Hakuna Matata, NO Fooling it's April!!

Just stopping in quickly, but decided to post, too

Mary, I'm with you. (I finished WDW 1/2 at 3:19 so must have been just ahead of you! ) I can jog a little here and there, but just can't keep doing it at a regular pace. On shorter races when I sometimes try to jog longer, I feel like I'm killing myself.

After I returned home and was at the local BPOE with DH, we were talking to a runner about my time. He relayed a story of a Boston Marathon years ago where someone who had finished it in 5 or 6 hours had gone to the winner to congratulate him. When the winner asked the person what their time was, they tried to not answer, but finally the winner got it out of them and they meekly said (whatever it was) Then the winner said - Don't be ashamed of that I could never run for that long! - and something along the lines of I may be faster, but that fact that you're out there for all those hours is nothing to be disappointed in. There's lots of people who may be faster but don't have the stamina to go for the long period of time. - It's one my favorite marathon stories. And as someone who, it seems no matter how much I train, may be relegated to a 14 - 15 minute pace, seems to fit me perfectly.

But, here I am, have taken two days in a row off AGAIN. OH well, I'll try to do an hour or more on the TM as I watch Idol tonight.

Anne
Anne,
This is pretty much exactly what my doctor said to me today as he massage my aching leg muscles. I'm doing something that a lot of people my age would never even dream of doing. It was nice to hear it from one of my own team here. Thanks!:thumbsup2

Good Morning Team!

MaryJ - I agree with the above! It is quite an accomplishment just to finish a half marathon! I am another who will always be in the 14 - 15 m/m range, at least that is my goal!

Another nice day here, plan to get dogs out for another walk before the rain starts again. Yesterday I did get in almost 5 miles, knee was better - not great but better. My average pace increased from 20+m/m to 18+m/m. Not the 15:30 to 16 that I am used to training at - but a definate improvement! And I was not in agony the whole time I was walking!

Have a great day everyone!

Wow...you guys have been a busy bunch!

I had a nice 3 mile run WITH the hubby this morning. It's so nice to have him out there with me. We got the miles in in about 34 minutes. Not bad considering he had to take a strech break and a couple of walk breaks. Me goal for us is to try to be able to run the whole thing next month. I had been looking at two 5Ks in the first week in May and a half marathon in the end of May. I have been taking my speed easy since we are trying for a baby. I only have 2 weeks of hard running and then during the "2 week wait" I take it easy. So 2 steps forward...two steps back. I'd rather be safe than sorry though. :thumbsup2

Dave - When are you guys going WDW in May?

Vicky - I love unsweetened tea too! Regular black tea or green. We can get unsweetened tea almost anywhere here though...although I have been getting water with lemon when we dine out lately.

Lynn- Glad to hear your knee is better. You'll get back to training pace in no time!!

Ooops...out of time....start work at 10:30...

BTW Savannah is fine. She and Chop both got some meds. It seems that he had an ear infection that we didn't know about. Usually if he get infected he digs at his ears, but this time no signs. He's on drops and antibiotics...he has not been nearly as grumpy, but we are still looking at trainers for him.

Good Morning Team!!

My training partner is Margie. Darn it all, we live a long way apart for that, though; 17 hours, 16 minutes to be exact!

I have a different perspective of races than many, maybe even most, people. I think of a race as the celebration event for all the training I did! :rotfl: The only thing I have to beat is the distance. :cool1: Think about it though, a race is the ONLY way I can think of where you work out and exercise and then on one amazing day, there's miles and miles of signs, bands, DJ's, on lookers, and volunteers who help you celebrate your hours and hours of loney road miles! I AM the WINNER!!!

We have had lovely weather. Sure hope it holds for the weekend. My relay team seems much more confidant in their abilities to accomplish their legs of the race than I feel! I sure hope they can hold up their end of things!

Well, off to make spring in my house. I change out the bedroom for spring. I take down the gold and red royal linens and curtains, in favor of the turquoise and white. beach style!

See ya! Connie

Hi Team! A bit of a hectic morning and in the midst of all the craziness and running around, I accidentally left my engagement ring in the washroom. :headache:You know how they always say not to take your ring off when you're washing your hands... apparently I was too smart for that little bit of advice.  I was lucky though - the person who found it left a note. The embarassing thing was I haven't been wearing my ring lately (mostly because it is a little loose and I didn't want it to get snagged on my gloves) so I didn't even notice it was gone until the mid morning  Geez!! So that was my embarassing moment of the day...  I'm headed downstairs to buy a gift card to say thank-
you.

