Hakuna Matata - August Days and Nights!!

Well our neighbors up north treated us to a cool breeze when I got out of work. It had to be 15 degrees cooler than this morning and no humidity. Darn I should have waited to walk tonight.

Barely home from work, when Miranda pops in - she convinces me to do 4 miles with her so I have a total of 9 for the day. I guess I'm back on track. We did have a stretch of road (1 mile) that is in the sun all day - of course that's when the breeze died down. But it's an incentive to walk all that faster to get to the shaded area on the next turn. I planned that route when I first started walking in January and made sure I was in the sun for 95% of the time so I wouldn't freeze.

Well off for my 2nd shower of the day and then more Olympic coverage.

Well I went through my clothes and I have 6 pair of jeans that fit wonderfully and 4 pair of Dockers that fit ok. Bad news is I bought a lot of designer pants that are way to big now. The designer stuff was when Dillards had 75% off and 40% off that. Well I need that sale again since I have no cargo pants that fit now and few work (black dress) pants. I have a bunch of never worn 34 waist 30 length that fall off me now. Lots of size large shirts that don't fit now either.

Now I just need to stay this size. Erica is working on getting her sweet self out of her whole wardrobe also.

She and I are doing very well with the healthy eating. For dinner tonight we had green beans and potatoes boiled. A salad of cucumbers and tomatoes and then cantalope. For lunch it was veggie omlet with no cheese or holinday sauce and grilled potatoes with onions. Breakfast of course was cherrios with skim milk and a banana.

We have been eating mostly fresh food that we prepare or frozen veggies. I have been eating my fresh frozen fish and canned tuna. At the mall for lunch I usually get fresh made chicken fajitas at this Bosnian owned Mexican place they put in. If you get it without the cheese and the sour cream it's very good. Grilled veggies and chicken with rice and beans. That has become my regular work lunch.

Connie, wise decision about your surgery.

Denise 9 miles, cool. Miranda will keep you slim and trim.

Sorry to hear about Kathy having knee problems also. It's not good the ortho can't figure it out.

Lynn how is your PF doing, didn't you have a recurring problem with that?

Margie, how is your arch? Is the icing with the frozen bottle working?

Have a restfull evening y'all.

Dave, Awesome job!

Eva, I hope the pain goes away or you can at least figure out a way to stop it from getting worse.

As for me, I ended up getting a good deep tissue massage by random luck. A local spa was having a student day and it was only $20 (for an hour) so I figured why not. ANy way I was a little sore after (which I understand is normal) but she was able to get some knots and strains out.

Tonight, I did a 3 miler in 25 minutes. I don't know if it was the massage or admitting that it was all in my head, but I broke through the 8:30 barrier I've been at for like a week.

Now off to watch gymnastics. I really hope Shawn Johnson medals on beam. (Beam was my favorite event when I was gymnast)

Jennifer

Jennifer, I'll bet it was the massage that made you better. When I had all my neck problems, I would go once a month for a massage. Being in pain day in and day out mad me tired all the time. After I would leave my 1 hour of torture with my MT I'd come home and be ready to clean the house. It always get me full of energy.

I have an appt tomorrow night if she doesn't deliverer baby then she's off till October:scared1: Hope I can survive!

Hi Team!

Connie - :flower3: and Mega PD

:hippie: & Erica and Denise - you guys are doing fantastic in shape, losing pounds, & healthy eating!!! :worship:

I did the negative with the foot problem I started non hunger eating! :scared:

Did a new Post seeking advise on the PF problem. In two week the swelling is reduced, but no real improvement. I do lots of stretching (with the band), icing, purchased the FitFlops and Sas Comfort Sandals. Dusted off and am using the Step Stretch (Pro Stretch).

Connie check out teh post on Roberts site, info there for ya.

Dave, might just order from Running warehouse, price I don't think can be beat, and should have it before DL. Just 2 inches longer should be not a prob.

Better get back to work.

Later kids be good and be safe.

