Work is done, packing is done, yeah that's right matching set of Walmart bags, I can go first class! Oh Dark 7am, panda flees north, got my babe, got my coach of all things, manly and we have the Fiddler for adult supervision. Let the whippin begin!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr!!! Past time for talking the talk now it's race walking time!!!

I'm looking for a big half marathon race walking PR on my last race before I turn 60 and enter a new age bracket.

Everyone have an awesome weekend.

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck Dave, Mike & Liz!! Hope you guys have great weather for your races this weekend! Can't wait to hear about them on Monday :)

September

17 - USAF Half Marathon, Dayton, OH - Dave
18 - Warrior Dash, Twin Lakes, WI - Mike & Liz

Vicky:

I made reservations for both Kona and Chez Mickey during the Marathon Weekend. I look forward to meeting everyone! (My Sunday reservation was at 6:15pm so I will try to have that moved to 5:30pm. Otherwise, i will see you around the time you are having dessert. haha)

Hello team!

Dave - Hope you had a great race!

Elizabeth - Sorry to hear about your cousin.

Vicky - We're probably doing DL next year since we want to get a Coast to Coast medal. The weather didn't bother me, except when running into the sun, but it was the same weather I trained in all summer. Glad to hear your knee is feeling better.

Mike - Good luck at your race!

Tandy - PD for your leg!

AFM - Not much going on here. I got a couple easy runs in this week, I felt pretty good. I definitely need to get back to better exercise and eating.

We're trying to decide on a training plan to follow for the WDW half. We're thinking about one of Jeff Galloway's runDisney plans. Has anyone ever used one of them? What did you think of the plan? I find the plans a bit confusing. For example in his time goal plan, he talks about running 1/2 mile for your magic mile instead of a full mile, which doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'm just over-analyzing?

Have a good weekend!

Emily

We are safely back from Dayton. We are happy but very tired. The weekend went amazing. We ran into Disney friends Lily, Karen and Ted at the expo. Never saw them in the race though.

My previous best time for walking a half was 2:45 and this time I did it in 2:41. I had only one day to practice my technique changes before the half so I was pleased with how it went. I will be practicing a lot in the coming weeks with some good training sessions so I hope to see some dramatic improvement. There were some times during the half that everything felt just right and I found the balance and motion clicking perfectly. Turning 60 is better when you are breaking your PRs every week.

I had a scary moment when I got back to the hotel and realized I had left my debit card at a bar in Dayton, they had it waiting for me when I returned for it.

Sally has made the decision to start training and racing again. I signed her up for a 5K a month from now.

:thumbsup2 FANTASTIC! :thumbsup2

Thanks John. I hope to see drmatic improvement as soon as I have had some practice with the technique changes. I want to see a sub 2:30 half marathon walk, hopefully this year.

Happy Monday, everyone,

Emily: I used Galloway's runDisney training schedule as a guide but I didn't follow it exactly.

Looks like my post from last night never showed up. Hmm. :confused3 What it said:

Thanks, everyone, for the supportive posts about my cousin's death.

Vicky:
You have my admiration for staying in the challenge as long as you did. Think those 16-year-olds were planted there so that they wouldn't have to give away a free session? ;)

Can't wait to see race reports from Dave, Mike and Liz. Looks like Dave has already posted. Way to go! Congrats to Sally too for training again.

AFM: I'm headed back to the ortho today in hopes that he'll clear me for running.

Training question: Do you all take a rest day or do you train every day? I've been working out every day and I'm wondering if I should incorporate a rest day. What do you do?

I take Sundays as my rest day since Saturday is my Long Run day. Your body needs to have time to recover, rebuild muscles, etc. So I think they are an important part of your weekly schedule.

I work out 6 days a week with Friday being a light swimming laps day and Sunday being for Rest. My Mon/Wed are strength/core training, and Tue/Thur are my easy run days.

Happy Monday everyone! Work's been busy so I haven't had as much time to post as I would like.

Dave - Congrats on your PB! That's an awesome time! You are one speedy walker! I'm glad that you got your debit card back as well. It's nice to know there are some honest people left in the world :)

Mike - pixiedust: Hope you're feeling better!

Rick - Awesome! Can't wait to see you there!

Elizabeth - My rest days are Tuesdays and Fridays - no running or weights, just streching and walking. And it's a slow walk - I'm not as fast as Dave :) I hadn't thought of them as plants but now that I think of it, I hadn't seen them before and I haven't seen them since LOL

Emily - I use Hal Higdon's plan for marathon and half marathon training. For the half, I follow the intermediate plan because it incorporates speedwork. I don't know much about Galloway's plans except that he does run/walk intervals. Tandy and I saw him running at the marathon this year. It looked like he was doing 3/2 or 5/1 something like that. We kept passing each other during the walk breaks (we were 10/1). There are a couple WISH'ers here who use Galloway's plan - Mousedogmom (Jackie) comes to mind. I know she's been happy with it.

Kim - Ready for Sunday?

Tandy - Hope your classes are going well and your calf is feeling better pixiedust:

AFM - I did the bootcamp again on Saturday. It was a really small turnout. I think most people didn't realize it was a bonus session. I feel like I'm getting better at the crunches and the TRX rows. Wednesday is the last session and then I think they'll start them up again next week but start charging for them.

