Sorry gang been soooo MIA, busy weekend. So sad we closed the pool:sad1: means summer is officially over at my house. Black tarp is just icky.

Margie: No not really taper cause I didn't really ramp up the milage. Started out for a 8M on Sunday it just poured rain so we cut it short and I did a plyo instead I have been keeping up with exercise just not walking as life is just too busy.

I have back to back 1/2 marathons coming up, USAF in about a week and a half and Scotia right after so neither will be quick just getting it done. USAF has a 6 hour time limit for the 1/2 and Scotia 3:40 so will probably be about 3:15 on both.

After those I will decide how the foot is and decide if I am going to move my 1/2 disney reg to the full, spots still avail of course.

Have a great day all

Hi everyone!

Been MIA for a while, but glad to be back!

Dave...congrats on choosing a new Panda abode. Are we going to see pics?

Mike...good luck on the home improvement projects!

And a big Congratulations to everyone that took part in the DL Half. DH and I hope to be there next year.

AFM: We are having some home improvements of our own. We are in the midst of waterproofing our basement, which means that the contractor has dug up around our foundation leaving HUGE piles of dirt in our yard! DH's cousin stopped by the other day and asked what was going on. I told him "Those moles are awful, aren't they?" Hopefully by the end of next week it will all be over.

After two years of "retirement", I'm going back to my volunteer job of being a Children's Leader at my Bible Study Fellowship class today. Have mixed emotions about it, but I know in the end I'll enjoy it.

DH and I got in 3 miles on Sunday. It was hot and I had a migraine after, but still glad we did it.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning Team!

MaryJ - welcome back!

Mike - great job on your training! You are right that it is hard to train for the Jan races, I think we all go in under trained to those!

Kim - good luck on your back to back 1/2 marathons! Scott always says training is overrated:lmao:

Dave - glad to hear you so happy!

Margie - Yes, we are having some cooler temps - although it will heat up for today and tomorrow, then cooler again. It was quite cool this morning for our walk. Hope the cooler temps make it out to you!

Sue - :wave2:

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi Team!

Vicky- I’m glad the weather has been cool, windy, and cloudy here. I actually love that kind of weather. I especially like running in it when it’s not too windy, but there’s a breeze. Yay for being lazy on the weekend!:goodvibes How’s the de-cluttering going? What marathon plan did you decide on?

Dave- That’s great you’re going to be ready for your half in 2 weeks! Way to go on beating all your injuries!!!

Scott- I’m glad the half went well. Congrats!

Margie- We have a local farmer’s market here but it always seems like I’m working and never make it over to check it out. I’d go for the fresh veggies too! What kind of decisions are you needing to make for the furnace? I tried to get in my e-mail to e-mail you but my computer wouldn’t let me? I’m going to try again here in a minute. Will you put me down for the Barber to Boise 5K on 10/16? It’s our official run for the volunteer program I’m doing and I’ll be running it with the girls.

Lynn- Way to go on the half!! I’m so glad you got your C2C medal!!! I bet the dogs were happy to see you.

Mike- I didn’t make it in for my long run on Sunday. I was so exhausted from working on a spare bedroom all weekend and DH was too tired to run as well so I just called it a rest day. I’m really shooting for one last long run this weekend though before I start to taper.

Mary- Nice to see you back! Glad you’re still getting some training in.

Emily- How was the half?! Can't wait to read about it!

AFM, my long run Sunday was a no go…I was so tired I could hardly keep my eyes open and figured if I was having trouble keeping my eyes open, making my body move while running would probably be pretty hard! However, I did make it out for a 4 miler last night. The weather was great and I started at about 8:30pm. Tomorrow, I’m hoping for 6 miles. I’m happy the weather is cooling down. It makes it more enjoyable running and Sydney can come along and get her exercise too. I still have one more shot for a long run this weekend before I taper for wine and dine. 3 weeks until we leave for our trip!

Hello Team! Sorry this is a very long post, but since it was our first half I wanted to include our impressions of the race.

Patrick and I completed our first half marathon on Sunday! Overall, we both enjoyed the course and had fun.

We caught a shuttle from out hotel around 4am. We got to the pre-race area and immediately hit the restrooms. Then we checked our bag and visited the restrooms again. I started looking for lime green and found Lynn and Scott in the first group I saw. It was very nice meeting them and I also met a few other WISHers.

We were in Corral F which was the second to last corral. Getting to the corral took some time because everyone had to cross the street and get onto the sidewalk heading in the correct direction. So, once we worked our way through the crowd we made it to our corral. DH and I did not like that the speakers did not extend back to our corral so we couldn't hear anything that was going on at the start line. We slowly made our way up to the start line and started about 30 min after the first wave.

We were finally on our way and began the weaving around people that would continue for the next 13 miles. I know this is the case with any race, especially one as large as the DL half, but it's one aspect of races that I dislike. While passing people I tripped on a reflector on the street but at the time it didn't bother me. Once we got to the corrals DH decided he need to use the restroom again so I was on the lookout for a place to stop. I stopped at the bathrooms near Toy Story Mania in DCA. There was a line for the womens but I decided just to wait in line b/c I figured every bathroom would be busy. I had forgotten about the bathrooms on the way to Grizzly River Rapids and when we ran by there wasn't a line. So, I was not happy with myself for forgetting about that bathroom as I would have wasted a few less minutes there.

We continued to make our way through the parks. We didn't stop to take pictures with any of the characters as the lines were long and I was focused on meeting my time goal. I have a lot of blurry photos taken on the run. We made it out onto the streets of Anaheim and the course was much wider here. Again, I had to focus on not tripping over the reflectors on the street and the uneven pavement in some places (I’m pretty clumsy). DH made another pit stop around mile 6 or 7. We enjoyed the course entertainment. It was fun seeing the groups perform and having people cheer for you. We finally made it to Angels Stadium. I thought this was a hectic part of the course. There is the nutrition, water, and med stop right before you get into the stadium. And the stadium itself is a bottleneck because the path around the field isn’t very wide. I felt like there was lot going on since I was trying to take pictures of the mile signs, put biofreeze on my knee, and eat a Clif shot. If I ever do this run again, I’ll eat my gel after the stadium since there is water stop just outside it. Once we made it out of the stadium, which was still fun to run through despite the narrower path, DH made another pit stop. At this point, the underside of my left foot started to hurt but I decided to ignore it and keep on going.

We got to mile 12 and DH’s knee was hurting so he decided to walk the rest of the way. I wanted to meet my time goal so I decided to go on ahead. I finished with a chip time of 3:12 but subtracting bathroom stops I made in about 3 hours which was my goal. I waited for DH at the finish line and he came in about 3 minutes behind me. We went to get our medals and have our pictures taken.

DH made it through the race with only his knee bothering him. He was sore for the rest of the day Sunday and a bit on Monday. I was not so lucky. My foot really hurt once I got done with the race and the walk back to the shuttle was awful. Besides my foot I felt pretty good after the race, until about 2:30 when the pain in my legs set in. We spent the rest of Sunday icing our injuries and visiting the pool at our hotel. Monday was a very painful day for me. I had to forgo visiting the parks because walking on my foot hurt so much and I love going to the parks so the pain was pretty bad for me to not go. I was disappointed we didn’t get our picture taken with our medals in front of the castle but DH says we can do it next time we go which will probably be in the next few weeks since we still need to use up our tickets. My legs felt better by Tuesday but my foot still hurt. The swelling appears to have gone down and I have a little bit of bruising. Since it’s still very painful to walk I went to the doctor’s today. I had x-rays taken but she couldn’t see any fractures so she said I probably just bruised it. I’m supposed to avoid any high impact activities, so no running, and if it doesn’t get better in a few weeks to go back in.

That’s the very long story of our first half marathon. There were some things we didn’t like, but overall we had a good time. And I have some lessons learned if I ever do it again. We don’t have anymore races planned right now. We have started talking about doing another half but we’re probably going to wait at least a month to see where life takes us before making a decision.

Lynn & Scott – I’m glad I was able to meet up with before the race. It was so nice meeting you!

Have a good night!
Emily

P.S. The sellers rejected our offer, but we’re not too disappointed there’s another house out there for us.

Hi, everyone!

Congrats, Emily on your first half! Sorry to read about your injury; I'm glad to see that it isn't a fracture.

As for me, I'm still enjoying my switch to Galloway training; it fits my schedule better. 68 degrees this morning felt great to run in. Must have for everyone else too because the trail was busy at 5:30 this morning.

Enjoy your day!

Good Morning Team!

Regina – the dogs are always glad to see me! It’s not that they do not like the kennel, they are excited whenever I take them there, but they go crazy when I pick them up!