Connie - I've never done a relay race before but I'm wondering if this would be a good way to get some of my non-running friends into the sport.

Eva - I've been doing the water thing lately too. But more so because I'm trying to save a little bit of money  I'm glad to hear you've got Jordan out running with you. DF and I were registered for a 10K this Sunday but I had to move him into the 5K because he hasn't done enough training.

Lynn - Glad to hear your knee is feeling better! That's impressive that you went out for the 5 miles anyway.

Anyway, that's all for now! Hope everyone is having a great day!

Vicky...so glad that there are honest people in this world! Something like this just recently happened to my PT. Her aunt was having a yard sale, so she took some things over to put in the sale, including several purses. A couple of days later, a man showed up at the aunt's house with a ring that he had found in a purse that he had purchased for his wife. My PT said the ring had been missing for five years! It had been a graduation gift from another one of her relatives and she thought it was gone forever!

Connie, I love the way you think of races!

As for me, 45 minute tempo run, which was steadier than I'd like. 12 minutes at an 8:05 then 23 minutes at a 7:35 then 10 minutes at an 8 even. About 6 miles in distance. I would have liked to see that middle section under 7:30. It was perfect running weather and I got back right before the rain hit.

Oh and I heard through the grapevine that the track coach was disappointed to find out I was a senior when my friend told him what I was running without formal training.

Best,
Jennifer

Eva, good going you guys on getting out there and Glad the pups are doing good/better.

Vicky, glad you found the ring,

Work has been nutz

My trial that was scheduled for this weeks was postponed, my FBI agent was going to cover a presentation for me on 4/21 and My tech/IT guy was going to do the afternoon session. FBI guy gets jammed on case work so with the trial canceled I say I’ll cover the morning presentation. KEWL tech/IT guy all set to cover the afternoon session. Plan to leave office 0600. Monday 6:40 call from tech/IT guy, his mother suddenly passed away. 4 Hour block of instruction top fill, in the office at 7:00 PM crank out a course of instruction get home 12:30, try to cal mind, 2 hours sleep at tops. Up and at it Tues Morn, dive 170 miles one way (FBI guy drove, thank goodness and he was a great help) present morning and afternoon home last night 8:00. I was a tired puppy. Such is my crazy life, it is days like that where the fitness people say you can always find time to work out…….. Right, here are my shoes walk in them a while…

SOrry for teh rant, anyway, I am proposing that the weekend be changed to Wed Thurs and the weather gets cruddy every weekend and the week days are nice. I did go home at lunch and getb the Motor Bike, and rode back intowork and to do soem work errands.

Actually got home today at 5:00 wonder what is wrong or what crazyness I will have to deal with later.

Hi all,

Did 4 miles this morning. A little slow for me 32 minutes (I've been running this same route in about 30), but I think it's from the decongestant I took last night.

I'm planning on going to Zumba and Pilates with my friends tonight, so I'll check back in later.

Best,
Jennifer

Another nice day here, enjoying before the rain/snow weekend arrives.

I even have windows open here in my office.

Hi team! I did my 4 miles after work - the hard part about running through my neighbourhood in the evening is that everyone is cooking dinner. My run started out kind kind of crummy, I had a cramp on the outside of my feet. So I figured, I'd just enjoy being outside and not worry about the pace or time. Turns out my pace wasn't too shabby in the end - 10:35 m/m.

Scott - Sounds like we have opposite weather patterns. It's cool here during the weekdays but warm on the weekend. Sorry to hear about all the craziness at work.

Mary - I told the woman who returned my ring the same thing. That's a great story about your PT's ring :)

That's all for me! Have a great night everyone!

Good Morning Team! It's Friday!!!!!

We are expecting nice weather on Sat. Yeah! I'll be up & out early. Then enjoying coffee & tea on the deck. First of the season.

Scott, Your work schedule sounds crazy! Hope you can enjoy the weekend despite the weather forecast.

Vicky, Glad to hear your ring was safe.

Connie, This is your race weekend, right? Good luck. Enjoy.

Did 10k last night. Rest today.

Have a great weekend......Sue

Jennifer - Man...I was proud of myself because I ran 4 miles in 39:04 this morning!! You are a speedy one! In my defense though, it was very windy and the last 2 miles are uphill. The first two were into the wind and downhill but I always take the first mile slow to warm up. So I still feel good about my run I guess. ;)

Vicky - Soooo glad for you that you got your ring back. My first marriage came with a big ol diamond and I was always afraid of losing it. I was seriously paranoid about it! Although I love some sparkle now and again, I'm so glad I have a sturdy tungsten carbide band. I ding it on stuff all the time (like the treadmill armrests). It's kinda manly because it's black, but Jordan and I have matching rings and I love it!

