Happy Monday everyone!
Kimberly - I think it's just your body's way of getting use to running a longer distance. I find it happens to me every year ... every year I'm able to go a bit farther and not feel as tired for long runs. Last year, I felt good up until about 17 miles. The long runs after that were tough but I remember when 6 miles was tough LOL Good luck on your 17 miler this weekend! Remember to throw in a cutback week every so often
Kipp - I've had that problem with weight myself. Do you keep a food journal? I find I'm more accountable when I do. I write down everything I eat and usually skip snacks because I don't want to add them into my journal. Sometimes switching up your workout routine helps too! Keep up with the workouts and clean eating! I know how tough it can be.
Lynn - Sorry to hear you didn't get to do the 50 miler. The volunteering at the aid station sounds fun and if cyclists get that kind of grub at the aid station, maybe I should switch to running! I watched the men's and women's road races on the weekend and really want a bike now LOL I've never watched a cycling event before so it was interesting seeing how the cyclists have to work together but still do their own race. The trash can move sounds like a big workout!
Dave - The 13 miler was part of training for my 30K in August. I'm a bit undertrained for that one. I would have felt more confident if I had done at least one or two more 13 milers but it's just the way things have worked out with my schedule, the weather and life in general

How's your foot doing? Are you looking forward to watching the Olympic race walking events?
AFM - I had a rather busy weekend! I made a cake for a friend's birthday. It was a b&w chocolate mousse cake and I had never attempted one before. It turned out pretty good for a first attempt. If I ever make it again, I'll spend some extra time making chocolate curl decorations. My kitchen ended up being really hot that it was difficult to work with chocolate so I had to skip it. I'll post about that later this week. In the meantime, I have a recipe for
homemade butter. If you ever have left over heavy cream from another recipe and don't know what to do with it before it goes bad, try making your own butter

I used rosemary, cayenne pepper and garlic powder to create a spicy rosemary garlic butter but you can do whatever flavors you want!
I also ran a 13.1 miler on the TM yesterday. Not so much by choice as it was a result of me sleeping in. Oh well, that's my punishment I suppose. It went pretty well and I was able to run at a few seconds above race pace. I made it through without any ankle or knee pain either so that was good. I do have a sore back this morning but I think that should go away by tomorrow. I think the sore back was probably the result of sitting around for an hour or two after my run watching the Olympics on TV. Nothing's tougher than being an armchair athlete right?
This week, I'm hoping to get in two short runs of 3.5-4 miles and then I'll do a 15 miler on the weekend. Luckily, this weekend is a long weekend for us so I have a few days to attempt the 15 miler. And then hopefully that will be enough for the 30K coming up in 3 weeks. Fingers crossed.
Hope everyone's having a great day!