I watched the women's balance beam competition last night. I love how they make the beam look like it's 5 feet wide. I have no sense of balance so there's no way I could even walk across it. Congrats to Shawn Johnson on the gold!! She looked awesome :) I felt badly for the Chinese gymnast who fell off - that looked really painful.

Dave - Congrats to you and Erica on your amazing progress!! Btw, I love the idea of the $4 rolling pin :) I was calling around to get prices on a foam roller and they aren't cheap. I like the stick though - it seems more portable.

Connie - Good luck at the orthopedist

Margie - What are Fitflops?

Denise - WTG on the 9 miles! It's been pretty cool for us in the mornings and the evenings. I think I'm going to have to start wearing capris instead of shorts on my walks.

Good morning guys.

I hate to be a broken record but I'm having an awesome day. Ever have one of those days that you just can't run out of energy? I did a 4 mile walk on the treadmill:

Mile one 15:00 mpm
Mile two 13:20 mpm
Mile three 12:00 mpm
Mile four 10:54 mpm

Then a half hour of weights, some stretching and finally a half hour of pool running with high knee lift. I still feel like I haven't done anything and tons of energy left. Which is good because I have to work today.

I will be the walking pro for the Total Fitness Connection Chain of health clubs, it's just a matter now of figuring out what that will involve. Teaching walking for races is what I'm thinking as well as racing and training with their colors.

Margie hope you get some good advice from your team and the post.

Connie you will do fine and be back in fighting shape soon.

KEWL deal Dave on being the walking pro, I know of none better, now you have to add Guru Panda to the list.

Congrats Dave - does this mean they will cover the cost of race entries? Great job to you and Erica on the diet and exercise - you are an inspiration to us all!

I had to wait until the fog lifted today to go walking - but did get in a decent 6 miles, and it was not too hot - even though I started later.

Yes - I do have occasional PF problems, it mostly does not bother me, only when I try to cut down on the motrin! I still want to get off the motrin all together, it will happen one of these days. I do several different foot exercises, and do alot of stretching to keep it at bay!

Have a great day team!

Hi Everybody!!

I did a really good 10 miler this afternoon! The route that I took involved lots of different sized hills!

Margie, Connie, and Eva pixiedust: and lots of

Hope ya'll have a great night!!

Erica:)

Dave- Congrats on the endorsement deal! I only hope to be successful enough to be a consultant like that some day.

Today, I did 3.25 in just under 27 minutes. My last 5k is Saturday and then I'll shift the focus from speed to distance in preparation for my 10k in October.

Best,
Jennifer

Congratulations :hippie: that endorsement deal! Impressive :goodvibes

Erica, way to go with the mileage girl! :goodvibes

Watching the ladies race walking at the Olympics - probably will not watch right to the end.

Yes, lots of great advise on the PF - feeling very hopeful & positive.
Did a slow 3.3 miles tonight -but at least I got a few miles in.

Thank you all for your thoughts on the knee pain. I think Vicky hit the nail on the head. I looked up that patellofemoral stuff and it seems to be exactly what it is. I read that uneven stress can flair it up and when I run on banked roads thats when it starts to hurt. AND it my knees are bent for a long period of time I have pain and it said that too. Causes included "wide hips" which I do indeed have (I embrace my hips and ghetto booty though :lmao: ) and pronation issues which I also have. It says to avoid downhill running...so maybe my hill work will have to suffer. It says I should build my quads up by doing straight leg lifts and I should not do any exercise with bent knees (like squats, lunges etc). I will get the roller anyways though because it did add that a tight IT band can contribute. Maybe this week of less running will give my knee the break it needs.

ONLY 10 MORE DAYS...I got my Disney Dollars in hand!!

DAVE!! - Congrats on the sponsorship deal!! That is super cool!! It's on honor to have a real pro on our team!!

Erica - Thanks for the pixie dust...send some more my way for luck to get that castle stay!

Connie - Glad to hear you are taking such strides to recover in deciding on surgery. Thats a big decision, however probably the smart one! pixiedust: for you!! BTW...Let Kathy know about the "runners knee" she might want to do some online research.

To anyone I missed - I hope all is well and everyone is having a great day. It'll be beautiful here in Ohio!!