Mary - Such a feel good story about the lost ring that was found!!

Scott - Sounds like you need a little RnR!! Jordan took the bike into work today even though we will have scattered thunderstorms. I'm hoping and praying I won't have to go to East Cleveland to pick him up!! :moped:

Connie - Your post made me want to RACE!!! :cool1:

OK...well...work calls...hope you all have a great weekend!!! :grouphug:

Morning Kids, I woke up and it looked overcast so hit the TM, we have the Bolder Boulder in a month so better get going to get ready. Rain is on the charts through Tuesday.

Vicky, you lucky dog with the proper weather.

Yes a vacation would be nice, but come the fall we have them all kinda stacked.

Have the plans for a kinda portable Tiki Bar, for outdoor entertainment, in my mind, so that maybe the indoor project for me this weekend.

Now the sky is clear so might have to get the bike to go to a dopey meeting... today about a new Lab/ HQ / and a new Computer Lab for my Team. Silly thing is all construction for the State has been put on hold due to the economy, so if we aren't building why in the world are we meeting about which way the doors will swing...... I am not a good government employee as I ask WHY???? too often.. maybe that is why I don't get invited to all the meetings LOL

Later Kids have a great one....

Happy Friday everyone! Can't wait to finish work and get outdoors! I've got my 10K race on Sunday morning.

Eva - Man I was feeling good about my 42 minutes and then you have to post your 39 minutes :rotfl: Good for you! Now I have something to work towards. I have to say that I'm a little more comfortable running in the 10-11 m/m range so I think I just have to push myself to get my 4 miles under 40 mins. Did you and Jordan do the 5K race yet?

Scott - For shame! Asking questions in a government job :upsidedow

Sue - I am soooo looking forward to good weather the weekend! I have to get my patio chairs out and clean them up a little.

Connie - Good luck with your race this weekend! Can't wait to hear all about it!

Denise, Margie, Dave, Erica, Mary, Jack and everyone else - :wave2:

Have a fantastic weekend!

Eva, Thanks! And while I like hills (hey I've done a decent amount of my training on parts of the Boston Marathon route), I definitely agree the wind will slow anyone down.

Today's my rest day. I'm going a little stir crazy. The weather is nice, and I think I becoming anxious about the taper. I'll be dropping from a total of about 37 miles this week to 15 or less next week. I know it'll make me race better, but...

Any way I did get in an hour of pilates and an hour of zumba in addition to the 4 miles yesterday.

Best,
Jennifer

Today's my birthday and I got a Nike+ which I'm loving!

Now I know my mileage and my pace rather than guessing with map my run.

Any way 6.5 miles, 48 minutes, average 7:30 pace.

Off for birthday fun!

Jennifer

Happy Birthday, Jennifer!

I hope you have a day of decadence after your most excellent run!

:bday:party::love2:

Hi everyone! Took the day off and went to get my hair cut. Saw lots of people out running. It was a great morning to go since the weather was nice and warm. Stopped off at Whole Foods afterward for a few treats. DF jokes that I'm the only person who goes into an organic supermarket and comes out with junk food. I picked up some yummy cheeses and an olive baguette. And a few cookies

Tomorrow is my 10K... it's raining now so I'm hoping that it will stop by tomorrow morning.

Jennifer - :bday: I always thought you had a GPS watch. I still use MapMyRun but find that it's sometimes off by as much as a 1/2 mile. Anyway, hope you enjoy your day :cutie:

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hi TEAM! :wave2:

You have been busy - I did a quick scan to try to catch up but know I missed a bit!

Huge Thunderstorms today-has some shopping to do, set up little Hagen's outdoor play area between the down pours.

Question: anyone know if it would okay or end up being a mess to put outdoor carpet on the ground over the grass in the play area? :teacher:

:bday: Jennifer!:cake:

Erica-have fun in Nashville! :upsidedow
:hippie: I missed it - What are you doing this weekend? :goodvibes

Connie- Enjoy the relay Race. I am sooooo eager to hear how much fun you had! I agree I think it would be lots of fun to do a Relay Race. Wish I was there! :cheer2::cheer2:

Vicky- What a beautiful surprise to get a lost treasure returned! :cloud9:

Lynn-Glad to hear your knees are a little better pixiedust:
