Hakuna Matata, NO Fooling it's April!!

Just off the TM 5 miles 50 min. felt good. Wind had picked up even with the sun and temps a pinch warmer.

Whilst on the TM I Started to watch an old TV series we have on VHS, will dub them to DVD, called The Prisoner. It was a 1967 series, one of these 60’s make ya think kind of shows. I thought I heard a rumor of it being remade.

Lynn went into town to meet with a worker of hers, she will do a walk with the pups later. Earlier I finished the Maintenance on the mowers, I also made a big picture of Ice Tea, (sorry ya’all not sweet tea)

My mind has been on our Euro trip for Summer of 2010....planning abounds... Gotta get my head into Peru....

Scott- we're booked on the July 6th Northern Cities. 2010

Scott- we're booked on the July 6th Northern Cities. 2010

I am looking foreword to this trip, kinda reliving college days of travel in Europe.

I was to have been retired and we have reservations for the Barcelona to Dover then the first Baltic, Actually pretty excited about this trip, as we will spend a few days before and after riding the rails, not sure where yet, Normandy, Wales, Paris, London.... we will see.

Jennifer - what is your next race? Have fun tomorrow at the Boston Marathon. I'll be listening to it on my computer at work. Should be cool and somewhat dry for the runners - perfect for them.

Mark and I did 5 miles tonight. A friend stopped by yesterday with fresh fish from the ocean. We cooked it last night with some crunchy cole slaw, and biscuts along with some tangerine/ruby red grapefruit juice and Gray Goose vodka. It was a fab dinner! So this morning I made this fisherman some pillowcases with tackle on the fabric. I didn't have any deep sea fishing fabric but I think he'll sleep good on these. So on our walk, we dropped off his pillow cases and his wife said he was out - FISHING. I guess he must love it. Boy that fish was awesome - Caught during the night and eaten within 24 hours.

I didn't think I had a great veggie recipe but the Crunchy Cole Slaw is awesome so I'll cut an paste it for you. Probably not low cal but a real crowd pleaser.

Crunchy Cole Slaw

Dressing – mix and set aside in fridge till ready to use

1 Cup Veg Oil
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1/3 sugar
2 packets of the seasoning mix from 2 Ramen Oriental Noodle Soup Mixes
(yes the one for soup) – save the noodles for later.

Dry ingredients – mix and set aside till JUST ready to serve.
1/3 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup sliced almonds
all the noodles from the soup mix – crushed- but not cooked

The Salad -

1 bunch scallions chopped
1 lb Broccoli Cole Slaw (pre packaged) you may need 2 or 3 small pkgs
to make up a pound

NOTE: I have never been able to find the packages (when I needed them)
In the grocery store. I usually chop some broccoli, add some shredded cabbage
and Shredded lettuce.

TO ASSEMBLE:

JUST before serving, put the veggies in a big bowl, add the dry ingredients and then toss
With all the dressing. – SERVE!

Well it's back to the salt mines tomorrow but that's fine, I'm happy to have my job and the paycheck that goes along with it.

Have a good one
denise

Denise, next race is Providence Willow Tree Half-Marathon on May 3. It's my first half-marathon.

Oh and I MET BILL RODGERS tonight! (I think I may have gone a little to fan girl on him)

I'll post the picture and a report of the volunteering/screaming at the Boston Marathon tomorrow!

Best,
Jennifer

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

And now for a bit of silliness, just because... :teeth: The mixer starts here.

This week's mixer theme is "Superpowers That Would Be More Trouble Than They're Worth," and your question:

What would be the superpower you would end up being granted?

Some examples:
  • The ability to tell the future, but only one minute ahead of time.
  • Super-strength, but only in your thumbs.
  • The ability to read the minds of people whose language you don't understand.
  • The ability to see through one layer of clothes.
  • Super breath, strong enough to knock down your opponents. Unfortunately, it's because you're smells like garlic and you always have that power.

Of course, your superpower is unique to you. So feel free to tell us what you would do with your power or why you got so lucky as to be given it. :rolleyes1 Bonus points--again, they're worth nothing--for telling us what superpowers you think other WISHers might get. (Keep it DIS-friendly, though, folks!)

