Hakuna Matata - August Days and Nights!!

Yeah, what great pics mom (Denise) you and dad look great! I am happy with my time....of 31 mins! But the heat was a bit rough. more water next time

Denise and Gecko, Congrats! Sounds like a great event. THat's a big race!

Dave, that skunk story is crazy on so many levels. I'm sure you're winning the battle of the pudge.

Margie, Glad your foot is doing better.

Lynn, I somewhat jealous of that 56 high, but I know come my fall in my Boston I'll be missing the warmth.

As for me, I got in 4.75 miles. A new distance personal record. I was really tempted to go for 5.25 (the way the route was that would have been the next option), but considering how sore I was when I got home it's a good thing I didn't. I did it in just over 41 minutes (just under an 8:40 pace). Not too shabby at all.

Quick question for those of you that have done large races. I'll be running a large race soon, and it is self seeding. My options are in whole minutes (7,8,9, 10, etc.). If I plan to run it at an 8:30ish pace do I seed myself in the 8 minute mile or 9 minute mile?

Hope everyone's enjoying the Olympics!

Jennifer

I'm glad my photo wasn't posted. My newest goal is to not look like something the cat drug in.

I'm awake first this morning and watching one of my all time favorite movies, "Cool Runnings". Awesome movie. The message is spot on. If you have never seen it go rent it and watch it. The title of a song in the movie is one of my mantras to get me through a hard spot in a race or training, "Rise above it". The Jamacian term cool runnings means "Peace be the journey".

In a little less than 6 mo we will be meeting again at the Mouse House to take on the half marathon, the full marathon or both. So to quote from the Jamacian's "Peace be our journey".

Hope:hug: , I'm a dreamer and I'm a dreamer because I believe with all my heart that we can make our dreams come true. Princess, today is that magic first day of the rest of your life, go after your dreams and let nothing hold you back.pirate:

Good morning!

I can't believe how much I miss when I miss a day! Lots of critter talk! I think critters are wonderful, but I like them moving away, except skunks. I prefer seeing the front end! :rotfl:

Great job on the races! Y'all did great!

Lynn, you are doing just great. - I am afraid that it will come to rotator cuff surgery. My doctor was explaining to me what would happen duing rotator cuff surgery BEFORE he scheduled the MRI! Not a good sign. And I have fall races lined up and PAID for. Maybe I will go anyway.

Margie, I hope you see continued improvement. It's no fun to hurt! Have you tried a pro stretch? and rolling your foot on an ice bottle?

Eva, no playing with the cute black kitties with the white stripe. They don't play fair, even when they are little.

Scott and everyone, thanks for the PD and well wishes. I am sure it's working!

Dave, that should joint shot hurts like the dickens. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Plus, the stinkin' shot and prednizone all have the nasty side effect of weight gain. Just what I need.

I had the MRI, but of course, since it was done on Friday there is just more waiting. How lucky is that?? Today, is a rest day. But since my dryer broke, I have to hang out the clothes while I wait for the new washer and dryer I ordered to come in. Arms above the head....not a fun thing.

Morning Team!!!

Connie, I hope your better. I have a quilting friend that had shoulder replacement surgery last week. She's doing great! She tried to convince her Dr to magnatize the shoulder so she could get rid of her pin cushion but he was not hearing it. Did make him laugh tho!

We did 5 miles today. Mark was not in the mood but thankfully I was. It's so helpful to have a partner so that when one of us is "not in the mood" the other lays a bit of a guilt trip on them. There are days that he does the same for me. I know - and I told him this after the walk, that if I didn't have partners to call on - the kids and him - I don't think I would be doing as good as I have this year.

Also my friends here who encourage each other.

A full day of Olympic coverage, my walk is done, I have a few purses to make/finish and then shopping. All's right with the world in New Hampshire.

Have a great day!

Good Morning, :goodvibes

Connie :grouphug: Ouch-that sounds like a nasty shot!!! :laundy: Hanging up clothes sounds like it would be the worse thing you could do to your shoulder! I don't like pain so I probably would have tossed them over the nearest bushes or went to the laundry mat - Woman what were you thinking?

Yes, I do roll my foot on the ice water bottle & stretching with the band, but what is pro stretching?

Today is daughter's 32nd birthday - off to take her to brunch and then do fun things with my little Hagen while they celebrate with dinner and a movie tonight. :upsidedow

Denise thanks for the pics of the racewalking. Did you notice the pic where you could see everyones feet that they are wearing shoes with low heels? A lot of Mizunos, Asics and Nike racing flats.

Connie, we are here for ya babe. Get fixed and get better so we can all go play together.

That pro stretch is what the PT had me stretching on back when I had PF and heel spurs from running and racing in the 120 degree desert heat.

I had a super workout at the gym and the last quarter of my walk and my new goal was 10:00 per mile pace.

Have a great weekend y'all.

Connie, LOL...I have one. Mine is called the dual Step Stretch :upsidedow
www.medi-dyne.com

Will dust it off as I have not been using it. :rolleyes1
I have had it for a long time. Sorry I had not heard them called Pro Stretch. I had to get it because I had so much trouble with my calf muscles tightening up.

Great pictures, Denise...Thanks! It really shows us what they go through to compete.

Margie! Great, you have one! :rotfl2: Dust it off and make it work! :rotfl: We need you well and happy!

Poor Deanna Caster had to drop out at 3 miles with a whacked foot. Training at that level is training on the edge between greatness and injury. Most of us who have trained for a long time have experienced the irony of training to injury just when we thought we were close to a break through in our performance.

In the spirit of that I'm taking a rest day today.

Rain was on order for this weekend, so we made progress on the basement. Did get out for a run this morning cool foggy temps in the low 50s.

WIll try and tile the bar countertops today.

Watched the ladies marathon last night, those gals are amazing, almost as amazing as our gals here,

Veladrome is on the Olympics so will watch during breakfast.

Good morning team.

They finally published the results of the walk race I did last saturday:

Scott, welcome back. Now get busy on that guest room will ya, you only have 9 years before Erica and I start stopping a couple of times a year in our wandering. Now if we could just find some others who would let us drop by we can make a regular route of visits around the country and Canada.

Have a good weekend y'all.

Hi everyone! Just checking in.
I've ended up taking a two day break. Some sort of exhaustion/virus thing seems to have hit me. I've spent the last 48 hours in bed, so no running for me this weekend. Hopefully, I'll be back up and going at least somewhat tomorrow. I have a race on Saturday, so I know this week will be that fine line between not pushing too hard and staying at peak performance.

Dave, after looking at your times, I felt I could have done that race too my 5K was under 40 min last week the only problem is that when Mark and I go downhill we tend to jog as I have a hard time going down with my stride, do you change your stride at all during the downhill portion. It's funny in our normal route we go up hill but never down except a slow descent towards the end and we have been jogging that portion of it.

Good morning team! I'm still slowly getting over my stomach bug, still not 100% but definitely better than last week. I didn't get in any running this weekend because on top of my weak stomach, I managed to pull a calf muscle. Sometimes I get the feeling that maybe someone/something doesn't want me to run *sigh* At least I have my PT appointment tonight, I always look forward to that - sort of :rotfl:

Lynn - Yes, I would be fine with that! Thanks again :goodvibes I think this Disney site should list the most current pins http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/index

Dave - I remember Cool Runnings - that was such a great movie! Wasn't one of the characters named Sanka or some other kind of coffee? I miss John Candy, he was such a great comedian.

Denise - Congrats on your race! Thanks for sharing your photos with us :)

Scott - I watched the women's marathon too! I couldn't believe how much of a lead the Romanian runner had! I was waiting for someone else to try and catch up. I felt badly for Deena Kastor and Paula Radcliffe looked like she was struggling as well :(

Connie - I owe you hours ... lots of hours :rolleyes1  Ouch on the shot! I'm terrified needles :scared:

Jen - I wonder if there's a bug going around. Hope you're feeling better

Eva - Did you pick up a pair of Mizunos? How are they?

Busy...busy....busy.
Haven't had the time to get caught up. Just did a quick skim over the previous posts.
Congrats! on everyone's great race results & training. Sounds like some have little nagging injuries. Take care of yourself. Don't push too hard.

Have a great Monday everyone.....Sue
