Hakuna Matata - August Days and Nights!!

Dave, I know what you mean about 5k v. 10k. This will be my first 10k, but its kind of strange, in the summer it's mostly 5ks and in the fall it's mostly 10ks. :confused3 It'll be my first 10k, but I'm already noticing that after 4 miles I'm either on a runners high thinking I could run a full marathon or I just want to quit and go home. :rotfl2: My unofficial goal, since I have about 6 weeks until it, is to run my first 10k at roughly the same pace as my last 5k. That would be about an 8:20 pace, so about 51-52 minutes.

Eva, 10 days won't be long.

Today's an off day for me, but I plan on driving the route for my race on Saturday.

Best,
Jennifer

Hi Team!

I did watch the end of the Olympics 20K - those ladies were really working, the conditions were awful. It was raining, but they said the humidity was terrible. It was too bad the one that had been in 2nd place for so long got sick and ended up 12th(?) I hope to catch a rerun. :goodvibes

Went to the gym this morning - due to time issues it was a shorter workout but even that is better than none. Then I took Hagen to the library. :goodvibes

:hippie: Did a quick check on the http://www.totalfitnessconnection.com/
And yes, thankfully everyone is sharing lots of helpful information about PF - I haven't been doing the Ibuprofen for swelling. Duh, I was thinking for pain and decided to work through it. Today I am taking Ibuprofen for swelling. :upsidedow

Lynn- I am thinking a personal foot massage would be WAY more Better than this tennis ball session!

Ordered a pair of Earth Shoes to wear in the house/leave by the bed. Am waiting to see the test result and $$ on the orthoics. The positive on that is he said they were guaranteed - money back if I did not like them.

Hi Team mates!

Did a really humid 4 miler. That gives me a total of 28 miles for this week!

Jen: Good luck with your race on Sat.

Margie:

I hope everybody has a good weekend!

Erica:)

Mark and I did our 5 miles on a beautiful crisp NH morning. It was in the 50's --I as usual was in my WISH shirt and capri's, Mark was in his long pants, long sleeve shirt and was tempted to take his gloves. He should have - his hands never warmed up. I on the other hand am like a furnace so when we are "cooling down" I hold his hands and try to bring them back to life.

When we are almost done our 5th mile, we round a corner where we can see a part of the city our first time around it is now dark but by the 2nd time, we see that beautiful sunrise. Crisp air, sunshine, pink sky, it's a great way to start the day.

I did watch part of the 20K racewalk this morning. I had set the DVR. In our paper Joanne Dow has had an ongoing journal from China. Today she wrote about the sorrow her roommate had at not making it into the finals of her sport. She at 44 has had to deal with a great many disappointments and has coached many in high school. Her favorite saying has always been, it's a race, it's not the Olympics to the kids. There she was at the Olympics knowing full well that she would not medal but the joy she expressed at representing the USA was evident. We all here felt that for her. How proud we all were of her. Her main goal now is to be mom to her teenage children. Her son will be leaving for College and is in Track and field - who know where he could go.

I will go home after work and my Massage tonight and watch the rest of the race. I did enjoy seeing them flip those round red and yellow cards when they were getting off stride. I also did see when they slowed up the camera shots that the girl that won was not really in form. But it's to the naked eye so again, the human factor.

Well, time for me to log off the computer and head out. Jennifer, good luck on the race. Hope it's cool for you. Shall I send down some NH air? We even have some leaves turning here. Fall is just around the corner, that much closer to the 1/2.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Well I guess we will be seeing Eva on cable news, "Hot chick from the WISH goes wild at WDW". You are just going to have way to much fun, you really need our supervision to help you stay out of trouble.

Denise, we still have a couple more months of summer before it gets cool in the fall. Although this year we have had unseasonably cool weather, especially in the mornings.

How are you Canadian princesses doing, is it getting cool already up there also?

Margie, you will beat that PF really you will. The nice thing about a fitness forum is anything like that you get, there will be plenty of others who have had it.

Erica is ahead of me in miles, she reminds me of that with sadistic glee whenever possible.

I'm off to the Gym and errands.

Have a great morning y'all.

Walking Panda.:hippie:

Good morning Peeps!

Got my ortho appointment, next Thursday. There is a time crunch with this whole thing.....DH goes on his annual elk hunt next month on the 14th. Then he has back surgery on October 8th. It's kind of a mess. I don't want anything to interfere with his hunt. It's basically his only vacation.

I am going to get some miles in. I didn't do very well last week and I don't know what lies ahead!

Eva, you speedy thing! You are running off to leave the rest of us!

Scott, thanks for the tips!

Okay, y'all take care!

Just stopping by for a quick post... Went for a run last night after work, it was a little hot in certain parts but I found that the route is a lot more shady in the afternoon than it is in the morning. Makes me wonder if I should run at night instead.

The weather looks to be sunny and hot this weekend so I'll have to get out earlier to run.

