Hakuna Matata - Fall-ing into the cool race season!

Hello Team!

Liz - Happy Birthday!

Vicky - I didn't drink a lot after the race and only ate part of a bagel. I think I was too distracted by everything. I realized later in the day that I hadn't drank much, so that could have caused the leg pain. I also visited the massage tent after the race, I don't know if that could have contributed to the pain, I've never gotten a massage before.

Margie - Hope your furnace install goes smoothly. Have fun making cookies today. I'm also making cookies today. I usually make from scratch, but I was lazy and just bought refigerated cookie dough at the store.

Lynn - Can't wait to hear about the Space Coast Race. That race looks like fun, I love the theming.

Mike - Good luck on your 5k!

AFM - Haven't done any workouts this week b/c of my foot. I'm a bit bummed out I can't run and I never thought I'd feel that way. But, I don't want to lose the progress I made this summer. The foot feels a bit better today. Spent the day running errands, doing laundry, and waiting for the cable guy.

Have a good weekend!
Emily

Received a call from Connie this afternoon!
She was in town doing laundry so she has cell phone service.
We did not have a lot of time to talk :rolleyes1
She said to 'Tell Ya All Hi!'

She is enjoying the weather, the mountains, the scenery, and riding the mules!

She said riding the mules was a new experience from riding in the pasture.
And much more enjoyable - she seems to take to naturally, to longer rides, jumping over logs, and furrows. :cutie:

They spent this week setting up camp and getting acclimated to the higher altitude. She is getting in 6-miles
(2-miles round trip times 3 mules) a day taking the mules to the river for water.
Yes, I asked if she was riding them to the river - she said no.

Elk hunting starts tomorrow, but she will not be one of the Big Elk Hunters-her job is to keep the camp safe,
snug, and get in some reading. :goodvibes

Hello, everyone!

Liz-hope you had a great birthday:flower3:

Took a later run this morning and I couldn't believe how many people were out. What a beautiful time of the year to run.

Enjoy your weekend!

Hi guys.

Margie we close on the 13th of Oct and take possession on the 15th.

I just got back from a nice 5 mile training walk. Just 2 more walks till the USAF half. I'm going to be doing the half with a min of training but that bout of PF left me with no other options.

Kimmer how is your foot doing? I'm hoping that the every other day schedule gets me back to near 100% quickly.

Isn't it great that the cooler weather has moved in.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Everyone!!! Sorry I've been MIA.:sad1:

Dave~Glad your PF has been better!

Scott & Lynn~Great job to both of you on your 1/2 marathon!! I know whay it's like to run with a sore knee.:worried: Very Happy for both of you. How'd you do on your walk, Lynn? Did you make it as far as you hoped?

Emily~ Loved the race report! BIG congrats to you and your DH on your 1st 1/2:banana: I'm sorry to hear about your foot and I hope you get better soon. It's really fustrating to accomplish so much and then BOOM next to nothing cause your hurt. :grouphug: I'm a HUGE clutz myself so I know what you mean about tripping over reflector. I tore my ACL running laps in an aroebics class!!

Margie~I LOVE mud and fire... and hay bails and climbing over cars and cargo nets, etc. It makes me feel like I'm 10 years old again:rotfl2: Glad you found a new furnace. It'll be nice when it really gets cold i'm sure.

AFM~Between crazy holiday work hours, my son being sick and feeling under the weather my self I haven't even gotten a workout in since Monday.:sad2: My birthday was great. My DH got me the PERFECT gift. My first real heart rate monitor with a GPS pod so I can track distances when I'm cycling too!! I can't wait to try it out. Gotta work tomorrow then mow the lawn. Sounds easy but it takes me about an hour and 40 min.

Thanks to all for the birthday wishes!!!:wizard: I had fun telling people it was the 10th anniversary of my 21st birthday:thumbsup2

I like that, so this Oct will be the 30th anniversary of my 29th birthday.:cloud9:

I'm heading back to paducah ky for my gig up there, I'm not complaining, I need the bucks and it keeps me off the streets.

Everyone have a super week and hope evreryone that had sore spots are healing up.

Dave:hippie:

HI Everyone!

Margie~ Thanks for the update on Connie and crew!

Dave~ Congrats on the house again! We will be cheering for you in the USAF half!

Emily~ I'm sorry about your foot. I've read that it takes three weeks to lose your fitness level, so don't worry too much about a taking a week off.

Vicky~ Did you make your long run?

AFM~ On Friday I ran four miles and set a new PR of 36:13 with a pace of 8:58.