Good morning team.

I'm excited to about getting to work with the Total Fitness Connection. They have brances all over Southern Ky. It will give me a chance to promote efficient walking. I'm not going to call it racewalking since most people have no desire for judged competition but just want to get in better shape and do good in the local walk races.

http://www.totalfitnessconnection.com/

Can't decide what my workout today will be yet. I've been feeling super good and that is usually when I hurt myself so I better go easy today.

Eva, princess, there ain't nothing ghetto about you darlin, your a class act all the way.

Margie now that you know more than you ever wanted to know about PF you can start healing. Going easy for a little bit will make you stronger anyway.

Lynn, I didn't realize you were still having the PF issues yourself. You always seem so strong and positive. You get busy healing to. Make Scott massage your tootsies every day.

Everyone have an awesome day and stay out of trouble.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Dave quit giving Lynn Ideas..... LOL

Nice run this morn, before sunrise, cool and clear.

I think we will be orderoing those sticks today.

Last night our wireless DSL Modem died, so off to Circuit City for a new one. I had a new wireless router I bought a while back to set up for the basement, so it is now up and running.

The point is if you have wireless at home, work or where ever, make sure you set up the security feature. Ya don't want other jumping on your wireless.

Hi everyone! I forgot about the women's racewalking yesterday and just made it back home in time to see the very ending. I'm hoping I'll be able to catch a replay.

Just wondering what other people do when they're running or walking and get a stitch in their side. I usually slow down and it goes away after a few minutes but yesterday I had a really bad one which I couldn't shake. My PT told me about an accupuncture point on your hand that you can squeeze or press into which is suppose to get rid of it but I've never been able to get it to work for me.

Dave - Congrats!!! That sounds like such an awesome opportunity!

Eva - 10 days! I'll bet they're going to fly by.

Margie/Connie - Hope you gals are feeling better!

Looks like it's going to be a nice day here so I'm hoping to get in a quick run after work.

Take care everyone!

Scott, like you mind pampering that wonderfull lady that hangs out with you.

Vicky, I don't get a stitch very often but I've heard that it's a gas bubble in your intestines and if you press firmly on it and massage it that it will go on down.

Jennifer good luck with your training for the 10K. There are not many 10Ks around anymore because the 5K is so much easier to put on. For me a 10K and a half marathon seem to take about as long, they don't but it seems like it. I love the 5K because it's challanging to hold pace for 3 miles but it's over quickly.

I did 4 miles this morning on the hills then played in the pool.

Walk/run/rest/love strong.

Good Morning Team!

I have heard that lifting your arms over your head will help a side stitch, I have never been able to really try it - my problem is that it is harder to raise 2 leashes over your head, and keep dogs in line (I use the extra large retractable leashes, so they are pretty big).

Dave - I cannot say that I still have major problems with PF, most of the time it does not bother me - I will just get an occasional twinge in one of my heels to remind me that it is still lurking. I am beginning to wonder if it is one of those conditions that never really heals, and is just kept under control.

Today it was a knee issue - my knees were really bothering me last night, and again this morning. It is a cross training day - so I just did a loop with the dogs, but it was really slow. I promise to do a Pilates tape later to make up for the lack of walking or bike riding! I may do some more research on runners knees to see if there is more I can do to help them. Of course, losing 10 pounds would do wonders!

As Scott said, our modem died last night, so we spent the evening installing the new one - after all - one cannot survive without internet:rotfl: . Tonights chore will be to mow the lawn - so I guess the basement may have to wait another day! Unless I get the lawn mowed before Scott makes it home, then we can get to the grout in the bar top.

Erica - great job on the milage!

Some of our local races have had the option of 5K or 10K and we have been doing the 10K - but I find I am the only walker in the 10K, and therefore the last person in - which in itself does not bother me - I always worry that I am creating problems with road closures, or volunteers who have to work longer because of me. And, I have to say that a 10K race wears me out as much as a 1/2 marathon. The 5K races are more like a training session, even though I walk 6 miles on a regular basis.

More pixiedust: to all who are injured and in pain!

Have a great day team!
