Hakuna Matata, NO Fooling it's April!!

Jennifer, party::bday:party:, sorry a day belated, but you should celebrate your B-Day for at least a week.... Really I do. BUt I am a really old guy LOL

You will enjoy the Nike + Have ya had a fast mile or 5K yet, you get a ocngrats, KEWL!!!

Vicky, wish we had a Whole Foods close by, but I can totally relate, usually we will get stuff there for a picnic.

Out door carpet over a grass area would be ok I would prep the ground underneath, then I would put down some landscaping cloth, then the carpet on top of that, but if it is temporary like day use, toss it out adn pick it up after use leaving it down will kill your grass underneath.

Got material for teh Tiki Bar yesterday, so a work project is in order....Snow and Ice on the roads.

Have a great one I got a Tiki Bar to Build.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I had a great day! My friends and I went to the ballet and then out to dinner and drinks.

It is hot in the Northeast.

I got out early and tried to beat the heat. 13.5 miles in 1 hr 48 minutes (roughly an 8 minute mile pace). I found out that I've been running about half- 3/4 of a mile more than I thought meaning my pace has been about 15-30 seconds faster than I thought.

Scott , According to my nike + my fastest sustained mile has been 7:07! And I love that Joan Benoit Samuelson congratulated me for hitting a half-marathon! Such a fun little toy.

Off to church now. Be careful in the heat everyone!

Jennifer

I got out for a 5K before teh weather got nasty, Temp 34 and wind at 10 MPH, 10:58 pace. Punder ?????? seems to be stuck and congrats me every run with a compleation of 500K.

It is a fun toy.

Hi Team! :wave2:

No word from Connie yet :upsidedow

Severe Thunderstorms for 2nd day and it looks like they will stick around for tomorrow too! :umbrella:

Scott- Snow & Ice on the roads? Yes, I would just like to leave the outdoor carpet down for the kids to play on-Question: what do you mean prep the ground? Oh, please do not say I need to remove all that sod! I have the large roll of landscaping cloth. Another Question: how is the outdoor carpeting for draining? Thinking by next year the ground will be okay to then put down the rubber chips that I am converting to in my landscaping. Thanks for letting sharing your knowledge! :thanks:

Now I need to research making a balance beam for toddlers. :upsidedow

Later...

Well we just got back from camping with the troop. We camped at the Small Army Camp on the ocean. We "camped" in the barracks and cooked on the grill. One of the parents is a Chef, so he did all the "Grown-up" Cooking. The kids ate steak (what ever happened to beans & wieners) and Chef cook us a beef tenderloin. Nice tablecloth and napkins, candles, and of course with meat you have to have the "Red Grape". This morning I got up before the kids and walked along the shore, the bell buoy was ringing and the smell of the salt air was phenomenal. I was bummed when everyone else started stirring. But the kids had a ball, finding lobster buoys and horseshoe crab shells. One of the new parents remarked that his wife forced him to go and he'll make sure she forces him again when we go there. It was a great week end for the kids and the weather was THE BEST yet~! UG! back to work tomorrow,,,,,,,

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I've been thinking about how to create a hot topic for this week's mixer question. Turns out, the weather cooperated with me. :lmao:

Many areas of the country experienced above average temperatures this weekend, which made many of our weekend distances uncomfortable. (I was thinking especially of how the weather affected the racers at CMM, particularly our very special WISHers). So this week's mixer topic, which starts here on the 'Ohana thread:

What are your training/racing/recovery tips and strategies for hot-weather conditions?

Feel free to tell us how you alter your routines: when you go out, what gear you use or what you wear, how you hydrate and fuel differently, how to recognize danger signs, how you keep cool and/or recover from overheating, and when you decide to shorten/quit/take it inside.

As we all know, going out in the heat can be dangerous, so please help all of us by sharing your knowledge. :thumbsup2

Just wanted to stop in and add that I also did an hour of strength training class tonight. Taper starts tomorrow/tuesday (tomorrow is normally cross-training anyway). Prepare for madness.

Best,
Jennifer

Where is everyone? Hopefully avoiding the heat.

I did an hour of kickboxing as cross training today. I'm getting up early to beat the heat tomorrow.

Best,
Jennifer

I finally caught up - Jennifer, sorry I missed your birthday - Happy Belated Birthday!

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and did well in your races.