On Saturday I ran the Irish Jig Jog 5K. It was overcast and a constant sprinkle of rain with a temp of about 70. At the start of the race it started to outright rain and we got soaked. The priest at the church gave a blessing but all I could hear was the Amens and then the gun went off. The first mile was flat on the local streets and a bike path, then it was back out onto the street and an uphill climb that lasted about a third of a mile. Then it flattened out again and we looped around and it was back down the hill. I was flying at this point and hoping that I didn't fall as it was pretty slippery. I did the first mile in 8:11 and at the second I was at 17:12, which is really quick for me. I finished in 26:25 by my watch! It is a new 5K PR for me, with a pace of 8:26! :woohoo: I never thought that I could ever run that fast, especially in the rain. So, thanks for all the cheering on, it must have made the difference for me!

I'm trying to get back to my training sched after a hectic week. Sometimes we all just need to hit the pause button for awhile. I'm riding my bike to work today and trying out my new HRM. Then I'm planning a 3mi w/ my run club tonight. Best wishes to everyone's endevors today!
~Liz

Wow I just feel so behind this morning.

Hope everyone is doing great, looking forward to seeing lots of friends this weekend. This is my first race since goofy so looking forward to some awesome looking bling.

Have a great Monday all

My lower back hurts this morning. I had a great run on Saturday and I took yesterday off. While getting ready this morning, I felt a sharp, short pain when I bent down to get my shoes. It was uncomfortable while running so I finished walking, only. I can now bend down without the sharp pain but my lower back is sore, especially while I'm sitting, not so much while standing. The pain is where the "back meets the butt." Any advice for me?

Next year when taxes come out and we are all broke we need to all go to DisneyWorld and hijack a ferry at Epcot's lake and become pirates, plundering the seas between the parks. We can say "Arrr" and of course "Grrrrr" and drink to much stolen beer and pizza. Ok I've lost it but hey I have a plan.

The princesses can wear flowers in their hair and repel borders with their pointy swords. We can moon the French pavilion and raid the China pavillion and plunder our money back.

I'm sure pirate quuen Sally will want to make a law that all the lady pirates can have all the furry critters they want.

Oh and use a stick massage tool on your lower back.

Good Monday Morning Team!

Mike, Congrats on another great race result!

Vicky, We caved on the weekend. Flying out of Buffalo for January. Just can't beat the price.
I ended up buying the Canada jacket from the Room. I debated between this one & the standard running jacket they sell in a hundred different colours. My main requirement was for it's reflectiveness (is that even a word?). I have a Nike jacket for daytime running but it is black with very little reflection strips on it.
Did you get out for your long run on Friday night?

Margie, We replaced our furnace 2 yrs ago. It was worth every penny. Hope you like yours as well.

Another recommendation for "the stick". Have always been going to buy one and finally did a couple of months ago. Love it.

AFM, Train was running late on Friday & I just made it to spin class in time. Had been in a couple of weeks. It felt good. Made 16 for my long run on Saturday.

Have a great start to the week everyone...........Sue

Happy Monday team! Sunny but cool today - My ITB on my left side is bothering me a bit so I didn't make it out for my 5 miler this morning. I figure the miles at this point aren't going to make a difference but an unhappy ITB will  I'll ask my PT about it tonight but I think he's going to ask me to come in for a treatment.

Sue - Buffalo prices are hard to beat. I'm going by myself so figure the hotel and car parking aren't worth it for me. Reflectiveness should be a word :) I might try and go outlet shopping over Thanksgiving weekend so I'm going to hold out until then for a jacket. I usually go with Nike as well. The RR rainbow jackets seem like they're nice - they always cover your butt.

Dave - You'd make a great pirate! Didn't realize our birthdays were so close together!

Elizabeth - Could be your sciatic or if you feel it even lower in your butt, your piriformis. If it's painful, you could try using a Magicbag on the area, that will help with the pain relief. If it's your piriformis, you can try using a foam roller or even better a tennis ball on the area. It will not be fun though. Otherwise, just be careful of how you move your body over the next few days. I've had that kind of sharp pain before and even something simple like bending over to brush your teeth or loading dishes into the dishwasher can trigger it. Make sure you're bending at the knees and activating your core if you need to bend over.

Kim - When do you leave for USAF? Good luck with the race and safe travels :)

Liz - Biking to work and the 3 mile run sound like a great way to get back into it! How far a bike ride is it to your office? Loved the Zombieland movie!