Emily – great race report! Sounds almost like mine would have been had I written one – same on first potty break – by the time I made it to the Stadium, the crowd had thinned, so I had no issues getting thru the Stadium. Now that you have an official time, if you get put in a last corral, you can take you time in and have it changed – Scott did that, he was assigned to corral F also, but at the Expo he was changed to B! That will help some of the weaving thru slower people, but not eliminate it completely. It was great to meet you and Patrick, glad to hear that you found some other WISHers. I saw very few green shirts, but saw a lot of people that I knew. Take care of that foot!

I decided to eat breakfast before walking as it is cooler in the mornings. I will be getting out there as soon as I post this. Going for 3 miles today, need to readjust to the altitude, although it is not as hard after only 5 days as it is after 2 weeks. Weather has been very nice here, but not good for the wildfires – a big one in Boulder, CO that has burned quite a few homes and threatening more. Pixie Dust for our running friends down there!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Dave-Congratulations on your New Home! :goodvibes

Elizabeth- WTG with getting out there at 5:30am :worship:

Emily-:thanks: for the Great Race Report! :cool1:
Other races have bottle necks too...the International one here in
Detroit Michigan is one of the worse I have done...but I enjoy it anyway!

Another house will come along :goodvibes

Kim-You will Do Great! I did back to backs last year
and I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was. I think
my longest mileage for them was one 10-11 miler.

Liz-So you like running through Mud and fire! :cool1:

Lynn-I agree with Scott for 5K & 10K's and even for
Half Marathons as long as you have a good base mileage built up!

How is your knee?

Mary- WTG on your 3-miler.
Too Cute - "Those moles are awful, aren't they?"

Leader of Teachers for Teaching Children?
After two years of "retirement", I'm going back to my volunteer job of being a Children's Leader at my Bible Study Fellowship class today.

Regina-WTG on your 4-miler!
Will get your race on the Team Calendar!
I really like the Farmer's Market too!

Sue-what are you doing on your new bike?
Have I missed a post? :confused3

Did you run with the group last night?

AFM:Gym this morning; 1.5 miles on the DM; one lap at the 12 mpm pace; lower body workout.

Good Morning Team!

Margie, It's never a complete rest day. The dog is always wanting his evening walk. I can never sit down for a quick break. He just stands & stares at me until I take him.
What is your decision on the furnace?

Lynn, Did you send strong winds our way? Please take them back.

Vicky, Did you see the paper (Metro) this morning? The deep fried butter lady at the EX made $45,000. She sold 3x what she thought she would sell. Did you do run club last night?

Emily, Nice race report. Glad to hear you had a good time. Hope your foot is feeling better soon.

AFM, I had a good run last night. Cooler temps here but you could still feel the humidity.

Have a great day everyone.......Sue

Good morning team! Chilly day here today - cloudy and it looks like it might rain. I'm so unprepared. I'm still in summer mode and haven't picked up any long pants or sweaters yet. I lost a bit of weight this year so my stuff from last year doesn't fit. At least tomorrow is casual Friday and I can wear jeans. I guess I'll have to do a little bit of shopping this weekend!

Sue - No I didn't get the Metro this morning because I got a lift down to work. I heard that there were people waiting 3+ hours in line to try the deep fried butter. The thought of it still makes me gag even though I know it's just wrapped in batter. So I guess to fund future Disney trips, all we have to do is to think of something really unappetizing and hock it at the CNE next year ;) The Running Room postponed the marathon clinic until September 21 so I'll just work use Higdon's plan until then. I didn't make it out to the free group last night because of a dinner.

Margie - The furnace decision sounds like a big one. I don't know much about them myself but I could ask a couple of friends who have houses and see what they think.

Lynn - Have fun on your 3 miler this morning! I think I'll take your suggestion and create a hybrid. I noticed that the novice plans only have one run a weekend. So I figured that I'll alternate weekends that have running on both Saturday and Sunday and running on just one day.

Scott - Any pics of the medal and the C2C medal? I loved that they used color for the DL medal.

Mike - Did you figure out a fix to your tile problem? I hope it doesn't get too complicated. 2:11 sounds like a totally doable time considering how fast you've been running lately. I'll bet you break 2:10 without a sweat! See if you can do some hip opening exercises between now and the W&D. My PT had me doing stuff like deadlifting, Spiderman crawls, squats, lunges … those helped me out a lot with my hip tightness.