The knee is better, still keeps me awake at night, and I am still in alot of pain the first half mile of my walk, but it gets better after that. My walks are still slow, but getting slightly faster.

Have a great evening.

Lynn, Thanks! And glad the knee is doing better!

As for me I did 4.25 miles at 7 am to beat the heat. I did at a comfortable 7:40 pace for a total of 32 minutes.

At least it is supposed to cool down tomorrow.

Best,
Jennifer

Good Morning Team!

Those to the East - be careful of the heat!

Foggy here today, but we are supposed to see the sun, and it should be a bit warmer at 60 degrees, but it is pretty windy! I did get my leg exercises in yesterday, will wait to see weather before I decide how much of a walk to do today!

Have a great day!

Shark%20Helicopter.jpg

Ok, you mean to tell me that the US Goverment does not own PhotoShop?
They could not get some geek to Photoshop Air Force 2 and the Statue of Liberty in the same picture? We can show a shark eating a helicopter.....
They could get a high school senior to do it. Imagine how much just the jet fuel costs for this 'fly-by"?

Good morning Hakuna Matata!!!!

Jack, that's hillarious!

Lynn continued improvement wished for your knees!

We did the race, but we didn't get a time. Not that my team seemed to care at all. I was misdirected and ended up finishing the half marathon instead of moving to the next relay stop. As soon as I realized the mistake that was made, I set out to try and rescue my teammates. I remembered that Jon had his cell phone with him and called him to start on his leg or catch the shuttle. So, he took off on his leg. When he got to my son-in-law, he sent him on his way. We finished the race, we got medals, so all was not lost!

My team, daughter, son-in-law and hubby are already planning on their next races! It was so different from what they were expecting and they had a blast. The race was sold out, there were 19,000 participants. It was excitng.

Well, that's what I have been doing. I am off to do my shopping today. I am planning to get groceries for at least a month. I don't want to be exposed to the Swine Flu any more than absolutely necessary. A toddler died this morning in Texas. No need to take chances when I don't have too.

See ya! Connie

PS Don't forget the end of the month is closing in! Let's get those training numbers in!!! BTW? Where is everyone?????

Did 30 minute upper body workouts at the gym today and Monday. Took a half hour stroll last night with DH but giving my legs a rest in preparation for the mini Marathon on Saturday. Don't feel as prepared for this one but I'm sure I'll be fine.

Hi everyone did a 30 minute tempo run with a total distance right at 4 miles. Top sustained speed was a 6:59 mile (for about a mile), average speed 7:30 mile, low speed was 8:15.

I'm hopefully going to kickboxing tonight. Oh and is it normal to get cramps/feel tight during taper? I feel fine when I run but tight at night or when I've been sitting for a while

Best,
Jennifer

It's mid week! :woohoo:Happy Wednesday Team!

Jen, Happy Belated Birthday! What great times & speed you have. Don't know about cramps & tapering. Only get cramps (sidestitch) when I have eaten or had too much water too close to run time.

Connie, Congrats on your race & to your fellow teammates. How far did you end up running?

Sunny but cool & windy today. Last night's run was very windy. Had to walk for a bit. Just wasn't moving forward.

Make it a good one. I'm cheating & taking the night off......Sue

Hi everyone! So glad it's Wednesday - it's been a busy week here! Crazy weather too! It's hot one day, then cool the next, and it will be warm and rainy in the morning but windy and cold in the afternoon.

I did my 10K on Sunday and managed an overall pace of 9:55 m/m. Met my goal to run at 10:00 m/m even though I did hope to finish in under an hour but I wasn't familiar with the course and there were parts I ended up walking. The rain made the wooden bridges slippery and they're on hills with wooden slats. Not sure how they're going to hold the Toronto Women's Half there in May - the paths are pretty tight and I know that course will double back on itself in several places.

Connie - Congrats on your relay! That sounds like so much fun! I'm always afraid of getting lost on course.

Sue - Enjoy your day off!!

Jack - Too funny!!

Mary - Good luck with your race this weekend! Let us know how it goes :)

Lynn - How's your knee?

Eva - :wave2: How are your pups doing? Were you able to get in contact with a dog behaviour specialist?

Well, that's it for me! Hope everyone is having a great day!

Jack, What That Is Not Real, It Has to be I saw it on the Internet....