Dave/Lynn - Thanks for the suggestions on stitches! I didn't have any last night but will give them a try the next time it happens :)

Jen - Good luck with your race this weekend!

Connie - I'll get my hours to you later tonight. I'm hoping to get in a walk tonight.

Take care everyone and have a great weekend :wave2:

I was up early today (7am) to get used to the morning run for tomorrow's race. Unfortunately, I miss timed this and the school traffic was just too much. After almost getting hit by a car for the 4th time I decided to head on home. So, I got in 2 miles in just under 17 minutes.

Thanks for all the good luck wishes already.

Best,
Jennifer

YEAH it's Friday.... hope otp get outta here by noon. I hope.

Connie, does your hubby hunt those little texas elk, ours are bigger here in WY, I should post a pic of my 7X6 to make him green LOL. Taken witrh a handgun.

Eva, Will you be at WDW Sept 6 or 7th????? We will.

Plan is to get up early tomorrow 8-10 mile run, breakfast at home or farmers Mkt, then basement work all day. Grout was done last night, looks good If I do say so myself. Pics to follow after we get it buffed tonight.

Dave, Edrica with sadistic glee, really I never would have thought, LOL KEWL for her. ya gotta love her.
Best to one and all.

Scott, he does hunt the little white-tail deer here in Texas, but he goes off to MY home state to get his elk. He will be outside Montrose, Colorado.

He grew up in Arkansas. Shortly after we were married we went to visit his family there. He was always bragging about the wonderful Ozark Mountains. and how big and wonderul they were, etc. We driving around and came up on this sign that said, "8% grade next 1 miles". He said to me, "Have you ever seen a sign like that?" I replied, "No, I haven't. The signs I have seen usually say 8% grade next 10 miles" He called Bull____t on me, that is until I took him to Colorado! :lmao:

Hi Team!

:hippie: thinking you must have misinterpreted Sweet Erica gleam of excitement & joy...the lady does not have a sadistic bone in her body. (And she is racking up the miles!) :upsidedow

Congratulations Eva :cheer2: :cheer2:

Went to the gym this morning. Keeping up my Team miles with my biking. I am still walking but they will be short easy walks these days until the swelling is completely gone. :headache:

Connie, will PM my miles and times later - still hoping to get in a short walk when the little ones go home :upsidedow

Good Morning Team!

Earth shoes - I wore those in college!!! That was a LONG TIME AGO! I might still have a pair in a box somewhere:rotfl: .

Connie - had to laugh about the Colorado mountains - having grown up in the East, then lived in Wyoming, I can relate! Actually 8% grade is not that steep, I am more used to 10-12% grade. I still have the "20 below zero can be a very comfortable temp to go out and play in" conversation with the disbelieving East coast folks! (Of course, that was from Jackson, would not apply here in Cheyenne where that 20 degrees below zero is accompanied by 50-60 mph winds.) :rotfl2:

It was quite cool here this morning for our walk, again, a beautiful sunrise! I decided to cut the running segments out of my walk to try to save my knees for the upcoming race. Will see later today if that strategy has worked. My knees usually do not bother me too much while walking, it is after I get home, and especially after sitting for awhile, when I get up I cannot walk until I get them "warmed up" again. I was surprised that my speed with only walking was about the same as when I run segments - I was really concentrating on my walking speed today, my splits were basically the same as they have been on my latest walk/runs.

Connie - will try to get totals to you a little later, still have to add them up.

Lynn, he actually apologized to me......I took him over every one of the major passes. We crossed the Continental Divide about 34 times. :lmao: He couldn't believe the 10 and 12% grade signs! AND then, he really couldn't quite get over seeing the "summit" sign and the pavement turned to dirt!!!!

Oh and the temperature thing......People here in Texas just can't believe that it's way colder feeling here than in Colorado. I try and explain that there is this major wind break called "The Rocky Mountains"!

Dave - You have no idea how worked up I get over WDW. I think I DO need supervision...Lapu Lapu and Grey Goose Slushies are calling my name!!

Scott - We leave on the 5th to come home. UNLESS...I can talk Jordan into staying one more night. We are trying to decided against two very cool activities on our last night there and I keep thinking it would be great if we could stay one more night and do both. One of our favorite bands is playing at the HOB on that Thursday, but we had previously planned on Adventurer's Club since this will be the last time I'll ever be able to go. SOOO...moral of the story. Add a night! Really it'll depend on how the flights look to come home (since we fly stand by). I'll let you know!

Connie - Your DH hunts Elk?!? How do they get it back or do they dress it out in the field?? Those have to be HUGE!! Best wishes with the ortho!! We are all keeping you in our thoughts!

Margie - I'm googling Earth Shoes now...you've gotten me interested.

Vicky - Are you concentrating on your breathing? If I get too into my music while I'm running I slip out of my 3:2 breathing pattern and get a side stitch. To get rid of them, I slow my pace and get back in pattern.

Denise - I'm jealous of you guys...NH sounds so beautiful. You should snap some pics of those sunrises for us!! Fall is right around the corner...we'll need pics of the NH fall too please!

Jennifer - Good luck on the race! We all know you'll do fantastic!

To the rest...Happy Saturday! I'm off to work in a bit...TTFN (can you tell I'm anxious for Crystal Palace?) :yay:

Did no walk yesterday since I had an early PT appt but I did bring my girl her Red Sox purse that I made her and a lovely WW Fruit Tart for breakfast. She's made my life a lot better and I appreciate all that she has done for me.

So I think I'll be able to do Friday walks now to add to my miles in the future.

Thursday morning when we were walking, I had to stop about 3/4 of the way through and tie my shoe. When bending and stretching I found that I had a lot more energy after I had done that so today I told Mark we would stop about 1/2 and stretch. It seemed to help my hip - yes it's still a problem, not enough lunges! So if your having a moment and not worried about times, stop now and then to stretch out those problem areas.

We're putting up deck railings this weekend in anticipation of Miranda's (dd) wedding shower coming up. It'll be in the back yard, yes she knows its here but not when. What a pest she is! I'm sure my miles will suffer in the coming 2 months with wedding activities but I do have to maintain a balance in my life.

Well 2nd cup of coffee is waiting. Will check back later.

Good Morning, Team!

Michigan is hot & humid - Thunderstorms forecasted for the day.

Eva, I ordered the Earth shoes from www.sierratradingpost.com - they have not arrived yet. And yes, Lynn I wore them years ago too and had been trying to find them locally and no one knew what I was talking about!

Jennifer, Happy Racing!

Connie,
I will PM miles & times after I finish this - just know my miles are 90% biking! :sad2:

Eva, we get off the Magic on 9/6 and head to WDW staying at AKL. YES we too will have a night at Adventures Club, sad, yes very sad it is closing. Let us know if ya stay and extra night, we would like to say hi.

Got in a 7 mile run this morn, getting ready to hit the Farmers Mkt, for breakfast and see what looks good.

Got the bar tilegrout buffed out and some trim up. Also got one of teh bookcases together, three more to go. That is the afternoon project .

Better get going.

Have a good one.

Denise, a friend of our called he daughter Brizilla. Weddings are big deals these days, Lynn and I got married in a field at the base of the Grand Tetons, BBQ chicken , keg o beer, and pot luck for side dishes.

So, I'm back and cooled down from my race.
It went well, which I totally never anticipated. I just missed my 8 minute mile pace goal.

So here's the report:
This was a really early morning race. I had to get up at 5:30 am; leave the house at 6 am; and be there by 6:30 am for a 7am gun time. Additionally, this was a much larger race than anticipated (over 250 runners in the 5k; for my area that's HUGE). It was the toughest course of any of my races this summer. Lots of moderate hills, some really sharp turns and narrow paths, and relatively rolling. We took off uphill in a light rain (but it was pretty cool any way). I set a new PR for the mile at my 1 mile split (7:15), but I knew that was too good to be true and we then hit the rolling hills and turns. 2nd mile was slower and I hit the 2 mile mark at 15:30 (8:15 minute mile, which is just over my typical 1st mile). Last mile was tough. I was warn out, it was mostly uphill and there was still a pretty thick pack. I hit mile 3 (with about 1/2 of a local varsity cross country team) at 24:20 (8:50 minute mile). I seriously thought I was going to crawl to the finish line, but I made it, still running, at 25:10. So, about 15-30 seconds off of my last race and a new PR, but not quite the 8 minute pace that is my next goal.

So to recap/summarize
I have a new PR of 25:10.
I WON my age group (including beating the girl from the previous race, she ended up not finishing because "the hills were too tough")
And I placed significantly in the top half 100th out of 260.

Best,
Jennifer

Morning Homies.:cloud9:

I had a nice walk this morning 4.5 miles on the hills in 56:13, very pleasent and relaxed pace. Then a good upper body weight workout and finished off with stretching. That gives me 25.5 miles for the week.

Scott, Erica and I had a military wedding in Okinawa. Dress blue uniforms and Chaplin doing the ceremony.

Eva, you go wild girl, you earned a break. We will all be like a bunch of kids running around all over the place come Oct and then again in January.

Denise, according to Hope, if it's cold in January we all get to huddle with you for warmth. You mentioned you were a little furnace so we are depending on you sweety.

Erica had to order new skirts yesterday since her others are to big now. She does all her walking in the new exercise skirts, she is such a girl.

She also ordered a pair of the Brooks Mach Xs. It will be her first time to try the ultra light racing flats. Margie got a pair but the PF showed up before she was able to give them a try. I'm anxious to she how she does in them.

Have a great weekend y'all.

Walk/run/rest/love strong y'all.