Dave - How was training with your walking group? Yay for a new happier Panda! Hope the meeting with your bank went well :)

Kim - I was just saying to my co-worker (she's doing the Scotia 1/2 too) that there's only two more weekends for training before Scotia. That means there's really only three more weekends until the race!! But I'm looking forward to it and to seeing you and Mike! What were you guys thinking about for a dinner? I keep thinking of the Spaghetti Factory but there has to be another place for pasta downtown. Hope your foot is doing better today! Are you thinking of changing to the full or the Goofy?

Mary - I :laughed: at your mole comment!! Welcome back and WTG on your 3 miler! Way to tough it out with a migraine as well! Good luck with the Sunday school classes and keep us posted on how they go.

Regina - The de-cluttering is going well! I got rid of three bags of clothing! Yay! I also saved a few pieces of clothing that I want to try and have taken in but have never had that done. I'm not sure if it's going to be worth the money or not. Then I have a pile of running magazines that I can't seem to get rid of but don't have the room to keep either. Anyway that's one of the reasons I've been a little busier lately (I know I owe you an email  ) How did your 6 miler go yesterday? How are you feeling about the W&D 1/2?

Emily - Fantastic RR! I felt like I was right there with you! Almost every big race I've done has bottlenecks and crowding for the first mile or so. I also struggle with whether or not to use the washrooms during a race. I hate that it takes time off from your finish but running when you feel like you have to go is also an uncomfortable feeling. I wonder if the pain in your legs might have come from not drinking enough fluid or getting in enough salt after the run. I've had that happen to me a couple of times too. Hope your foot is feeling better now! Sorry to hear about the house but like you said there's one out there with your name on it!

AFM - I got out for a run this morning. I'm trying to make a conscious effort to get up and run earlier on the weekends and Mondays and Thursdays. I figure I need to start getting accustomed to the cooler morning weather as well as the feeling of getting up early. I did a 3 miler this morning but took my time running. There were a couple of other runners out there. I'm still trying to figure out whether I can do a 2:00 half - I was talking to my friend at work who's running the Scotia 1/2 as well. We calculated the split times and I have to make it to the 10K mark around 55:00 minutes. I've never run a 55:00 10K before, let alone two back to back. So I'm unsure of whether I'm being too ambitious. There will be pace groups there but I'm worried if I stick with the 2:00 group from the start, I'll burn out. I might try doing intervals for first half and running the last 10K straight and trying to catch up to the pace group. But then I've always been told that it's harder to catch up that it is to start at the pace that you want to finish at.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team (again)!

I came back to check up after getting in my walk. It was a bit warmer than I expected for 60 degrees, but I need practice in warmer temps anyway. I am still going really slowly, but I figure I am still in recovery mode, so I am not pushing the speed yet. Besides, for the next 2 races, I do not need to keep up a 16 m/m anyway!

Margie - knee is holding in there - last night I decided to see how much it hurt without regular ibuprophen, so far, no different. I figure that if I can ween myself off the stuff, it will work better when I need it!

Sue - sorry about the wind!

Hi to everyone else! Have a great day!

Hello Team.

I've finally come to ground and relaxing with some pizza a beer and football. After a week on the road and sleeping in three different beds the last three nights, I'm ready for an evening of relaxing.

Sounds like everyone is doing well and having fun races. I have missed all my regular races lately but I'm taking 4 days off and doing the USAF half in Dayton Ohio.

Isn't early fall weather awesome?

Hey Team!!!!!!!!!!

Vicky: Wow haven't been to Old Spagetti Factory in about 5 years. It works for me. Will send you a email and we can figure out where is best to pick you up.

Dave : see you a week today!!!!!

Margie: Thanks, I just wish the races where reversed, USAF believe it or not has a 6 hour time limit for the 1/2 and Scotia is 3:40 so will take it super easy at USAF that one is more for meeting up with friends anyways.

To all that did DL this past weekend CONGRATS!!!!!!

It is official Mike and I transfered our 1/2 registrations for full. It is a weird process but glad it is possible. We had to register for the full then submit a form for a refund on the 1/2. I knew all along while registering for the 1/2 it wasn't really what I wanted to do so now I am super excited and read to get to work.

Have a super day everyone!!!

It is very impressive the workouts and walks you manage to get in.

Good Morning Team!

Dave - glad you are getting some time to relax. Good luck on the race!

