:simba: Hakuna Matata Team Bios :simba:

Windwalker, aka Dave aka Panda- I'm 60 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually. I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Married to Sally.

es45 aka Elizabeth- I'm 42 and married with 2 young daughters. I ran my first 13.1 in the 2011 Princess Half.

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily- My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva – I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

GirltheGecko aka Hope- I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn – I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare” time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away, so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

LynnG, aka Lynn, (of Lynn and Scott)- 60 years old, retired, we are both Disneyholics. We have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

MaryJ aka Mary- I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

Motomiker, aka Mike – I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois. I have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. Married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Robert), working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan, and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon

Saylan – I'm from the frosty north of Canada. I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times). I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

piglet24, aka Regina- I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. I started running to help manage some stress about a year and a half ago, and have continued because I enjoy it. Of course, I love Disney and am always happy to have another reason to go!

DisneyGerry, aka Gerry - Lives in Celebration, FL, transplant from MD after numerous vacations to visit central FLA. Trying to kick up my race schedule this year starting with the Disney Half in January. Play and work in the theme park corridor

bunnyfoo, aka Vicky - My name is Vicky and I live in Toronto, Canada. I started running back in 2008 so I could lose weight become more active. I wasn't into low carb diets but it seemed like a lot of runners had great abs AND they ate carbs. I thought "Hey I can do that!" :goodvibes I started as an indoor treadmill runner and eventually worked my way outside and signed up for my first race - the Minnie 15K. As they say, the rest is history! I have had my share of bumps, bruises and sprains but have had a lot of fun along the way and have met a lot of great people including everyone on Hakuna Matada! Three years later, running, working out and healthy eating have all become a part of my lifestyle. My other interests are movies, reading, road trips and baking!

rubato, aka Tandy - Hi. My name is Tandy and I’m the mother of a fabulous 12 year old preteen son. :lovestruc I’ve been married to Frank (a non runner) for 18 years. I’m a full time student, going back to school to become a nurse. I have always run for fitness, but it wasn’t until my impending
40th birthday that I decided to become a distance runner. I love the miles and can’t wait to run my first ultra-marathon someday.

RunRookie, aka Rick - My name is Rick and I live in Crystal Lake, IL. I am married with three children (one 13yr old still at home). I am a new runner, having started in April 2011. My initial goals were to lose 160 pounds, improve my overall fitness, and to live a healthier lifestyle. Since then, I have run 15 races and lost 110 pounds! I am a big fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Sci-Fi in general, Disney, photography, music, movies, and technology/gadgets. And I keep a fitness blog at rickpeete.squarespace.com.

RadioFanatic, aka KimberlyI'm 39 mama of an almost 4 year old boy, will be 40 by the race; and was goaded into doing this past 1/2 by friends who knew I could do it although I hadn't run a minute in my life. I started training on May 1, 2011 by doing couch to 5k and the first day was miserable where even running that minute made me want to die. Since then, I've lost 70 pounds, ran the whole 1/2 and am looking forward to my new goal. I'm planning on doing a 1/2 in april and in september, my first full in october here locally and some other 10k and 15k runs in between and my second and most exciting full on the 20th anniversary at disney!

Hey gang Happy March!!!!

Hope everyone is doing good, we have some horrible weather here today so taking my time leaving for work to wait for the salters and plows to get out there.

Officially registered for Chicago yaaaa my first RnR so excited and to get to meet Liz, and see Mike, Rick, Christi, Liz and Patrick I am so excited....hey doesn`t Pat and Jim live in Chicago also? So Vicki and I are officially road trippin' wahoooo now we just have to work on Rebecca ;)

Good March morning y'all.

It's been a trying week but "I think the worst is over now and the morning sun is shinning like a red rubber ball".

I took a few days off with a cold but tomorrow I'll be back in the training saddle. Hope everyone is doing great and happy as a bug on a cupcake, just like the ones in the Disney 3D movie "Bugs Life".