Mike - Congrats on your 5K PR! That's an awesome time! You keep getting faster and faster all the time! Still aiming for the 2:11 in October or something faster? Hope your hip is doing well!

Margie - I ended up doing my LR on Saturday morning. It made things a little more rushed that day but I still ended up being on time for everything. Glad to hear that the little ones like cooking! You must get to do a lot fun projects with them in the kitchen.

Emily - I always have to force myself to eat and drink enough after a race. I usually don't feel like drinking water especially - not sure why. My PT told me a while ago that if you don't replace the salt, electrolytes, fluid etc. it can lead to delayed muscle cramping.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Emily – the massage probably helped, you may have felt worse without it. If you did not hydrate well after the race, that may have been the cause of your leg pain. We have also found that if we do not keep moving (albeit not very fast), that increases discomfort, so we make it a point to get up and move after a cool soak in the pool or a tub. We are excited about the Space Coast Race also. Take care of that foot!

Margie – Thanks for the update on Connie!

Liz – hope you and your son are feeling better! Nice birthday present!

Mike – Congrats on your PR!

Kim – good luck on the race this weekend!

Dave – you are doing the same race as Kim, aren’t you? Have a great race! And yes, you have lost it!

Hi to everyone else!

AFM – Did not get a long walk in on Friday – Scott called and asked me to bring him an ace bandage from home – they are packing to move the office, and he was doing a lot of stairs and lifting – so skipped the walk until later, then we just did a short one. We did however, do a really nice 12 mile bike ride on Sunday. We loaded up the bikes on the jeep and drove to the bike path. We had a good head wind starting out, which meant a tail wind coming back, or we would have, but the wind quit during our ride back. I am headed out shortly for today’s walk, it is really cool in the mornings – around 40 degrees, but it warms up fairly quickly, so I cannot dawdle too much before getting on the road!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Good Afternoon, Team! :wave2:

Showers with a High of 75°

Dave- Nice just over a month for you and Sally!

Elizabeth- Like Vicky shared - I have problems with both too.
Stretching helps...if I so a lot of vaccuming I have to really stretch
my sciatic or I can not walk the next day.

Kim-Behind - maybe nerves revving up for the race!

Liz-adequate rest & recovery is important!
Have a fun run tonight.

Lynn-WTG nice bike ride!
Hope Scott's knee is doing better today.

Mike-Congratulations on your 5K-
Enjoyed your Race Report Too!

Regina- :cutie: Where are you?

Sue-WTG on getting your Long Run in and making it to Spin Class!
I hope so on the furnace decision-
My frugal nature does not usually replace things that work!

Vicky-WTG getting your Long Run in!
Oh the boys and I do have Fun Projects!

Kim, Sue & Vicky Beautiful fall colors -
Have you guys been here or live near here?

This section of Quebec stretches as far east as Maine's border,
perhaps explaining why some consider the region to resemble
neighboring New England, but with the French influence you’d
expect of the province. Those in the know head here in fall,
a spectacular time to visit local towns like Knowlton and North Hatley.
It's no surprise that the maple leaf is the star of the show here,
and visitors can enjoy a fiery display, particularly from mid-to
late September when the the fall foliage travel season reaches its peak.

AFM::confused3 DD had doctor's appointments today-

Good Afternoon Team!

Elizabeth~ I also have had severe sciatic nerve problems in the past. I herniated two lower discs in my back while walking upstairs at my home. I couldn't walk for several weeks. After much pain medication and physical therapy, the swelling went down and I was up and about. So, please take it easy!

Vicky~ I'm still thinking 2:11 to 2:15 for the Wine and Dine. I figure the crowd will be alot to navigate around.

Sue ~ Great job, doing 16 for your long run! I would collapse!

Dave~ What can I say, other than consider me for your first mate! When we plunder China, I will lead the way on a Segway while wearing a viking helmet and recruiting troops from Norway as we go! I'm mostly Norweigan and Danish, so I'll look right at home! I will, of course, have to stop for a Carlsberg beer along the way.

AFM~ 18 Days until I leave for my favorite escape from reality and the Wine and Dine! I ran 10 miles this morning with a pace of 9:36. I also hit the running store and bought myself some new shoes!

-Mike :cool2:

Man o man you all are really doing some great training, so before I forget and have a chance, good luck for all the coming weekend, the AF marathon would be fun, enjoy.

The Panda Pad, is what I shall call it. Or PP for short.

We got out for a bike ride this evening, the a little work on Lynn's bike.

Off to Austin , tx tomorrow, I hear Lance will be there in Austin so might see if he wants to go for a spin.