I did a quick 5 miler on Sunday with the knee feeling so-so. My feet also felt fatigued which didn't help the knee. I think it's the new shoe but I'm not too sure. Or could be the knees causing feet fatigue LOL I'm keeping the mileage light this week in any case. I'll see if I can get my trainer to stretch me out today and Wednesday and hopefully that will help.

I've cleaned up the eating this weekend. I skipped dessert when I had dinner with my mom last night and I skipped some of the junky fast food options at lunch today and stuck with a Subway ham sub. I can't cut the carbs out too much this week because I'm running on Sunday but I'll stick to the whole wheat/whole grain options.

Ok so let's get going on the Biggest Loser Challenge. Weigh-in on Friday and I'll repost the rules.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Today is talk like a pirate day! To all my brother and sister adult athletes, a hearty Arrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

From your Pirate Panda, "Screw the limitations, let's dare to be awesome"!!!

Hi everyone. I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, school's just crazy right now. I'm doing well. PT is good. Walking again!!!!! I hope to catch up with everyone soon.
:)

Good morning all. So sorry I have been MIA again.

Dave that is awesome that Sally is trainning again. ANy hint that she might do the 1/2 in disney :rolleyes1

Vicky: Yup ready to go. So excited to do this race, by the looks of last years time we might be coming in near the back of the pack depending on DD's time. She is going first. No she hasn't trainned.....would anyone in my family actually train for a race:headache: How are you doing? Haven't heard from you in forever  are you ready?

I can't believe how close marathon weekend is!!! So excited. Mike and I will be coming into that race trainned. I am thrilled to finish my races but would really like to hit a time goal which I am hoping for a 2:45 1/2. I know that is super slow compared to all of you but my best time ever is a 3:04.

Hope you are all doing well!!!!!

Kim - Your kids have youth on their side! Even without training, they'll probably bounce right back! That's not to say they shouldn't train ... LOL :cutie: I haven't done as much training as I would have liked so I'm happy to just finish. Did I read the instructions correctly? There are only two ferries - 7:30 and 8AM?

2:45 is not slow at all ... That's how long it took me to finish a half marathon the first first time I RAN it. Yeah, ran  I think walking a race is pretty hard so it would be awesome if you finished under 3:00 :worship: Keep up with your training and I have no doubt you'll make 2:45!

AFM - I did a training session last night. My trainer and I were working around someone else who was using the hamstring curl machine but we couldn't seem to get the timing right because every time we went to use it, she would be on it. So he had me do another exercise that worked the same muscle groups. You kneel on a exercise mat while someone is holding your ankles/feet, then you drop face forward onto the floor into a pushup position, do a pushup and using that momentum and your core and lower body go back into the kneeling position. Crazy! I think I got about 7 in before I had a cramp in my calf  I was like "CRAMP! CRAMP! CRAMP!!" so my trainer had to go and try and massage it better. He also had me sprinting across the gym while I was tethered to him. That was actually easier (relatively speaking) than the pushup/hamstring exercise.

The eating is going well - I ended up going out for dinner last night. I got a grilled salmon salad with the dressing on the side, skipped the appetizers and no pop or drinks.

Hope everyone is having a great day! :wave2:

It was raining here this morning so I went mall walking. I warmed up for a .8 mile lap then walked a 5K in 36:13. It was tough conditions since there are lots of sharp turns and having to weave around the regular walkers.

Kimmer you can do a 2:45, if your ready to do that at Disney then you will do it. Are you doing 2 halfs at Disney?

Wish I was going to the Wine and Dine, we are going to Gatlinburg in November.

Dave:hippie:

I was reading that as well Vicky, that is crazy get on the 8AM Ferry, wait 1.5 hours for the race to start, then I have to wait another hour or so for DD to do her half. WOW that is a bit crazy, and now Mike has found out that he has to work this entire weekend and DS is going away for the weekend so we have no one to drive us (I don't like driving after a race) so not sure what is going to happen, hope DS changes his plans or DD's boyfriend can take us.

Dave I was going to do both 1/2's but when I saw the Donald medal I decided to save my money, don't like it at all. My long term goal is doing Goofy again in 2013 so I am going to do all I can to get my very best time in the relay to start off a year of forward progression to get me some awesome bling in 2013. This was a bad year for me race wise signed up for 2 that I didn't even go to and the one this weekend is in jeopardy. GRRRRRRRR

Good morning team.

I've decided to do something a little different this morning at my group workout. NOT make it a darn race or endurance event like I usually do but make it a brisk but relaxed distance training. I need to recover from the half anyway. I did the fastest half I have ever walked on Saturday, then hard interval training on Monday and a hard race pace 5K on Tuesday, so I'm due an easy workout today and a rest day tomorrow.

Kimmer that's a bummer, if I was closer I would be glad to escort a couple of princesses on their race.

Vicky are you still doing the Goofy this January?

Lynn, is Scott driving you crazy now that he is retired and under foot all the time?

Eva, are you still doing the Goofy? How is your training going?

Mike, how far are you from Chi Town?

Have a super wednesday Y'all.