Hi everyone! Did my 4 miles today - another gorgeous day, it was a little bit cooler but perfect for running! I went out in shorts and a tee and felt a little cool at first but soon warmed up. I saw another group of runners but they were dressed in tights and long sleeves. I thought they must have been so hot but maybe they went out earlier in the morning.

Jack - Congrats on booking the Poly! It's a great resort to stay at for the marathon. We stayed there in January and it was really nice just to be able to hop on the monorail the morning of the race (or anytime really). I'm really hoping DF and I can stay there again but I want to wait a couple of months before committing to a resort.

Scott - I love ice tea! Canadian restaurants all serve sweet tea so they always look at me funny when I ask for unsweetened iced tea. I think The Simpsons did a spoof of The Prisoner in one of their episodes - that's the show where inmates were named by numbers Number 6, Number 1 etc.?

Dave - Can't wait to see you and Erica again in May! That will be a mini DIS meet of sorts :)

Jennifer - Wow! I wish I could knock off a 1/2 marathon distance in under two hours. I think it's just a matter of your body getting use to the distances. Last year, I struggled with anything over 4 miles. This year, I'm good up until 7 miles but I don't feel very good after that. Can't wait to hear your Boston Marathon report :) You're part of the scream team?

Connie - A guest house sounds neat! There are times I wish my parents had one. Especially with some of the guests they invite

Mary - Good job on getting out there for those 8 miles! :cheer2: Maybe just think of your upcoming 1/2 as training for next January... do you have anyone doing the race with you that you can train with?

Denise - Looks like a yummy and easy to make coleslaw recipe! I laughed at your salt mine comment! :cutie:

Debra - That's an interesting mixer question! I will have to think about that one..

Have a great night everyone!

Good Monday Morning Team!

What beautiful weekend weather we had. Had 2 great runs & was able to wear shorts. :yay:

Vicky, Renovating an old house is messy work. Most of the demo & rebuild should be done by the end of the week. Then another 2 weeks before the cabinets will be installed. Don't ask about the timeline. That's a whole other story. :headache: But it will all be worth it in the end.

Jen, Waiting for your Boston Cheer Report.

Have a great day.......Sue

Good Morning Team!

Jennifer - to answer the question of only training to 10 miles then doing a half marathon - the excitement of the race easily takes you thru those extra 3 miles! Have fun at the Boston Marathon today!

Right now, I am having trouble with 4 miles - the knee is getting worse - and I have been good about walking and doing weights with it the last week! My orthopod appt on May 5th cannot come too soon right now!

The dogs and I did get out for 5 miles yesterday and 4 miles today, the weather is getting nice, still quite a bit of snow on the ground, but it will be gone soon with the warmer weather. My pace is VERY slow, as I am trying really hard not to favor the bad knee too much.

Have a great day everyone!

Good monday morning y'all.

My house needs renovating after raising kid and dogs. I need a stimulas package to rebuild, I promise not ot do any of the work myself and create jobs. I'm not allowed to touch tools anyway.

Denise if Erica lived closer she would love to touch fabric with you, she is very talented and artistic. Her biggest challange is having the time and the mental energy when she does have a little time.

We are off to Canada next month, we have our passport cards so we can go visit that beautiful country.

I will be doing the Country Music Half this Saturday so decided to take a rest day today. I'm not feeling very competitive this year. Not sure why but I just feel like enjoying the racing and companionship right now.

Mellow Panda:hippie:

Lynn - Thanks! That makes me feel better. Like I said the 13 miler took a lot out of me. I think may also be not having a large dinner before hand and having only cereal before running it when I'm used to having breakfast and lunch before a long run. I think my own self-doubt may be creeping back a little.
I've been really trying to push myself as I'm only a couple of seconds per mile (about 15-20) short of making my top super-secret will not be announced until 48 hours before the race so that I cannot read anyone's comments about it. Hopefully that race day adreline will pay off and let me knock that off.

Also, my friends started a guess Jennifer's race time challenge today (they call it challenge rather than pool as there is no prize lol) so far they are:
Jen: 1:45:55 (Jen is an athletic trainer/future sports medicine doc, so probably has a better idea than even me, but it is faster than I think)
Kyla: 1:47:59 (I think my friends think I'm faster than I am)
Jessy: (who "knows nothing about running, but thinks I'm really fast): 1:40:00 (yeah, right)
Jodie:1:52:00 (probably the closest in my opinion)

Oh and my current thought is 1:50:00 (but I work like the Boston marathon plus or minus 59 seconds) and at least under 2 hours.

And now:
Jennifer's Bill Rodger's story and Marathon Scream Tunnel Report

So last night I volunteered at the pre-race pasta party. Me and three non-runner friends. I have to admit we did it for the jackets. Any way so we're serving at the table closest to the steps/entrance. I'd mention to my friends jokingly that if Ryan Hall or Kara Goucher showed up, they may have to pull me off of them. Well, they didn't but at about 5:30 the mayor comes out to speak and announces that some former Boston champions are going to say a few words. Well, after the second guy is announced, I turn to my friend and go the guy three down on the steps (within 3 feet of us) is Bill Rodgers. "Who?" Me: "Boston Billy, the marathon legend" her: "Who?" me: "GO GET YOUR CAMERA!" She gives me her camera, when they break up from the earlier conversation, I tug on Bill Rodgers jacket and manage to squeak out "Can I please have picture?", and hand friend's camera to his handler. Bill Rodgers asks, "Are you one of the Wellesley girls?" and my response "Yeah, yeah, you're Bill Rodgers." I get a little starstruck.

As for today. My friend and I got out to the scream tunnel a little before 10. The Nike guy comes along and notice my homemade, "Kara, Bring Boston Home" sign and asks me if I'm a Kara fan. My friends laughs and says, "Oh Yeah," before I can say anything. He then gives me a Nike Kara Bring Boston Home T-shirt and gives us a bunch of signs, and tells us we have now become the unofficial-official Kara Bring Boston Home section of the Wellesley Scream tunnel.

At about 10:45 the pack of elite women come through with Kara, Tune, and a Russian at the front of it.

Around 11 elite men come through about 10 Kenyans and Ryan Hall. One of my other signs said Ryan Hall and Brian Sell are my type of men! Ryan was way to in to the race but Brian Sell winked at me (I'm guessing because he wasn't in the leader pack).

At 11:55 I took a break inside to watch a heartbroken Kara come in 3rd by about 15 seconds. Poor girl looked completely torn. For those of you that don't know Ryan Hall also finished 3rd this year.

We grabbed lunch at abou 12:30, so I think I may have missed Kate.

All in all it was a wonderful experience and really got me pumped for my own 1/2 marathon in just under two weeks.

Today is supposed to be my cross training but after watching all of this, I really want to run!

Best,
Jennifer

Vicky...To answer your question about if I have anyone to train with me. Sometimes DH will go with me, but he is out of town this week and won't be home until Friday night. And, when he is here, his pace is much quicker than mine, so I would only slow him down.

My problem is that I can't jog for very long. The first time I jog, I may go for 2 minutes, 3 tops, and then I walk. Each jogging segment seems to get shorter from there. Either my legs feel like lead, or I get out of breath. I never enjoyed running, even in high school, so maybe it's just a mental thing. I've tried the rhythmic breathing and that seems more complicated than anything.

My finishing chip time for the WDW half was 3:25. There are people that solely walk that are faster than that! But, hey, I finished and I got the bling to prove it!

Mary-J - I'll bet your 'Bling" looks just like those who finished in the top half, but your's feels better ' cause YOU did it! And Thats what counts. :thumbsup2

Hi Team! Just got back from dinner and training. My PT is on vacation so I got to workout with DF's trainer. It's always fun because we do a boxing workout. I think it's a nice break from weights.

Lynn - Sorry to hear about your knee. I hope it feels better soon. Do you do any core exercises? I've found those really helped me with my knee problems.