Dave:hippie:

Hi team!

Dave - Sorry to hear about the difficult week! Well, the weekend is almost here and good things are around the corner I'm sure! I hope everything is ok!

Kim - I wasn't expecting the snow either. I thought it was just going to rain. Go figure! I am very much looking forward to the road trip! It's going to be awesome!!! Have you been able to find a PT yet?

Kimberley - Good job on all the running lately! Did you get any gifts for being in the audience? Were there any meet and greets with the hosts before or after the show?

AFM - I had a training session with my chiro yesterday. It's interesting to see the different exercises the trainers have. My other trainer uses combines a lot of weights and exercises together - barbell squats, leg press, pull downs etc. and he also does a lot of metabolic exercises like squat jumps and frog leaps. My chiro does a lot of body weight exercises - pushups, planks and mixes in rehab type exercises - band walking, hip opening exercises. We also did some deadlifting last night which I always like. We did 3 sets of 6x95lbs from the ground. I have to remember to bring my gloves

I had planned to run last night but my knee was feeling sore. So I'll give it a shot tonight when I get home from work. It will probably be on the TM unless the snow melts.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi, team!

I posted my mini race report on the old thread yesterday. You can read it here:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=44177041#post44177041

Dave: Hope you are feeling better and back to speed tomorrow.

Kim: Congrats on Chicago! Sorry about the bad weather where you are. I guess it isn't a good time to tell you that it is 80F and sunny here, is it?;) We have stormy, much cooler weather arriving tomorrow.

Vicky: Hope your knee is better soon. Is there any swelling?

Continuing to do my PT tonight and then out for a brief walk. Enjoy the day!

Hi Team!

Vicky~ thanks for once again starting the new thread and listing the races! Hope that your knee isn't too bad. No, they haven't offered runner tracking for the races this weekend. In fact, its a little old school and I have to turn in the timing chip at the end of the race or pay a fine.

Dave~ sorry about the tough week! Keep your chin up little buckaroo!

Kim~ Yeah! that you got registered for the Chicago RNR half and glad that you are feeling better! Did Jack come home yet?

AFM~ I'm once again toasted from no sleep, two hours yesterday and only an hour today. I think I may actually do a 24 or 48 hour endurance race of some sort someday - I know I can stay awake for it! I'm all ready for my trip to Little Rock, Arkansas this weekend. There are a bunch of WISHERS going! Rick is giving me a lift to the airport in the morning and Susie Capehart is picking me up in AR and giving me a ride to my hotel! Jim and Pat Welch, Lily and Ted, and Wendy Sibley are all going. It will be a good chance to get to know more of the family!
I got a new pair of Brooks Adrenalines today, a few tossable sweatshirts from the Good Will store, and we went and looked at a dog for adoption. She is an American Foxhound that is four years old. Liz really wants her, I'm borderline as to her behavior around our housecats. She has a really pretty face though, so I'll probably give in. :upsidedow
I'm a little concerned about finishing the full marathon on Sunday. I need to be done early enough to get back to my hotel and clean up and be checked out on time. It's going to be close, so it will be a game day decision as to wether I start with the early group send off or with the main mass of runners. The early starters are not allowed to finish in less than six hours or be disqualified. So, it's either go for a PR or dog it and take my time for less stress.
I had a cancer doc appointment yesterday and got the written results of my CT scan from December. Doc says everything is great, report says there are a couple of cysts on my liver and I have a dengerating disc in my lower back. I pretty much knew about my back, I injured it in 1999 and it still twinges once in awhile. The doc doesn't seem concerned about my liver. So, I guess I will be around for awhile yet! :thumbsup2

Have a great weekend! If I post it will be short and sweet from my phone-

- Mike :cool2:

Mike your sleepless schedule makes me tired just hearing about it. I need my sleep and try to get as much as possible. My performance level has gone up since I started trying to regularly get an extra hour a night.

Tomorrow I'm back to training, might try to establish a new PR standard. I'm feeling good and strong so why not.

Anyone else feeling ready to blast a new Personal Record for a certain distance? Let's do it.

Dave:hippie:

Mike: Congrats on the good report from the Doc! You are "strong like Bull!" :goodvibes If you give in and get the dog, we will need to introduce her to my dog. Maybe they will be buddies! See ya tomorrow!

Vicky: I am sorry to hear about your knee. I hope it recovers quickly! I am excited that we will be running the Chicago RnR Half. :)

Kim: Chicago awaits! Getting the team together for the Chicago RnR Half is going to be epic!

Dave: I am sure you will have an awesome training run tomorrow! You are totally in the 'zone'!

AFM: I got a 4 mile Tempo Run in on Tuesday and another 4 mile Easy Run today. I wanted to get in a run/walk on Wednesday but I had a twinge in my right hip and tightness in my left calf when I woke up that morning (I wonder what I was dreaming about) so I decided to just rest.

It has been a stressful week, with a friend of mine getting laid off after 18 years of service. These are the times when being a Youth Minister can be difficult but so important in the lives of young people going through life's "curveballs".

This weekend I have to help lead a youth retreat so I will have limited access to the web. So since I won't be able to get my Long Run in on Saturday/Sunday, I am going to try to get my 10-miler done EARLY tomorrow morning at the gym. I will have to start the run at 5AM to be finished and cleaned up in time to pick up Mike. Is it possible to fall asleep while running? :rotfl2:

Wishing everyone a great weekend! Don't forget to enjoy your runs! :goodvibes

Vicky:

Can you add the following race to the calendar for me:

Nov 3: Indianapolis Monumental Half Marathon, IN

Thanks!

Well after commenting to Mike about getting more sleep I was up most of the night with this cold I've aquired. So workout today will be lighter than I planned.

I saw that a lot of the WISHers are invading AK for the half, good look Mike and have an awesome race.

Everyone have a magical TGIF!!

Dave:hippie:

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck Mike on both your races - the 5K and especially the marathon! Burn some pavement! Can't wait to hear how it went :)

March

3 - Little Rock 5K, Little Rock, AK - Mike
4 - Little Rock Marathon (Full), Little Rock, AK - Mike

Good Morning Team!

Just found March thread, have not gone back to read Feb. yet.

Dave - Hope everything is going better! Hope the severe weather misses you!

Kim - Road trip sounds good!

Mike - Have fun in Little Rock! Glad to hear good report from Doc. And - Get some sleep! Good luck with the dog!

Rick - Hope your upcoming week is less stressful.

Elizabeth- Keep up the good work with PT.

AFM - Finally back from South Africa, a day late due to airline strike in Frankfort, we were delayed a day there. Airport was a mess! But Lufthansa did put us up for the night and fed us. It was an amazing trip! Now to get back in the swing here - need to get out with the dogs, too cold and wind for bike riding outside, so down to the basement.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hey guys! I'm just missing the HM gang!! Hope all is well with everyone!

I haven't been on Facebook much and I may even delete me account eventually. Too many nosy people and sooo much drama all the time...I feel like I'm in high school all over again. The only people I love chatting with are you all so I figured I'll just pop back into the boards and see if I can't keep up with everything in here!!

Not much new with me. I'm just treading water with my training. No race plans...no pace plans. Just trying to work on some Maffetone style heart rate training. It seems to be working slowly but surely. Also I've hit some trails here and there when it has been dry enough and I look forward to more of that this summer/fall.

Mike - I see you are signed up for a TON of races...I'm not surprised! Are you trying to compete with last years count? And a full this weekend? GL!!! You can do it...walk it in if you have to!

Vivky - YAY for RnR Chicago!!!! You guys are going to have a blast!!! You have some knee issues now? How the ankle?! Your trainer has you doing lots of stuff that I avoid from prior issues. I tend to have issues with any plyo moves. My knee acts up every time. Even squats and lunges. I really would like to find out a way to do them though because me lumpy legs and large behind could use the toning!! Do you cycle at all in the warmer months?

Lynn - Glad to hear you guys are back from Africa! I'd take a day in Germany even if it is unexpected. Knowing you guys..I'm sure you made the most of it. ;) Do you have rollers/trainers for your bikes? We have looked at them, but we need to get a rack first and foremost.

Rick - Youth ministry must be so exciting. We have the most wonderful lady at our church that heads up the youth department. She has talked my husband into being a disciple for our Passion Walk..lol. I can't wait to see that!! Have a great time this weekend!!

Dave - You are amazing!! You always set your bar high and every time you work your butt of to reach it!! What distance and what PR? It's always interesting to me to hear that you walk as fast as I run sometimes!!

Uuuuuhh ohhhh...back to work. Bummer.

OH...one more thing...anyone that is not on Pinterest should join. Give me your emails and I can send an invite!!

Good Morning Team!

Eva - Good to see you post again! It was actually nice to spend the night in Frankfurt, although we did not see much of the city - just what we could see from the airport shuttle. We got out of the airport about 6pm, so just went to hotel, ate dinner, and went to bed (we had been up since 4am the day before, and got only about 4 hours sleep on the plane - up early for last morning game drive - then breakfast - flight to Johannesburg airport - learned that 7pm flight out of Jo’burg had been delayed until 1am - 10 hr flight - got to Frankfort at noon, missing noon flight out - rebooked on 5pm flight on United - got in line for boarding passes at 3:30pm, at 4:30pm finally made it to the desk and learned info was missing - had to go back to Lufthansa for missing info - by this time, flight was nearly closed, so we got Lufthansa to just book us out for next day.) So much for our saga getting home. The next day the airport was not so crazy, I guess all the long lines were due to the strike at the airport.

AFM - Not much activity here yesterday - other than running up and down stairs with unpacking and laundry. We went out to see Doc Severinsen last night, he was great!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Good morning team.

Eva: I'm not a FB fan either, so I totally understand.
I'm struggling with the no race plans thing myself. My son and I are doing a 10k next month, and I have nothing else planned for 2012! What am I going to do with myself?

Lynn: I can't wait to hear about your trip. Welcome back! Sorry about the strike.

Dave: I'm sick too, no sleep. I'm coughing, congested and have a fever of 102! Yuck. Hope you feel better soon.

Mike: Good luck this weekend. I'm sure you'll kick butt!
I'm glad the doctors not worried about the liver! That's great news.

Rick: I didn't realize you were a youth minister. That's wonderful. Did you get your 10 miler in?

Elizabeth: That's really strange about the pace group. I wonder why they were so off on their time? I'm sorry to hear there wasn't more spectator support. I really need that at a certain point in my races.

Vicky: Did you get blisters or just callouses? I just can't do the heavy weight like that anymore. I guess I'm just not motivated enough. ;)

Kim: Congrats on signing up for Chicago. Should be super fun to get together with everyone.

AFM: Well, I'm a little jealous that everyone's getting together in Chicago and may have to look into it. It is only an 8 & 1/2 hour drive after all.

Got to run yesterday, but had to cut it short. I was hoping for 6, but only made it 3 before the knee started hurting. I'm hoping it's a fluke, but have a feeling not. :sad1:

School's going great. I'm trying to get my summer schedule together now. I just don't know how to work it all out and still go to Europe. The day we're flying back is finals day, so I have to try to get all my professors to let me take it early. Fun, fun.

I am going to take Harrison out for a 4 mile run today. He's dreading it, but he'll get through it. ;) I'm sick, so it's going to be worse for me.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Well, forget the Chicago race. I just looked it up and I'll be in Germany. Oh well, it was a nice thought.
