempt. If I ever make it again, I'll spend some extra time making chocolate curl decorations. My kitchen ended up being really hot that it was difficult to work with chocolate so I had to skip it. I'll post about that later this week. In the meantime, I have a recipe for homemade butter. If you ever have left over heavy cream from another recipe and don't know what to do with it before it goes bad, try making your own butter :) I used rosemary, cayenne pepper and garlic powder to create a spicy rosemary garlic butter but you can do whatever flavors you want!

I also ran a 13.1 miler on the TM yesterday. Not so much by choice as it was a result of me sleeping in. Oh well, that's my punishment I suppose. It went pretty well and I was able to run at a few seconds above race pace. I made it through without any ankle or knee pain either so that was good. I do have a sore back this morning but I think that should go away by tomorrow. I think the sore back was probably the result of sitting around for an hour or two after my run watching the Olympics on TV. Nothing's tougher than being an armchair athlete right? ;)

This week, I'm hoping to get in two short runs of 3.5-4 miles and then I'll do a 15 miler on the weekend. Luckily, this weekend is a long weekend for us so I have a few days to attempt the 15 miler. And then hopefully that will be enough for the 30K coming up in 3 weeks. Fingers crossed.

Hope everyone's having a great day! :wave2:

Kimberley: Good job with the long runs. I am in the same boat, longest run ever yesterday and feel like going back today…but I will defer to experts as well and maybe run again Tuesday.

Kipp: Congrats on the weight loss. Don’t be discouraged it is going slowly, it mean more at a change of it staying off!

Lynn: Great job with the biking. I gotta ask, you refer to your biking all the time, do you run much/any? Do you participate Disney Races? Or just come down for the event?

Dave: Hope your intervals went well

Vicky: Great charity to support. I was just reading in my local paper about a 10 month old from PEI who got a liver transplant at Sick Children in TO. Sounds like the most complex from the whole country go there.

Elizabeth: Congrats on the weight loss. Good call on skipping the race.

Rick: Hope you are back on track with the marathon training after the RnR

AFM: I did my first ever 20 miler yesterday. Felt pretty sore for the few hours afterwards, but feel great today. I am hoping this is a good sign for being Goofy ready. Next weekend, up to 21!

Other than training, I think I am all set for Marathon weekend as I just booked my flight. Arrive Wednesday around noon, leave Tuesday around noon. Can hardly wait! Other than that, I made the one ADR I “had” to have – ohana, but cannot see it on the reservation system. The website says they are cannot display ADRs…anyone else have ADRs and seeing the same thing?

Have a good week all

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I find watching bike races really interesting. Looking forward to the cake recipe! God job with the TM run.

Kimberly - Good luck with the training! Yes, the riders seems especially appreciative of our stop, we heard later that ours was the favorite.

Robbie - Scott and I both had to give up running/walking distances because of the arthritis in our knees, so we took up biking. As we had been very active in the Disney races, we still enjoy going and seeing our friends. We still do the Disneyland 5K, and we occasionally get to DW during marathon weekend to cheer on folks and visit. (Scott was a runner and I was a walker).

Kipp - I agree with you about keyboards! Good job on the weight loss!

AFM - We got in 16 miles today, did not want to push it after 2 days of being on our feet all day.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

My training partner couldn't make it for the interval session so I went to the health club and did a 5 miler from there. It was a good effort in the heat and hilly course, 1 hour 49 sec. I'm good with that for right now, I will be walking faster again soon. Today was a very comfortable walk without pain. I did a good stretching and exercise routine after. Then in the afternoon I did 30 min of walk sprints in the 5 foot deep end of the pool.

Tomorrow will just be stretching and then Wednesday I'll do another training walk. I'm adding a little bit of intensity and mileage each week.

Hope everyone is doing good and Miss all of you.

Davepirate:

God Morning Team!

Plans for the day are for a 30+ miler - I have a dentist appointment on the other side of town, so we will ride there and back. We have been busy with yard work, having an MS Bike Ride Team party this weekend, madly trying to get the weeds under control.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!