Mary - Psstt... my DF "ran" the 1/2 and finished around the same time you did. On another board that I read, people were posting that they finished a 1/2 (not Disney) in 2 hours but weren't able to walk for a week afterward. I'd love that time but not sure that's the way to do it. I think it's pretty good you're able to run 2 minutes - you've got my guy beat ;) I get the lead leg feeling too but I find after the first 1/2 mile my body warms up and the feeling disappears.

Jennifer - Cool race report! Can't wait to hear about your upcoming 1/2!

Sue - I've never known anyone who had a renovation that finished "on schedule" :)

Anyway, I'm exhausted from my workout and I'm going to try and get an early night.

Lynn, your knee sounds like my neck, a royal pain!

Jennifer, loved your report. I felt like I was there!

MaryJ we finished the 1/2, I wasn't that much ahead of you and my medal shines just as bright and I'm very proud of both of them. When I tell people that I did a 1/2 marathon most are truly surprised and in awe. We're doing just fine walking!

Wilbur, it's true renovations take so long and cost so much. We do a lot ourselves but Mark will always defer to the experts if they can do it quicker. His time is costly and when he can make more $$ at work than doing renovations, he hires out the work. We have someone that does a nice job for us, is not overly expensive and we can trust him with the sliverware.....a big plus.

Dave. Erica can come play in my studio any time. When we have bee nights here, it's a lot of fun. Have her come up Weds. the girls will be over around 6:30:) Miranda was over yesterday making a diaper bag for squirt. She has more good days than bad. She even went and did 4 miles last week on her day off. That's the most she can go without a bathroom break. Shes at the 1/2 point now. It'll be a hot summer in the kitchen for her.

I'll sign off for now, take care all. Won't walk till thursday now because of other commitments, unless Mark wants to get up early in the morning. We'll see..

denise

MaryJ - I walked the whole marathon last Jan - finished in 7 hours and 7 min - still got the medal!

Vicki - yes I do some pilates exercises for core work.

I'll post more later - have a good evening everyone!

Good Morning Team! Quiet here today!

My training partners are my 2 malamutes! I find it easier to walk with them rather than other people - that way I can keep the pace I want to keep! When I walk with Scott, he keeps pushing me off the road:lmao: (I know he doesn't mean to- we are just both used to walking in the same area of road, and when we walk together, one of us has to move over)

Yes, Denise, my knee has been a royal pain!

Another nice day here, the snow should all be gone after today, at least until the weekend when we are predicted to get more rain or snow!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone,

I did 6.2 miles in 46 minutes this morning. It was an amazing feeling. I didn't feel tired at all at the end and that's on the faster side even for me.

Today's a double day for me as I have a 1hr 30 min dance practice tonight as well.

Erica, Have fun in Nashville!

Best,
Jennifer

Just stopping in quickly, but decided to post, too

My problem is that I can't jog for very long. The first time I jog, I may go for 2 minutes, 3 tops, and then I walk. Each jogging segment seems to get shorter from there. Either my legs feel like lead, or I get out of breath. I never enjoyed running, even in high school, so maybe it's just a mental thing. Mary, I'm with you. (I finished WDW 1/2 at 3:19 so must have been just ahead of you! ) I can jog a little here and there, but just can't keep doing it at a regular pace. On shorter races when I sometimes try to jog longer, I feel like I'm killing myself.

After I returned home and was at the local BPOE with DH, we were talking to a runner about my time. He relayed a story of a Boston Marathon years ago where someone who had finished it in 5 or 6 hours had gone to the winner to congratulate him. When the winner asked the person what their time was, they tried to not answer, but finally the winner got it out of them and they meekly said (whatever it was) Then the winner said - Don't be ashamed of that I could never run for that long! - and something along the lines of I may be faster, but that fact that you're out there for all those hours is nothing to be disappointed in. There's lots of people who may be faster but don't have the stamina to go for the long period of time. - It's one my favorite marathon stories. And as someone who, it seems no matter how much I train, may be relegated to a 14 - 15 minute pace, seems to fit me perfectly.

But, here I am, have taken two days in a row off AGAIN. OH well, I'll try to do an hour or more on the TM as I watch Idol tonight.

Anne