Kim - glad to hear you switched to the full, it sounds like that is what you wanted. The Space Coast Race we are doing over Thanksgiving weekend also has a 7 hour limit for the half (half and full have same cut off time). I am really glad the pressure will be off for that one. At the Denver Rock and Roll we are doing next month - Scott signed up for the full, but is switching to the half because of his knee, from the website, all you have to do is show up at the Expo (or even at the start of the race) and get a different bib. Of course, no refund, but at least they make the switch easy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIZ!!!

Margie - glad you made the decision on the furnace. Have fun making cookies this afternoon.

AFM - again, having breakfast before my walk, yesterday we made it 3 miles, then a couple of trips on the bike to the mailbox (.8 mile round trip), a Pilates tape and some weights. I am still up in the air about todays walk, I have 6 miles in the schedule, but I am not sure I am up for that distance, will do at least 3.

Have a great day team!

Happy Friday Team!

Liz, Happy Birthday!!!! Hope you have a great day. Enjoy!

Margie, I left the bike at the cottage for the summer. Got out for a few rides. I find it hard to balance between getting in enough running training miles along with the cross training.

Lynn, That's quite the multi cross training workout.:thumbsup2

Kim, Congrats on your switch to Mickey.

Vicky, I'm thinking out going to The Room at lunch & getting the running jacket on my list. Hoping they have some fall/ winter stock in.

AFM, Spin tonight, long run tomorrow (16-18) & Sunday will be weather dependant.

Usually the weekend is too busy to post. Have a great one........Sue

Hi team! Happy Friday everyone! Nice sunny weather today but still cool. With the sun out it's a little warmer than it really is.

Sue - Let me know what kind of jacket you get. I'm looking for one as well. I'd ask if you wanted some shopping company but seeing as how it's almost lunch, you've probably already left! Good luck on your LR tomorrow!

Liz - Happy birthday!! Hope you're having a fantastic day :)

Lynn - Walking, pilates and weights! Sounds like you got in a good workout yesterday! Hopefully you're able to get in the 6 today but 3 is pretty good nevertheless. You're still recovering from the DL 1/2 right? Glad to hear your knee is doing better!

Margie - Glad you were able to decide on the furnace. Just in time too as the weather seems to be cooling down earlier than expected. Jell-O and dough - do you let the kids make their own cookies or are you baking for them?

Kim - I'm so excited to hear you're doing the full as well! Yay!! I'm glad to hear that you were able to get a refund on your half registration. That was nice of Disney :) So I guess you'll be getting that gift card and the free day at the parks! I sent you back an email but I can meet you guys downtown where ever you like if my office isn't convenient.

Dave - I wish it would just be cool in the morning and evenings. I'd still like for it to be warm in the afternoons so I can sit in the park during lunch and read a book :) But the cooler weather is great for running - it's nice to be able to breathe and run!

AFM - I got in a quick 30 minute training session at the gym last night. My new physio is switching his schedule around in October and I won't be able to workout with him on Mondays. Fortunately, the receptionist was able to fit me in with the Thursday trainer so I'll be working out with her on Mondays for an hour and my PT on Thursdays for 30 minutes. Last night, we did some core exercises, chin ups and deadlifting. I was talking to her about different life issues and things and it's funny that are situations are quite similar. I'm thinking that she'll be a good fit for me :) And I'm glad that I can still workout with my PT on Thursdays!

Not much planned for the weekend - I might try and do my LR tonight because I have afternoon appointments on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The LR is about 11 miles so I'd have to be out the door by 6AM in order to finish and be ready on time. I'd rather sleep in :)

Anyway have a great weekend everyone! I'll try to check back in :wave2:

Hi Team!

Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife!

Emily~ Congratulations on finishing the DL half and thanks for a great race report!

Margie~ yes, the Warrior Dash is next year, they had a discount if we signed up early. Good choice on the furnace, I like Amana products.

Mary~ Hope you get your yard together soon, I've been there, as we had a new sewer line put in. We could have parked a car in the hole!

Kim~ Glad that you got to switch to the full from the half! We will see you there!

Vicky~ I'm betting you can do the Scotia half in 2:00! Even though it's early, have fun on your long run! Thanks for the hip advice! I'll work on it!

AFM~ No rest for the weary! Busy week, Robert's first week of preschool, took Mom for some surgery to remove some minor skin cancer, and celebrating Liz's birthday today, and my 5K race tomorrow! I'm not off work until Sunday night, and I WILL be taking it easy watching football!

- Mike :cool2:
