Panda's first competitive walk race of the year:
had my first competitive walk race of the season. The "Trooper Island". This is a 2 mile walk race followed by a 5K un race. One of my walking group walkers and I were doing it together. This was an evening race which is harder for me since I do all my workouts in the early mornings. But being evening it's was humid but not as hot with the sun gone down.
My walking buddy and I planned to just go out briskly and try to maintain a challenging pace and then we would finish strong. Well there was a really tall race walker there that shot off the line and took a quick lead. We were not expecting anyone to go out that strong. I went after him and slowly gained on him and finally passed him at the turn around. My catching him took the wind out of his sails but unfortunately it caused me to excert a bit to much during the first half and didn't leave me with a strong kick at the end. My walking buddy passed me with about a quarter mile left and I ended up 9 seconds behind him in 22:18.
It was fun and after I had a G2 and a couple of bananas, my walking buddy and I decided to do the 5K also so we did a brisk but comfortable 39:40. We were not last but close, I think we had 4 or 5 runners behind us.
Thanks for reading.
